Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is the ON/off indicator a switch or only an indicator?

A: This BOYA Desktop Cardioid Gooseneck Microphone has both an LED indicator and a control button, which is a mute switch (short press) and on/off button (long press).

Q: 2. What is the best mic stand adaptor / gooseneck adaptor combination for mounting this mic or a similar gooseneck mic on a stand? The mic will be used for a church cantor and announcements. Plus, sometimes a small choir will sing around this mic. Maybe we should use a small body condenser that comes with a stand adaptor. Ideas?

A: This mic may be mounted to a desk/table stand or to a permanent flange-type mount typically used on a podium: Shure - Centraverse Desktop Base (Black) - B&H# SHCVDB ----------- Shure - A400SM - Recessed Shock Mount for Gooseneck Mics - B&H# SHA400SM

Q: 3. Does it have an off/on or mute button?

A: Yes - There is a "touchpad" switch on the microphone. By default the mic ships in an "always hot" state, and pressing the button momentarily "mutes". As outlined in the user manual, I have switched these to "touch-on" - "touch-off". Simple process in the bottom panel of the mic. I have 12 of these and it's a 2 minute process to convert each one by flipping a DIP switch on the board in the bottom stand.

Q: 4. what comes in the box? Only the mic or something else too?

A: Comes with his plastic box, wind filter and mic clip.

Q: 5. How heavy is the base? Will it stay in place even if the podium is slightly tilted?

A: Not very heavy at all. The overall weight of the entire microphone is less than 18 ounces. The chances of the microphone moving out of place if the podium is tilted is extremely high, unless the MX412DC is fastened or secured with velcro.

Q: 6. I want to find a way to run Shure MX412's wirelessly using my existing Sennheiser G3 wireless belt pack transmitter combos. I tried to use Whirlwind 4x Phantom Power blocks but they introduced too much line noise to be useful. Any suggestion?

A: I would consider getting the Sennheiser SKP 300 G3 transmitter which will provide 48 volts of phantom power for your MX412. This way you will not be introducing additional electronics to your audio chain, potentially causing line noise.

Q: 7. Does the MX412 DS have a mute switch and is it easily operable? If not which desktop model has the mute switch?

A: The Shure MX412D/S does have a programmable switch for mute functionality. Factory set to be a momentary switch, can be reprogrammed via dip switches in the unit to toggle on off as well as normally on or normally off. Switch diagram is included with the mic.

Q: 8. Does it have an off,on switch?

A: no. Programmable on/off switch and LED on/off indicator (MX412D/MX418D)

Q: 9. Does this microphone come with the windscreen?

A: The Shure MX410LPDF/C 10" Cardioid Dualflex Gooseneck Microphone with Bi-Color Status Indicator does not come with a windscreen. BH# SHRK412WS would be recommended.

Q: 10. Do I have to use Shure's Centraverse Desktop Base? Or could I just plug directly into an XLR-F panel mount on a table?

A: The CVG18 can be used with any XLR panel, so long as you have a means to provide phantom power.

[Solid-State] We have a terribly bright and reflective chapel sanctuary, along with a pulpit dangerously near (what I think) is an improperly angled FOH. After switching from a boundary mic (what was left by the previous 'engineer', also a Shure) to this one, 99% of my podium-narrator-speaker-headaches are vaporized. Even with choir monitors on full, I couldn't get this mic to feedback - cracked it up, wouldn't break. The only thing I have to worry about now is just how loud do I really want to make my presenter. I haven't side-by-side this with anything in its class, but what I want it to do and how well it does it, I don't see a need to.

[Solid-State] We're using this mic in a wireless unit on a podium in our church. The sound quality is crisp, articulate and clean - it's the best mic we have.

[End Address] This microphone now makes our worship services sound so much clearer. Great clarity for the whole congregation to hear. We are very pleased with MX412DC Desktop Microphone.

[Cardioid] Works perfectly, the LED ring is very helpful for speakers to know when the mic is on or off.
