Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is the MX412DC a push to talk unit?

A: Yes, the desk mount version of this gooseneck mic does havea push-to-talk button on the base.

Q: 2. Does it have an off/on or mute button?

A: Yes - There is a "touchpad" switch on the microphone. By default the mic ships in an "always hot" state, and pressing the button momentarily "mutes". As outlined in the user manual, I have switched these to "touch-on" - "touch-off". Simple process in the bottom panel of the mic. I have 12 of these and it's a 2 minute process to convert each one by flipping a DIP switch on the board in the bottom stand.

Q: 3. Hi, Could you please confirm if this list includes de base stand for the mic? I saw at the review section that its doesnt includes base. Thanks

A: The desktop base is integrated into this microphone.

Q: 4. How heavy is the base? Will it stay in place even if the podium is slightly tilted?

A: Not very heavy at all. The overall weight of the entire microphone is less than 18 ounces. The chances of the microphone moving out of place if the podium is tilted is extremely high, unless the MX412DC is fastened or secured with velcro.

Q: 5. Can this mic be used without phantom power?

A: The Shure CVG18-B/C is an Electret condenser microphone. This mic will require phantom power in order to operate.

Q: 6. Can I connect this lavalier directly to a Zoom H5?

A: The Shure MX184 is able to connect directly to one of the 2 available XLR mic inputs on the recorder. It will also receive its power from the recorder.

Q: 7. which Mic is better for talk, the shure beta87a or the shure Beta58A?

A: This is very dependent on the person who will be using it and also the area you will be using it in. Female vocals will sound very different than male vocals. Regardless on the frequency response alone, the Beta87a being a condenser it will give you much more clarity and more definition for speech. where the Beta58a will give you a more well rounded sound and will be better in louder environments. It very much depends on who and where you will be using these microphones.

Q: 8. How long is the cable?

A: The attached cable on the MX184 microphone is approximately 4-feet long.

Q: 9. does this have a mute and led indicator for the flange mount option?

A: Unfortunately it does not have these features. The MX412S/C has an LED and the MX418S/C has both a mute and LED.

Q: 10. may be dumb question but will this stand on a desk without falling over or does it need mounted?

A: The desktop stand in this product should hold up the mic properly without falling.

[Mono] This foam screen really addressed the problem for us, we are actually using it with Audio Technica mic which was really sensitive to plosives but with this screen the issue is solved. You can blow directly in to the mic and no longer get a nasty pop.

[End Address] Outstanding clarity on vocals. Fantastic resistance to proximity effect. Need to mic an acoustic? Slap it right up there and go. This mic is great for male and female vocals, along with various sundry uses as well. If you need to upgrade your SM series mic to something better, this is your choice. This is my GO TO vocal mic.

[Black] This lectern mic has exactly the features we were looking for at our church: thin neck, solid base, flexible neck parts, and on/off button with status light. The sound quality and the sensitivity are very good at a reasonable price. Success!

[End Address] We have a terribly bright and reflective chapel sanctuary, along with a pulpit dangerously near (what I think) is an improperly angled FOH. After switching from a boundary mic (what was left by the previous 'engineer', also a Shure) to this one, 99% of my podium-narrator-speaker-headaches are vaporized. Even with choir monitors on full, I couldn't get this mic to feedback - cracked it up, wouldn't break. The only thing I have to worry about now is just how loud do I really want to make my presenter. I haven't side-by-side this with anything in its class, but what I want it to do and how well it does it, I don't see a need to.

[Mono] We ordered these to replace some SM58. Love the tone and response.

[Supercardioid] We use this in our high-ceiling, 100 year-old church/worship hall that can be a difficult room to obtain optimal sound reinforcement. This mic replaced our much older Shure model that was only about 12 and the results are night and day. The 18 Shure really grabs the voice and channels it better than I expected. One of the reasons is that the extra length puts the mic closer to the reader's mouth (It also comes with a mounting base that you can drill/bolt onto a podium at the ideal spot for you). It is an excellent choice for having various readers each church mass, because there's no need to constantly adjust the sound. Even when readers forget to move the mic in the direction of their mouth (for excessively tall or short people) the mic still picks up beautifully. On that topic, when moving the mic, there is no noise picked up, so you can position it silently with no problem and without the need to mute the channel. Our sound system consists of a pair QSC KW 122s and now a 2nd pair of QSC K10's, routed through a DBX 231 eq and a Mackie ProFX 12 mixer with phantom power, which this mic requires. Pretty basic stuff, but highly effective at pushing sound for about 125-150 people. The reason I mention our system is that this mic will surely perform differently in different rooms. The only drawback is that depending on your speaker placement and what other mics you are using in the room (lavalieres for example), you may experience some feedback at higher levels because it really picks up a lot. So, with some care and consideration about such things, you can try to reduce or eliminate the other channels/sound going into this mic and creating a feedback loop. This mic's technology seems to be far superior to the older model, so it does a cleaner job of grabbing what you want and not what you don't. I highly recommend it, especially for churches or podium situations.

[0.895 lb] Works perfectly, the LED ring is very helpful for speakers to know when the mic is on or off.
