Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does this pass HDMI CEC commands from the input to all outputs?

A: Not that we are aware of. It is not listed as supported in the spec sheet or in the user manual.

Q: 2. I need to de-embed 4K HDMI and feed the audio to an ADAT input on a Scarlet 18i20 audio interface. Is the optical output compatible with ADAT or is it just the consumer version for A/V receivers?

A: The Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 18x20 USB Audio Interface (3rd Generation) does have optical inputs. While we are not aware of a specific test between the two products, we believe it should be possible to feed the Atlona in to the Scarlett Product.

Q: 3. Can it emulate 1080p at 60fps?

A: Yes, the NewerTech HDMI Headless 4K Display Emulator for Remote Access BH #NETADP4KHEAD supports up to 4096 x 2160 4K Resolution. It will be able to emulate 1080p @ 60hz.

Q: 4. How long does it take to record EDID? I only get double green flash, no rapid flashing as stated in directions, only two green flashes no matter what I do. I've done this for a few minutes and nothing happens. I m recording edid for my TV. Does it matter what HDMI jack it's put into?

A: A few seconds. The double flash is indicating EDID acquisition. Double check all of your connections.

Q: 5. Can I use this to connect and switch between Direct TV HDMI cable and Apple HDMI cable for Netflix? Not sure I am asking question correctly. Currently if I want to watch Netflix I have to remove the DirectTV HDMI cable from the back of my TV and then connect the Apple HDMI cable to the TV. I want to be able to switch between both without having to change cables.

A: This product will not work for you. This is a Splitter, which takes a single input and splits it to 4 outputs. What you need is a Switcher, a product that gives you multiple inputs to a single output. Comprehensive makes 4k HDMI 3x1 and 5x1 Switchers with HDCP 2.2, they are B&H Numbers COCSWHD301K & COCSWHD501K. You will want to look in to these items instead.

Q: 6. Is this monitor compatible with the new Mac Studio from Apple?

A: You can use this monitor with a Mac Studio.

Q: 7. Do you need two to use? Or do you just use another laptop or computer? I still don’t really understand how it works exactly... sorry.

A: You will only need one of the NewerTech HDMI Headless 4K Display Emulator for Remote Access. The purpose of this item is to access your system remotely without having it connected to a monitor. So you connect the NewerTech HDMI Headless 4K Display Emulator for Remote Access to the HDMI port of the system you want to access remotely. The NewerTech HDMI Headless 4K Display Emulator for Remote Access will trick the system in thinking it has a monitor connected to it.

Q: 8. I have a DVI-D PC monitor. When I use an HDMI to DVI cable, audio is not passed because the monitor's EDID tells the device it does not support audio. Can I use this to force audio to my monitor? Maybe spoof the input device to think its a regular HDMI monitor so it passes audio. I need to pass audio because I'd like to use an HDMI audio extractor in between.

A: As others have said, DVI doesn't support audio output. This will not work for you unfortunately.

Q: 9. Does this product offer opto-isolation from input to output?

A: Unfortunately Atlona does not disclose this information, nor mention it in their product specifications.

Q: 10. Does this support Atmos?

A: Yes, the Avenview 1x4 HDMI True 4K60 Splitter with EDID supports Dolby Atmos.

[1.28 lb] Cleaned up multiple EDID problems between an UHD disk player and a 4K Sony projector.  The Atlona help line was fantastic.  The technician could be reached instantly, was extremely knowledgeable and very gracious.  This is a great product from a company offering world class technical guidance.

[YUV, RGB] I needed to run the Xfinity HDMI out to two different TVs. This worked just fine out of the box. Small and compact. I used the included mounting ears to fasten it in place.

[9.5 oz / 270 g] This worked fine for end devices that don't report audio to the source. Be aware that using active cables and this device on a MAC, the mac cannot supply enough power for both. In active cable and this device is no problem

[24-Bit] This came in fairly minimal packaging. All I had to do was open the cardboard box and pick it out.

I plugged it in between my television and the computer and let it record the EDID, then I plugged it between the computer and the capture card. The Blackmagic capture card which had stymied so many of my attempts to capture a 1080p signal started working the way I wanted it to after inserting this EDID emulator into the chain.

The rotary dial, by the way, was fairly resistant to accidental nudges. IT took a bit of effort to get the dial to change its position.

[6.5 W] Although you can buy other 4k HDBaseT extenders for less money, the Atlona units come with cable testing and firmware upgrade software which made the difference for me. The unit also works flawlessly for my 50ft run.
