Heliopan Bay 70 Medium-yellow #8 Glass Filter

Heliopan Bay 70 Medium-yellow #8 Glass Filter

  • Availability: In Stock

$656.85 $939.30

The Heliopan Bay 70 Medium-Yellow #8 Glass Filteris commonly used for a noticeable increase in contrast with black and white films. When your black and white images are flat, throw on a contrast filter.

Contrast in black and white is generally controlled by yellow, orange and red filters with red producing the greatest contrast. Moderate changes can be accomplished with yellow, which can generally bump up the contrast just enough to make the difference between a "muddy" print and an acceptable image.

Heliopan Lichtfilter-Technik of Munich, Germany, has changed their black anodized brass filter rings on most Heliopan non-rotating filters to their "slim" mounts. These slim mounts are made of black anodized brass stock and have so little rim in front of the lens (5.4mm) that they will not vignette with lenses as short as 21 mm.

Heliopan offers a wide selection of sizes, screw-in, series, bayonet, square and rectangular filters including digital, video, center weighted, graduated, wide angle, Kaesmann polarizers, drop-in polarizers, etc.

Especially useful for added contrast between blue sky with clouds and foreground

Freckles and skin blemishes are diminished strongly, but lips are rendered more pale (to compensate for, you may use a dark lipstick)

Interesting for snow scenes under a blue sky, because the darkened blue shadows in the snow make the shapes of the landscape look more dimensional

Filters still retain front threads for a lens cap, a lens hood or even stacking a second filter

The portion of the Heliopan slim filters that are in front of the lens have been reduced in thickness by 37% over the former mount

Heliopan cuts, grinds, polishes and coats their filters with the same techniques and equipment as used for the finest German camera lenses

[Bay 70] You will read many reviews that say you don't need a protection filter. I feel differently. I bought this Heliopan filter for its Schott glass (optically invisible) and its brass filter ring (jam prevention) and put it on a Nikon D500 kit lens (16-80mm f/2.8-4). If you are going to get the best DX camera and the best medium zoom lens for it, there is no reason to skimp on protecting your investment.

[Bay 70] I also purchased the NiSi filter holder system. Together this system is excellent for some awesome B&W photography. I'm also doing some infrared photography and the results are excellent. This Heliopan filters are the best glass to place on a Leica lens. And thanks to B&H for having this Heliopan filter in stock. Perfect service as always..

[0.275 lb] Heliopan filter is relatively expensive than B&W or Hoya but it is made of brass and it is much stronger than aluminum ones. I keep the filters into screw-type stack up filter case and saved lots of space in the bag. I am glad my decision with Heliopan filter. I don't see any problems with 67mm filter thread. The delivery took six weeks while they don't have a sock in house.

[0.275 lb] I wanted to get the best clear 82mm filter for my Sony 16-35mm GM lens. Even though I always used B+W for my cheaper lenses after doing some research I decided to go with Heliopan and wasn't disappointed. The build is great and the glass is super clear. I was concerned if it is going to vignette at 16mm or if I will be able to keep the hood on or not and I can confirm that everything fits and works great.

[0.275 lb] Heliopan is pricey but it makes sense to me to put a high-quality filter on my pricey Canon L series lens. I like the materials - the brass ring construction - the brass doesn't seem to get married forever to the lens so I can swap out the filter for a polarizer when needed.
