This 3-stop, 77mm Schneider ND & Circular Polarizer Filter 77mm 3-Stopcombines a solid neutral density effect and a circular polarizer effect. The solid neutral density effect provides an exposure reduction of 3 stops. Its 0.9 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed without overexposing your image. By slowing your exposure time or increasing your aperture, you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily.

Along with this filter's solid neutral density effect is a circular polarizer effect that is simultaneously applied to help reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface. The light from the sun naturally becomes partially polarized due to reflecting off electrons in air molecules, causing the light to scatter into what appears as haze. A polarizing filter arranges, and filters, this directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light, allowing for the absorption of much of this light. This results in a noticeable reduction of glare and reflections from non-metallic surfaces and an increase in the saturation of skies and foliage.

A circular polarizer only differs from a linear polarizer in that it contains a quarter wave plane in addition to the linear polarizing filter. The addition of this quarter wave plane is to circularly polarize the linearly polarized light for the use of auto focus and exposure functions. Due to how the light is broken down and filtered with a linear polarizer, auto focus and exposure accuracy become skewed during use. When the light becomes circularly polarized, it permits the use of these functions.

This 77mm Neutral Density 0.9 Circular Polarizer Filter is constructed from water white glass for increased optical clarity as well as color fidelity and features an anodized, aluminum-alloy filter ring that can be rotated in order to adjust the intensity of the polarization effect.

0.9 neutral density filter effect darkens the image, allowing you to photograph with a longer shutter speed or wider aperture than normally required and is combined with a circular polarizing effect to help reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface

8x filter factor provides a reduction of 3 stops; neutral density filter effect allows you to control depth of field and convey movement more easily

Polarizing filter effect arranges, and filters, directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light, allowing for the absorption of much of the light

Clears up haze in distant landscapes and provides more saturated, vivid colors

Strongest polarizing effect when used at a 90° angle from the sun

Circular polarizers are ideal for use with digital cameras and autofocus lenses where a linear polarizer will often disrupt auto exposure and focus features

Constructed from water white glass for increased optical clarity

Each glass surface includes multiple layers of anti-reflection coating to prevent internal ghosting and reflections

Anodized, aluminum-alloy filter ring for durability while remaining lightweight

Thin filter ring helps to prevent vignetting

Filter ring can be rotated to adjust the intensity of the polarization effect

77mm front filter threads allow for use with other filters

Padded pouch included for storage and transport

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Would this filter give me rich and colorful results when doing street photography, and if so, how many stops should I go for so that I dont have to change the filter too often even if it gets dark, 3, 4 stops?... or should I go for a polarizer one? Thanks

A: Yes, it will clean up your images by saturating colors and increasing contrast. I would just go with a polarizer that would cut out about 1-2 stops.

Q: 2. Can you stack PolarPro ND filters?

A: The PolarPro 82mm ND1000 QuartzLine Solid Neutral Density 3.0 and Circular Polarizer Filter (10-Stop) have front filter threads, so you could stack them with other filters.

Q: 3. What can I use as a front cap for this item (dont tell me Schneider 86mm Push-On Cap because it does NOT fit)?

A: This Sigma LCF-86 III 86mm Lens Cap is compatible with the Genustech 82mm Variable Neutral Density and Circular Polarizer Filter. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1168370-REG

Q: 4. What can I use for a front cap for this? I've tried 86mm lens caps and they do not work.

A: You could use an 86mm push-on lens cap that doesn't have threads for the Genustech 82mm Variable Neutral Density and Circular Polarizer Filter: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/157564-REG/Schneider_91_030386_86mm_Push_On_Lens_Cap.html

Q: 5. Curious if this ND/PL stacked with a Tiffen Black ProMist on a 24mm lens will cause vinette problems (@f/1.4 thru f/4)? I'm thinking it likely will and might then go for non PL version as it looks slightly thinner? Cheers if anyone's already test this out?

A: If you use this on a full-frame camera, you would be likely to have some vignetting. On a crop-sensor camera, it would be less likely.

Q: 6. Where are these made? Thanks.

A: These are manufactured in China.

Q: 7. Can you use a lens hood with this? I am new to photography and can't seem to find one that would fit in or over this

A: The front of the K&F Concept Nano-X Circular Polarizer plus Variable ND2-ND32 Filter (58mm) is 62mm so you can attach a 62mm hood such as this: https://bhpho.to/3gdgVNq

Q: 8. Hello! Does this filter have front threads (to attach a lens cap)? Thanks!

A: Yes. 77mm front filter threads allow for use with other filters or a lens cap.

Q: 9. I have a Tamron 100-400 f4.5-6.3. Is an ND64 filter too high of stops for it? What should I take into consideration when looking for ND/Polarizer filters?

A: It's hard to say how many stops is too much because the contextual information (i.e. the kind of exposure/photograph you are trying to create) has significant influence on how many stops you might need. Technically you can use any amount of stops you want and likely achieve a similar result, but you will need to adjust your ISO, aperture, and/or shutter speed/bulb exposure times to compensate for the light loss. The ND64 QuartzLine ND and CP combo is great because it allows you to the option of not stacking a simple ND and CPL, thereby shooting through two pieces of glass instead of three. This is better for image clarity and lowers the chance of reflection/refraction issues between filters and glare.

Q: 10. Is it easy to see the effect of the polarizer and set it properly since the filter is so dark?

A: It is not as easy as when you have the ND and polarizer filters separate, but the best option is to increase the ISO a lot to focus and also to set the polarization and then turn the ISO down to take the picture.

[Glass] Some person says it dropped off camera but I think it is user error I could lift a Fuji gfx 50s with 45-100mm lens, it is solid

[Glass] great for times when you need both polarizing and ND filter. Saves changing out ND filters and using a frame. Takes a bit to learn how to adjust efficiently

[0.15 lb] Id like to believe God has one of these and simply adjust the filter to turn day time to night time.

[Aluminum] Don't know how I lived without one. I've had VND filters forever, but adding a CPL adds to the quality of the videos I can produce.
