The Mackie MR624 6.5" Powered Studio Monitor Singleis a powered 6.5" 2-way reference speaker that is designed for mixing and monitoring in your home or project studio. It features a logarithmic waveguide system that aims to minimize reflections and diffractions for a wider sweet spot, plus a custom-tuned rear port to help ensure an even bass response.

The MR624 is equipped with matched amps and drivers for an optimized 65W Class-AB biamplified system. The speakers can also be optimized to your mixing environment with the adjustable acoustic space filters designed to maintain a flat response in typical placement configurations. Additionally, a high-frequency filter applies a boost or cut to compensate for particularly bright- or dull-sounding rooms.

The MR624 has been designed with flexibility in mind, featuring XLR, TRS, and RCA monitor inputs. The speaker has been housed in an all-wood cabinet that has been treated with acoustic absorption material for a tighter response. Additionally, the MRS10 studio subwoofer can be added for a more powerful, extended low end.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is that the price of the pair?

A: No, the Yamaha HS8 are priced per speaker. Most studio monitors are priced per speaker, unlike home entertainment speakers which are typically priced per pair.

Q: 2. Is a big difference between these and mr5 mk3 ? How about power consumption ?

A: The power consumption on the MR524 and MR5mkiii during loud music playback is the same; 90 watts. High's and low's are better reproduced over the MR524 nonetheless.

Q: 3. Does the Yamaha HS8 need to be connected via XLR?

A: No. In addition to the XLR connector, the HS8 also has a balanced 1/4" input.

Q: 4. Ok, silly question...where to I connect my red and black speaker wire from my pre-amp?

A: There is an RCA input connection on the back of each of these speakers for an unbalanced audio signal. If you have speaker cables, which carry audio as well as power, then you would require passive speakers; such as two of the Alesis Elevate 6 Passive - 6 Desktop Studio Monitor, (B&H # ALELEVATE6PA.)

Q: 5. Do these need to be powered down when not in use?

A: Yes. That would be a best practice.

Q: 6. Is it 240-110V?

A: No, it is not switchable between 110/240v. You will need a converter to use these overseas.

Q: 7. is the price tag on it for the pair speakers or just single?

A: This product listing is for a single monitor.

Q: 8. Are you able to wall mount them?

A: This Yamaha wall mount would hold them https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/219160-REG/Yamaha_BWS20_190_BWS20_190_Wall_Mounts.html

Q: 9. I just wanna know if the U$D199 for one speaker or two?

A: The Yamaha HS5 powered studio monitor currently sells for $199.99 USD each. A pair of them would currently cost $399.98 USD.

Q: 10. Can any subwoofer be use with these monitors or only the HS8S?

A: The HS8S and HS5 integrate together very well; but most active subwoofers may be used with the Yamaha HS5 monitor speaker.

[65 W] For that price you can't get a better deal if you are looking for precise flat sound.

[65 W] I purchased a pair for mixing. These are very clear and precise. I look forward to using these more, as I have only had them a couple of weeks.

[17.5 lb] I'm very happy with these monitors. They seem well built and have good clarity. I use them for video production some am mostly mixing dialogue or dialogue over music.

[65 W] I came from Mackie MR5 mk1's that I owned for many many years. These have a deeper, tighter bass. I like the high end through these too. It's not brash. Sound stage is pretty wide.

I briefly owned Kali LP6 but returned them due to the noisey Class D amps that sounded like a waterfall (white noise) in a quieter room from 2-3 feet away.

These Mackies have a Class A/B amp design that is much much quieter. Plus the Mackies just sound tighter to my ears. Esp in the low end. More mid definition too compared to the Kali monitors. The enclosure of the Kalis was a flexy cheap plastic. These Mackies are a lot more sturdy.

I'm happy. I would probably give these a 4.5/5 if I could. And the LP6 a 3.

[65 W] For video you'd be hard pressed to have better sound for two or more times the price. I only sit arm's length away from them, so they're quite punchy without being overwhelming. Great stereo field. Quite revealing too.

[65 W] Coming from MR5's Mk1 these are a great upgrade. Also more stylish for our studio than the JBL's or others that have that lacquer-finish plastic all over it.

[65 W] I bought these for a small office/edit bay. I wanted something I could use without a subwoofer. My previous speakers were little 5 models that lacked low end, resulting in mixes that were a little bass-heavy. These offer a little more low end without being boomy or artificial sounding. These are a great value for a nearfield monitoring system

[65 W] These Mackie speakers are really surprisingly good, especially for the price. They do take more power to drive than the Tannoy Reveal 501A's they replaced, but that's no big deal. It took a little bit of time to find just the right spot and angle for them on my desk, but now I'm treated to nice, deep, tight bass unlike anything I expected. These are rated to 50Hz and I can tell that's not an over exaggeration. The highs are much less sibilant and noisy than the previous Tannoy speakers I had. I listen to a lot of EDM, Rock, and Metal so mids and lows are critical. I do have a small subwoofer which fills out the sound just a little bit, but honestly these don't need it.

I compared these to the MRMK3 speakers, and these really improve the clarity and accuracy of the music. I also cross-shopped PreSonus, Sterling Audio, KRK, Focal, Yamaha, and Pioneer. All the brands have their pluses and minuses, so it really comes down to personal preference.

For what it's worth, I didn't find the Mackie MR524's to be quite as clear or bright as the PreSonus Eris E5's, but ultimately the lack of mid-bass response from the PreSonus speakers was the deciding factor. The PreSonus would be fantastic if you're primarily listening to classical or vocal music, but for everything else I think Mackie has them beat hands-down for the same price.

I drive the Mackie's from my computer via Optical S/PDIF to a Yamaha RX-V1 receiver. I then pass the unbalanced output to a CleanBox Pro for balancing and run XLR to the speakers themselves. I keep volume on all devices around 50-60%. I have no doubt I could blast these to ear-deafening levels but I actually like my neighbors.
