Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. My 200mm 645z lens operates flawlessly but I notice that in manual focus, the focus ring is hardly damped at all. Quite, almost too easy to turn. Do any owners notice the same?

A: We have not had any issues we are aware of from customers with manual focus on that lens. If you do feel you might have an issue you need to contact direct our customer service department.

Q: 2. is this eyepiece good for long range birdwatching?

A: I use mine for astronomy with telescopes. But I think 20mm is going to be too wide for most long range birdwatching. For birdwatching I use a Swarovski 95mm spotting scope which has magnifications of 30x - 70x. This 20mm eyepiece only has a magnification of 31x with a 100mm scope. So I'd recommend a much shorter focal-length eyepiece than 20mm. Shorter focal-length eyepieces give greater magnification. So a 10mm might be better for long-range birdwatching. These eyepieces are very nice on telescopes. I assume they're very nice on spotting scopes too.

Q: 3. Works with film 645 bodies? 645N and 645NII?

A: The Pentax smc FA 45mm f/2.8 Lens is compatible with the Pentax 645N and 645N II Medium Format SLR Autofocus Cameras.

Q: 4. Will this work with my old Pentax 500 spotting scope? I currently am using a Meade MA25mm eyepiece.

A: The Pentax SMC XW 10mm Eyepiece (1.25") BH #PEEP10X • MFR #70514 will work with your Pentax 500 spotting scope.

Q: 5. Can this lens be used with the Pentax 645nII (the 120 film camera)?

A: Yes, the Pentax smc FA 645 200mm f/4 IF Lens is compatible with the Pentax 645NII.

Q: 6. Hi there, I am new to Medium Format Cameras, does this lens have Vibration Control?

A: Shake reduction built into the lens is already old and redundant technology. The newest technology is Pentax's shake reduction done on the sensor instead of the lens. Already rolled out on models like the K1 and KP. Let's hope they include it into the next version of 645.

Q: 7. Will it work with Pentax PF-65 ED II (straight body) ?

A: Yes, it will

Q: 8. Is this eyepiece threaded at 42mm on the top to attach cameras like the XW eyepieces are?

A: The Pentax SMC 8-24mm Zoom Eyepiece (1.25") BH #PEEP2060X • MFR #70509 does no have any threads for additional add on.

Q: 9. can it be used with the 645Z body?

A: Yes, this lens will work on the 645z body

Q: 10. I want to know the diameter of this lens? For example Canon 200 L lens has a diameter of 72mm. How much is for this lens?

A: The diameter of this lens is 74.5mm.

[77 mm] I bought this eyepiece for my Pentax 65ED II spotting scope. I chose this particular eyepiece after doing a great deal of research and reading numerous reviews. It certainly doesn't disappoint. The images are bright, sharp, color neutral and full of contrast. I am an avid nature watcher and Pentax has gone over and beyond, in my opinion, with this XW eyepiece.

[Glass] Surprisingly heavy duty plate that is very simple to connect. I haven't had any loosening or alignment issues across multiple photo outings. I was also very happy to see that the plate is made in the USA.

I'm not enthusiastic about the mounting screw requiring an allen wrench, especially since the plate covers the 67's battery door, but I won't fault that. I prefer the smaller form factor over something bulkier, which a thumbscrew would require.

[77 mm] The adapter works great. It's incredible to achieve the medium format look on a full frame camera.

[0.26 lb] Given the option, I would probably select this version over the equally functional and well constructed RRS offering, simply because the mounting surface is larger. Otherwise, no preference.

[82A] On my Sigma FP this adapter allows me to get close to the medium format look, in CDNG raw video. Absolutely stunning visually.

[82A] This twist-up eyecup design is the best I've used. The optics are excellent as expected.

[82A] This eyepiece is used on a 65mm Pentax spotting scope and the 39X power lets me get a much better view of those out of range shorebirds using the SCM WX14mm which =s 27X. The wide angle helps greatly at that distance.

[Glass] Hello, this is my follow up review. After having this eyepiece for a while I have had the chance to compare it back to back with my televise Delites. I like the twist up cap better on the Pentax, I enjoy the larger glass area (afoot) and it has its own distinct look. I recommend this highly and I did decide to purchase the venerable 10 mm.

[82A] I couldn't find fault with this eyepiece, however I bought it for terrestial river viewing. I already had the Pentax XW20 eyepiece and was hoping to be able to see greater detail with the XW14 but that was not the case. To me it seems about the same as the XW20 in resolving fine detail. It will probably get very little use because of the wider field of view of the XW20.
