Styled in a white finish, Genelec 8320A is a single SAM-Series, 2-way active studio monitor designed to provide accurate mix referencing with software control capabilities for audio engineers, musicians, and producers in project studios, small control rooms, edit suites, or mobile setups. It features 100W of Class-D amplification driving a 4” woofer and 3/4” tweeter, producing a frequency response of 55 Hz to 23 kHz.

A proprietary waveguide enhances imaging, while the bass reflex port extends the low-frequency response. The die-cast aluminum enclosure is shaped to minimize diffraction and reflections. An XLR 3-pin jack delivers connectivity for a balanced analog source. Built-in signal overload protection enhances dependability and protects the speaker. Detailed frequency adjustments and automatic calibration can be performed via GLM (Genelec Loudspeaker Manager) software and the GLM User Kit (available separately). A selectable power-saving mode enables automatic power up/down via a signal-sensing circuit.

The 8320A offers multiple mounting options including an Iso-Pod isolation stand and threaded holes that are compatible with mic stands and various wall/ceiling brackets.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Are these speakers magnetically shielded?

A: Yes they are internally magnetically shielded.

Q: 2. Does it come with the speaker grates?

A: Sorry, grates are not included.

Q: 3. Will these do OK at a distance of 3 to 4 meters from the speakers? Want to use it in a medium size bedroom.

A: Thanks. That page doesn’t speak about the distance between speakers and listener — just between speakers and walls, and angles among all the three. For this price the info should be more accurate: at what distance from the speakers does the quality fall off? There are reviewers who say they attach these speakers to TVs in their living rooms. Are they in such tiny rooms that their TV is 2 meters away from them? I doubt it. This is the info I need: would 4 meters be too much for these speakers costing thousands? 5 meters? What’s the number?

Q: 4. Which do you recommend 8240APM or 8040BPM? ( I'm not mixing engineer. It's for my own project from composing to mastering by myself.?

A: the genelec 8040b i bought a pair and it was the best decision of my whole life the sound is flat but is the real sound obviously you need to start to fix your room with auralex and accoustic things

Q: 5. Which Genelec model is suitable for studios of size 50X23X13(Ft)?

A: That would really depend on your listening area. 8030's with a sub work work for one to two people in the listening area. 8050's would offer an 8'' woofer with better separation in the sonic field B&H # GE8050BPM. 1032c's would be great as well with a 10'' woofer and offer SAM technology BH #GE1032CPM.

Q: 6. This item shows up when filtering for AES inputs. But that seems incorrect. Does it have AES?

A: This unit does not include AES inputs. AES inputs are available on the 8330 and larger.

Q: 7. What is the best way to attach this to my MBP? I'm doing video editing and I don't have any Mixers / USB audio interface stuff. I just have the 1/8 inch headphone jack....

A: You can use a cable to connect from the headphone jack in your Mac Book Pro to the back of this monitor. However your audio will sound nicer if you intergrade a audio interface to the setup. The cable you will need to connect two of the Genelecs to the computer is in the link bellow. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1102499-REG/hosa_technology_hmx_010y_1_8_stereo_mini_to.html

Q: 8. What is the differnce between the 8030C and the G Three?

A: Internally, the Genelec 8030C 5" 2-Way 100W Active Studio Monitor (Single, Raw) and the Genelec G Three are identical. The two models differ in their input connector types and rear controls: - 8030C only has an XLR input, while the G Three has RCA and XLR inputs - 8030C uses a trim pot to adjust volume, while the G Three only uses dip switches - Bass and treble EQ controls vary slightly between the two - G Three has a dip switch to turn off the LED light on the front, while the 8030C does not

Q: 9. What cables do I need to connect to my MacBook Pro ?

A: You will need more than cables. The first thing you will need is a Peavey USB-P - USB "Direct Box". You can find it on the B&H website BH #PEUSBP. Then 2 XLR cables to connect the speakers to the Peavey.

Q: 10. Volume ntrol? Seems there is no knob on speaker..... how can you control volume? If I need external control, who makes the best?

A: There is not a volume control. although there is an input sensitivity control. The best way to control volume is by using a Mackie Big Knob: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1313074-REG/mackie_big_knob_passive_studio.html

[14.8 x 8 x 7.5"] I have been using Genelec 8010s for 4 years as computer monitors but recent heavier listening overloaded the bass so I splurged on a set of 8030Cs. OMG, a new spring has arrived! A whole complex of midrange, bass, attack, separation has appeared. I never realized what was missing. I am overwhelmed. God, Genelec!

[White] These small monitors are tiny but produce very high levels with low distortion and great clarity. Very easy to carry in the bag specific to the model. These are really incredible for the size! I have Focal Twins in the main studio and these in an auxiliary room. The white model is also beautiful and takes very little space on a small desktop.

[Active 2-Way] I sold my Barefoot Footprint 01 for this sub and a pair of 8330A and 7350A sub and I couldn't be happier! Let me explain why I made this decision.
In the recent months, Sonarworks' SoundID Reference has gotten increasingly unreliable on my M1 Max Mac to the point of constantly having to troubleshoot it. On top of that, the Barefoots have shown some issues producing accurate low end in my small-ish mixing space and I knew that having an independent sub will help a great deal with low-end precision.

Another big deal is GLM, Genelec's own speaker calibration and management system that costs pretty much the same as SoundID BUT is natively integrated in the speakers, gets free updates, allows for MIDI yard stream deck control, and pretty much means that you'll NEVER need a monitor controller again - unless you're planning to get another pair of speakers that aren't part of Genelec's SAM series.

This added value and piece of mind, Genelec's sustainability approach, the 8330s having lower overall distortion than the Footprints, and my low-end now extending all the way to 21 Hz at -1 dB (almost an extra octave compared to the Footprints) all mean that this is pretty much as good as it gets for a sub $4k set of speakers.

the 7350 does an awesome job at extending the 8330A's low-end without making itself known and the automatic phase alignment, variable bass mgmt frequency, GLM, and 7+LFE channel bass management I/O are unmatched at this price.

The ultimate cherry on top is that all the integrated technologies mean that the eventual upgrade to a Dolby Atmos system just means getting more speakers... no extra subs, monitor controllers, etc. My wallet sure appreciates the GLM ecosystem

[0.05%] The sound you are getting for your money with these is spectacular. If there's any downside it's that they can sound phenomenal with the right listening position and maybe not quite as phenomenal if you site somewhere else. The vertical alignment is particularly noticeable. Luckily the rubber foot makes it easy to adjust the vertical angle, not something you are going to get from most monitors or bookshelf speakers that are in prismatic cases.

The only other slight con may be some hiss if you stick your ear right in the tweeter, but if you sit a meter away you can't hear it. I turned the sensitivity all the way down and that also reduced the hiss. With pro-level sources (my reference level is +13dBu) you don't need the gain these speakers offer.

[8.72 lb] Yes, Genelec are pricey and yet, it's difficult to compare them to any other studio monitor.
The clarity and consistency of their reproduction is overwhelming.
I notice now details in songs I heard for many years, that I never noticed before.
Highly recommended.

[Active 2-Way] Just marvelous! Crystal clear. Loud enough to blow the house down. Too bad they’re unaffordable for most of the musicians I know…!

[+24 dBu] I bought these knowing there was a chance I might find something wrong with them and have to return them.
My use is casual music reproduction for desktop or portable use.
When I connected them to a old Macbook Pro using the headphone jack (not a DAC), pushed play with my standard test track, I knew within about 5 seconds that I wouldn't be sending them back. They're too good. Volume level is fine from a laptop headphone jack.

[8.72 lb] My studio is small, so this is plenty of low end to complement my 8320A tops. The extension down to 22 Hz helps me clean up LF content I wouldn't have noticed on my old monitors. GLM is fun and easy to use. My latest mixes are holding up really well out in the wild!
