A: That number denotes the format being transported through. The NTSC refers to the TV standards being employed and the numbers represent the applicable frame rate on the signal.

Q: 4. Does this device test analog signals? Or just digital signals?

A: This is a HDMI to HD-SDI scaler. It converts HDMI signals (which are only HD or "digital") to SDI. (a signal type typically used in broadcast or television studios). I am not sure what you mean by "test", the device doesn't test anything. Although the display does offer confidence that the incoming HDMI signal is present and some basic information about the incoming HDMI signal. HDMI signals are very hard to test and require exotic equipment to truly test the signal (and cable). The Lumantek offers a particularly advanced features typically only found on much more expensive HDMI-HD-SDI converters/sealers; namely the option to set the outgoing resolution as fixed. This feature is particularly useful when using non-scaling video switchers such as the Black Magic ATEM series, which require specific set input specifications/resolutions. If you want to connect more than one HDMI device to the ATEM switcher, such as a DVD and PC, the Lumantek can make sure each HDMI device signal is converted to a single signal standard for use with the ATEM. Lumantek offers a companion product, the EZ-SHV+ scaler that converts HD-SDI signals to HDMI. We have deployed over 80 units without any product quality issues.

[5.25 oz (149 g)] Since GoPro screen isn’t functional when HDMI is hooked up it’s nice to have the screen on the converter/scaler for framing the shot. 5

[0 - 90%] This device cost more than a standard HDMI to SDI converter. However, believe me, it is worth it. This little device saved the day when we went live. We used it with the Sony Anycast 750 and it was able to set the correct format from our Canon cameras. Before we got this little scaler, the cameras would not even show on the board. We are IT folks and the only video we did before this was using webcams. So anything that makes out lives easier is very welcome. The built-in screen makes it easy to see that the camera is still on when the LCD screen on the times out. 5

[0 - 90%] Got this instead of the Gefen HDMI/VGA to 3G-SDI Scaler/Converter, as this Lumantek was enough from a feature set, and with the dipswitches, all adjustable on the device without software or screens. Simple, solid, and reliable. In one shoot, it even brought through a more accurate color rendering than the TVs and Projectors, showing our presenting laptop had a yellow night time screen mode on. Once we disabled that feature on the PC, this device showed our footage as pure white again. Wouldve been noticed on the stream, but not in the room. Nice. 5

[0.85 lb] Bought this because we have an older computer with VGA outputs and we need a specific resolution at our video mixer. So, for us we have a format converter and a scaler in one unit. Makes installing the system less complicated. Also, when we upgrade the computer, we can switch it to use the HDMI input. 5

[5.25 oz (149 g)] Nice converter, but is overkill with screen. It's nice to have, but is a little useless, it's not like watching T.V. being able to convert to other siganls is usefull, although I rarely use anything less than 1080p. 5
