Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How many papers can you develop with one tray of the solution?

A: The manufacture does not list how many prints you can get from Ilford Multigrade Developer (500ml). It depends on what dilution you use, size of trays and print size.

Q: 2. How long will this chemical last before expiring?

A: There is no posted date on the bottle, only a batch number. However, according to Ilford: "Full unopened bottles of MULTIGRADE and PQ UNIVERSAL developer concentrates stored in cool conditions, 5–20ºC, (41–68ºF), will keep for 2 years. Once opened use the concentrate completely within six months and keep all bottles tightly sealed until used. Working strength MULTIGRADE developer, PQ UNIVERSAL and BROMOPHEN left in an open dish should not be kept for more than one working day. If stored in a tightly capped bottle they may last up to 24 hours."

Q: 3. Can this developer be used for photo paper too?

A: Hey Joseph,This developer is exclusively for film! The chemicals are specific to what is found in film and does not factor in the different types of paper you may be using i.e. multigrade or fiber-based. Hope this helps!

Q: 4. How many 35mm rolls can this develop?

A: According to Ilford, 500ml at 1+9 will process 16 135/36 films.

Q: 5. Can I develop films with this?

A: Technically, yes. But for best results, you are significantly better off using actual film developer. Times and results will vary greatly because the concentration/strength/developing time and grain structure will be quite different. You will also have to experiment with dilution for best results.

Q: 6. Can I use this developer to process Kodak Technical Pan?

A: Yes, Rollei Supergrain Film Developer will work to process Kodak Techincal Pan.

Q: 7. Can i develop film with this?

A: I have never used this developer on film. It is designed for B&W photographic print paper. I use Rodinal to process my film.

Q: 8. How does this compare to the 2150XL chemistry?

A: Ilford Multigrade Developer (Liquid) for Black & White Paper - 5 Liters is just paper developer. That is optimized for multigrade paer. The Ilford 2150 Developer/Fixer Black and White Print Chemicals Kit 2x(3 liter) is, Ilford 2150XL Developer and Ilford 2150XL Fixer are liquid concentrate chemicals supplied as a kit specifically for use with the Ilfolab 2150 RC table top processor.

Q: 9. Will this work with graded paper (not multi grade or poly contrast papers)?

A: Yes this fixer can work with graded papers.

Q: 10. Can I reuse the developer after mixing with water?

A: The Ilford Multigrade Developer has good keeping properties and so can typically be reused.

[4 x 4 x 3"] I have used the PQ universal and this Multigrade, but this is my favorite. I often use the 1:14 dilution which produces great economical results. It has a good life in printing sessions. PQ is good, but I prefer the contrast and look of Multigrade, easy to work with.

[4 x 4 x 3"] Fist time making Lith prints. I really love the deep chocolate colors I am getting with this developer and selenium toning. Also I was able to get a print from an unprintable negative with regular chemistry. Great product.
