Styled in a producer finish by the manufacturer, the Genelec 1032C SAM Studio Monitor is designed for high-powered, near-field monitoring in pro-audio scenarios such as music studios, mobile vans, surround sound systems, multimedia installations, and TV broadcast facilities. The speaker consists of a 10" bass woofer, a 1" metal dome tweeter, an active crossover, and a directivity control waveguide to balance the frequency spectrum.

The monitor can accept both analog and digital AES/EBU signals from separate XLR jacks, and automatically detect what kind of audio is being fed into the monitor. To coordinate multiple 1032Cs, you can use Genelec’s GLM software to tune your monitor to your room, daisy-chain monitors, override automatic signal-source selection, and more. Routing is accomplished by means of a few Cat5 cables and a GLM adapter, which are available separately. You’ll note that RJ45 ports are provided for GLM connectivity. An XLR output jack is on hand for sending identical copies of incoming AES/EBU signals to other monitors.

The 1032C provides a 10" bass woofer amplified by 200W of short-term power, and can play down to 40 Hz. The 1" metal dome tweeter can play up to 23 kHz, is amplified by 150W of short-term power, and utilizes the directivity control waveguide to achieve phase and delay uniformity. Both the woofer and tweeter are magnetically shielded. The monitor provides you with multiple controls to optimize system performance for your particular listening environment. These controls are enumerated in the features section.

GLM, a proprietary software available free from Genelec, allows you to coordinate, equalize, and otherwise manage your 1032C to its fullest potential.

The 1032C's audio inputs are designed to integrate easily into all professional environments, supporting balanced, line-level analog and AES/EBU-format digital signal. Analog input is selected when the AES/EBU signal input is not connected. The AES/EBU format digital audio input is selected automatically when a valid digital audio signal is present. Automatic audio signal input selection can be overridden, however, when the 8341A is controlled by a GLM network, enabling flexible selection of either input. On the output side, an XLR connecter provides an unaltered copy of the incoming AES/EBU signal, enabling you to daisy chain up to four monitors.

The 1032C has a proprietary directivity-control waveguide which shapes the emitted wavefront in a controlled manner, thus allowing you to tailor the dispersion pattern predictably. This DCW technology minimizes early reflections, providing a wide yet controlled listening area for accurate playback both on- and off-axis.

SAM technology can improve the reliability and accuracy of these monitors by providing several parametric notch and shelving filters that can be tuned automatically in concert with the GLM software, compensating for colorations generated by room acoustics. This enables SAM monitors to sound neutral and achieve accurate imaging in most acoustic environments.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Do I need to purchase SAM tech separately or it will be provided with speakers if I buy pair?

A: Tom from 2018 is correct that the software is free, but that doesn't answer the actual question. Yes, you need to purchase the GLM kit. No, it's not provided with the speakers. Without the hardware in the GLM kit, you can't do anything with the free software or use any of the SAM features.

Q: 2. What is the best way to attach this to my MBP? I'm doing video editing and I don't have any Mixers / USB audio interface stuff. I just have the 1/8 inch headphone jack....

A: You can use a cable to connect from the headphone jack in your Mac Book Pro to the back of this monitor. However your audio will sound nicer if you intergrade a audio interface to the setup. The cable you will need to connect two of the Genelecs to the computer is in the link bellow. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1102499-REG/hosa_technology_hmx_010y_1_8_stereo_mini_to.html

Q: 3. Can these monitors be paired with a non-Genelec subwoofer without trouble?

A: Yes, you can pair a non-Genelec subwoofer with the 8020D monitors.

Q: 4. Can the ISS be disabled? I see that there's a DIP switch for "ISS" on the back, so I assume that's for enabling/disabling ISS, but I'd like confirmation. ISS is not a feature I need or want. Thanks!

A: An ‘ISS Disable’ switch is located on each product’s back plate next to the other room response controls. First, when the mains power switch of the loudspeaker is set to “ON”, the ISS™ auto-start function (low-power sleep state on/off) of the loudspeaker is active. If this function is not desired, the ISS™ function can be disabled by setting the “ISS Disable” switch on the back panel to “ON” position. In this mode, the monitor is only powered on and off using the mains power switch. I hope this answers your question. Thanks.

Q: 5. What's the height of this product? How much does it raise the speakers?

A: Total height of the table stand is not offered unfortunately, however when mounted to a 6010 or 8010 speaker will raise the speaker 96mm (3.75 ) from the surface.

Q: 6. Will these do OK at a distance of 3 to 4 meters from the speakers? Want to use it in a medium size bedroom.

A: Thanks. That page doesn’t speak about the distance between speakers and listener — just between speakers and walls, and angles among all the three. For this price the info should be more accurate: at what distance from the speakers does the quality fall off? There are reviewers who say they attach these speakers to TVs in their living rooms. Are they in such tiny rooms that their TV is 2 meters away from them? I doubt it. This is the info I need: would 4 meters be too much for these speakers costing thousands? 5 meters? What’s the number?

Q: 7. $2250.00, is that the price of the pair or a single?

A: That is the price of one single 8331 SAM studio monitor. Please discuss pricing with your B&H sales person. Thank you.

Q: 8. This item shows up when filtering for AES inputs. But that seems incorrect. Does it have AES?

A: This unit does not include AES inputs. AES inputs are available on the 8330 and larger.

Q: 9. DOES IT HAS ACCURATE SOUNDING

A: Yes. The 8331A SAM studio monitor is designed for professional monitoring applications that require precision and accuracy. Using Genelec's SAM technology, Smart Active Monitors have several parametric notch and shelving filters that can be tuned automatically using the Genelec Loudspeaker Manager (GLM) software to exactly compensate for colorations generated by room acoustics. This enables SAM monitors to sound neutral and achieve accurate stereo imaging in all acoustical environments.

Q: 10. Which Genelec model is suitable for studios of size 50X23X13(Ft)?

A: That would really depend on your listening area. 8030's with a sub work work for one to two people in the listening area. 8050's would offer an 8'' woofer with better separation in the sonic field B&H # GE8050BPM. 1032c's would be great as well with a 10'' woofer and offer SAM technology BH #GE1032CPM.

[26 x 17 x 17"] Yes, Genelec are pricey and yet, it's difficult to compare them to any other studio monitor.
The clarity and consistency of their reproduction is overwhelming.
I notice now details in songs I heard for many years, that I never noticed before.
Highly recommended.

[44.4 lb] I have three different Genelec monitors (8010, 8020 and 8030). The 8020s are really the sweet spot with a super clean sound and more bass vs the 8010s. The 8030s are also amazing, but a bigger investment.

[124 dB] I bought these for my small home office. The headline is that these speakers sound close to perfect. Genelec is one of the few companies that provides accurate measurements of their speakers. These measurements have been validated from third parties. The 8030c model measures almost perfectly flat from about 50 Hz to 20 kHz. Horizontal dispersion is also near perfect with smooth downward sloping response. This means that reflected sound will not introduce tonal imbalance if you're listening non near field. It also means that you can equalize these speakers to whatever response you prefer. There are a few minor downsides. First, low bass has significant distortion at high volumes. This is just physics: volume will always be limited by enclosure size and driver diameter. If you use a subwoofer like I do (crossed with 24db slope at 80Hz) and use them in a relatively small room this issue goes away. Second, vertical dispersion is not as good as horizontal. You need for the tweeter to point to ear level at the listening location. Luckily the bottom mount makes this easy. If you want better vertical dispersion you should consider the more expensive coaxial models like the 8331. For my case this doesn't matter.

If you want to research these further just google them. A popular science-based audio review site has these speakers #1 among around 100 tested, if you use them with a subwoofer. They compute a suite of measurements and run these through a preference model developed at Harmon that takes this data and predicts listener preference in a blind speaker test. The model explains 86% of listener preference variance.

Anyway, these are some of the best speakers around and I highly recommend them.

[+25 dBu] this is like you buy it and last for about 25 years, and the used market value are still giving you back the difference, if you hesitated this is a to go

[0.05%] I have been using Genelec 8010s for 4 years as computer monitors but recent heavier listening overloaded the bass so I splurged on a set of 8030Cs. OMG, a new spring has arrived! A whole complex of midrange, bass, attack, separation has appeared. I never realized what was missing. I am overwhelmed. God, Genelec!

[26 x 17 x 17"] I bought these Genelecs because I wanted to a pair of monitors that wouldn't color the content I listen too. The 8020Ds do that for me. I prefer the raw finish to the normal black finish as it complements my desk setup. At first I was hesitant about the finish, but after I saw them in person and set them up on my desk, I was very happy with the choice. I have them on K&M 26772 small desktop stands which fit them nicely.
