Specifically designed to produce creative selective focus effects, the Lensbaby Composer Pro II Sweet 80 Micro Four Thirdsfrom Lensbaby Composer Pro II Sweet 80 Micro Four Thirdspairs the 80mm f/2.8 optic with a lens body for Micro Four Thirds-mount cameras. The Sweet 80 is a unique lens, which affords a distinct curved field of focus for producing a sweet spot of focus surrounded by smooth, blurred elements. When coupled with the Composer Pro II, this spot of focus can be moved anywhere within the image area, and changed in dimension, using up to 15° of tilt on the lens body. The optic also features a manual aperture for adjusting the size of the in-focus area and has a 12-blade diaphragm to further contribute to a smooth bokeh quality in the out-of-focus regions. The lens is constructed with four glass elements in two groups, and each of the elements are multi-coated to resist flare and ghosting for high contrast, color-accurate imagery.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. I'm looking for a versatile medium telephto lens for both photo and video. The lensbaby is intriguing. Can I enlarge the in-focus area enough to use it as a true telephoto to capture video simply by stopping down the aperture? Has anyone experience using this lens for video?

A: Hi John, This lens can be used for video but it is not a telephoto lens.

Q: 2. Does this come with a lens cap? I see assorted accessories for sale and don't know what already comes with this!

A: Yes, the optic will have a lens cap and the Composer Pro II will have a rear cap.

Q: 3. Is the lensbaby compatible with the Nikon D3300?

A: I own the Composer for Canon.. However, I think the D3300 has a standard Nikon F mount.. So, Yes it should work..

Q: 4. Is this lense compatible to the Canon Rebel t6i?

A: Yes, any of our Canon lenses will be compatible with your Canon Rebel series camera, including the Composer Pro II with Sweet 35.

Q: 5. Is it compatible with Nikon d300s?

A: Yes, the Composer Pro II with Sweet 50 Optic for Nikon F-mount is compatible with your Nikon D300s camera. It will work in Aperture Priority mode and your in-camera light meter will work or you can shoot in Manual mode.

Q: 6. I have a lensbaby sweet 56 and purchased it to create the effect of a sharp prime image with blur surrounding. It is a very nice lens, but it doesnt seem to do any more than my 50 mm normal. Open wide and shoot. Same effect. Is this lens any different as far as achieving a blur around the outside? Does it only allow you to move the sweet spot, yet still utilizing a wide open aperture to get the blurring effect? In other words, will my 50mm prime create the same effect? (Except, of course) the sweet spot movement.

A: We don't have a Sweet 56. We have a Composer Pro II with Sweet 50 Optic (pictured here) or we have a Velvet 56 which is a stand alone lens. Two different products and effects. The Composer Pro II with Sweet 50 Optic (pictured here) is 50mm, will give you a sweet spot of focus surrounded by a soft blur. Adjust the aperture for more or less of the soft blur. The Composer Pro II is optic swappable so you can take the Sweet 50 Optic out and put in a new optic for a new effect. It also has a ball-joint so you can move the sweet spot around your frame. If you have issues with a different lens of ours, feel free to reach out directly to Lensbaby and we're happy to help.

Q: 7. Compatible with canon 7d mark I I?

A: Yes.

Q: 10. Does this lens work with the Nikon D 3200?

[0.9 lb] I've known about lensbaby for years, and have watched it evolve - always curious but never felt compelled to give one a shot. I bought this after giving the trio 28 a shot, as I'm now totally in love with lensbaby products. The sweet 35 optic gives a center-focus and blurs the corners. Aperture sets the blur circle and amount. Then you have the tilt function of the housing that allows you to change from center, to the various corners of the frame. The housing doesn't feel too cheap, as it's a combination of metal and hard plastics - It feels more solid and substantial than the canon nifty 50. The images it produces are great, but I am still trying to figure out how to go about shooting with this lens. Do I set the tilt and then find the frame and focus? Or do I find the frame and then shift and then focus? Either way it's time consuming and this lens is best used when you have time to really compose the shots, like portraits. I think for street or quicker paced shooting, the key is to let go of the details and just shoot and be delighted with what you come back with. Fun little lens to spark some creativity.

[f/2.8] I've only been using this lens for a short time, but I love the results. It takes some practice, but this lens has a lot of creative possibilities and the effects are amazing. This a great lens to add to your collection at a reasonable and fair product price. The Sweet 50 is awesome !!

[46 mm (Front)] Having recently received the Composer Pro II with Sweet 50 Optic, I have only used it in a production situation once, and that was a low-light fast-moving event. Manually focusing in low light on moving bodies would be challenging with any lens, and of course the Lensbaby tilt system adds another dimension for the operator.
Obviously, these are specialty, special effects lenses, and they're not intended for action photography, but I did manage to get several pretty cool shots with the Lensbaby (on my Sony a6500), which I look forward to working on in Lightroom. (I won't post them here because I don't have permission from the subjects.)

I find the construction of the Composer II to be solid, the controls seem well-calibrated (and will take some practice to get muscle memory), and I love the look of the Sweet 50. I hope to get more optics; probably a Lensbaby Edge 35mm next, for a normal field of view on APS-C/Super35, and wide on full frame. I like that the optics can be purchased separately for relatively low cost when compared to the price of a whole new lens. I think I'll have fun with this system.

[80mm] I am relatively new to the world of Lensbaby, but I love the variety of different creative options that you have with this Lens, particularly the way the tilt lens lets you change the focal point of your image. Like most of the Lensbaby Line, there is quite a learning curve, but it has been a fun, yet sometimes rocky, path to moving forward with the lens.

[0.9 lb] This is a nice addition to the Lensbaby swappable optics lineup and complements the Sweet 35 and Edge 80. It is nice to have aperture controls built into the lens. Quality is very good.

[f/22] I already own the Lensbaby Composer Pro with Sweet 35 and Edge 80 Optics. It took some practice and getting used to; but once I did, I had a lot of fun with these lenses and took some great portraits with them. I was excited to hear about the Sweet 50, as it's a great portrait focal length, especially for those with APS-C cameras like I have, so added it to my collection.Remember, this lens is completely manual, so you may need to dial-in the focal length and aperture into your camera's menu settings so they they are recorded in the resulting file's metadata; and/or carefully watch the manual focus and exposure cues in your viewfinder/LCD display. The key is to slow down. But get those right, and the results are some lovely, narrow sweet spot focus (depth of field) with deliciously smooth bokeh falling away from it. It's not in the same league as the far more expensive prime lenses out there: there are some amazing pieces of glass that can do this too. But tilt the Lensbaby lens around and things really get fun, with different areas/planes of focus with some diorama effects.

[f/2.8] I bought this lens for the special effect possibilities and the flexibility to change different focal lengths. Note: There is a learning curve to using this lens ... when it is most effective ... or not. This is my second Lensbaby lens ... the other is a Circular Fisheye ... and super fun. Lensbaby lens are very good quality, produce excellent image and low priced ... I think of them as the lens you buy AFTER you have your basic lens. Lensbaby make fun lens for creative images. There lens are manual focus only ... and you set the aperture ... therefore it requires the photographer to think ... and slow down ... and that is part of the fun in using the lens.
