I emailed Kopul customer support, and they shared the real answer: First, make sure the Mutemate is set to Dynamic mic setting. The Mutemate passes phantom power for condenser mics, so when switching to dynamic from condenser, you need to hold the button down for approx. 30 seconds to dissipate the phantom power stored in unit. Otherwise you will get the popping sound in the first initial uses. So make sure you are set to dynamic, and hold the button down for 30 seconds. This should alleviate any popping. I have a dynamic mic, but I had initially tried this on Condenser mode. That lingering power needed to dissipate before this could work as intended.
