Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is this TRS TO TRS?

A: This cable is a 3.5mm male TRS to 3.5mm male TRS cable. A cable such as this can be used to connect a microphone with a 3.5mm female output into a camera's 3.5mm mic input. Also, this cable can be use as an AUX cable for line level from a device, such as an mP3 player or smartphone, into a powered speaker, digital recorder or a mixer.

Q: 2. What happens to the signal on left and right inputs, if I plug in stereo microphones? Are they automatically converted to mono is just one channel used from each microphone? I only have stereo microphones.

A: You would only be able to plug in one stereo mic to this unit, utilizing the center input marked stereo. If you have two mono microphones that terminate with a 3.5mm stereo mini connector, you would connect one into the left and another into the right input.

Q: 3. What is the impedance on the input and output? Is it transformer isolated?

A: The input and output impedances are not listed. These would typically be high impedance on the input and high impedance on the output. ( probably 10 kohm in and 1kohm on out ). There is no transformers in this device.

Q: 4. I have 2 3.5mm mics will they be on separate left and right channels or be all in one?

A: The Saramonic SR-PAX1 Two-Channel Audio Mixer, Preamp, Microphone Adapter can be used to connect two microphones with 3.5mm connectors. There are separate left and right inputs on the back to connect both mics and a button on the front labeled "M/S" which is used to select between mono and stereo mode. When using the mono setting, the left and right channels will be combined as one mixed signal on both the left and right channels (same audio on both sides). When using the stereo mode, the two mics will be separated on different sides.

Q: 5. Does this mixer work with IPhones?

A: To connect the Saramonic SR-PAX1 Two-Channel Audio Mixer, Preamp, Microphone Adapter, you would require a 3.5mm to Lighting adapter such as BH #APLAADAP.

Q: 6. Can I use this cable to send audio from a Tascam DR-100mkIII to a Sony Alpha a7S III?

A: No. Although the Kopul CMX-RC30 cable has the correct connectors, it is not the type of cable you want to use. Since the output from the Tascam DR-100mkIII is line level, you need to use a level-matching cable for compatibility with the camera's mic input. Use the Whirlwind WHH4NL3.5 Line-to-Microphone Attenuator Cable for HDSLR Cameras (B&H # WHH4NL3.5), Kopul ACH4-25MON-RA Line-to-Mic Straight to Right-Angle Attenuator Cable (B&H # KOACH425MONR) or a similar cable with built-in attenuation.

Q: 7. If I use a splitter, could I feed audio into the camera and monitor at the same time?

A: No, a splitter may not work properly with headphones since the CMX-1-V2 is a passive mixer that outputs a mic level signal while headphones need a line level signal. The headphone volume would be very low. As a better option, you may want to consider something like the Comica Audio CVM-AX3 Dual-Channel Audio Mixer for DSLRs (B&H# COCVMAX3) which is a two-channel mixer that is powered by a 9V battery and includes many more features that you may find useful, including a dedicated headphone jack. Its two XLR inputs can supply phantom power and also accommodate 1/4" TRS jacks. It also has the the same three mono and stereo 3.5mm mic inputs as the CMX-1-V2, but the inputs on the CVM-AX3 can supply 3V plug-in power. You can use any types of mics and send one signal to the camera. We do have other options that may be suitable for your needs. Please feel free to contact us by phone or through live chat for further assistance.

Q: 8. Does this cable replace the original Rode Videomicro microphone cable?

A: Yes this cable can be used as a replacement for the 3.5mm cable the Rode Videomicro came with in the box.

Q: 9. Since this doesn’t work for IPhone, would it still work directly plugged into your PC for recording two mics? Like on Audition?

A: The Saramonic SR-PAX1 Two-Channel Audio Mixer, Preamp, Microphone Adapter's 3.5mm output could technically be plugged into a computer's microphone jack, but this is not how it is designed to be used and you would achieve much better results by using an audio interface instead.

Q: 10. Does this provide phantom power to mics that require it?

A: 'No' ... it is strictly a passive unit!

[-35 dBu minimum] I didn't know this product even exist, thank you B&H rep for suggesting this device otherwise I would have expended more money training to find a solution. It works as expected at first got a little scared as the noise was coming on in my audio but a little flip to the GND 1/GND2. I guess reading the instructions sometimes is recommended

[5.4 oz (153 g)] Works as it should. I had one but added this one as i didn't want to keep unplugging my existing one when I needed to set up another station. It's pass through so I plug in my Rode Caster Pro and this to run audio into my camera. It works well.

[0.46 lb] Needed it to convert a microphone plug to fit in my camera. Did everything it was supposed to do out of the box.

[-35 dBu minimum] I use this on my video rig to feed two Rode Wireless Go's to camera. It's just pass through so the knobs will only reduce, not amplify the signal. It's compact, very light, and well built with 3 cold shoe mounts which are perfect for holding the Rode receivers.

[-35 dBu minimum] I was in a jam and had to mix two music feeds into my GH5 in the field. I ordered this and was able to record the 2 mono tracks as stereo and then mix them in Final Cut Pro. Worked like a charm. I intend to use it more often now that I have it. And I love that it has the 3 additional shoes built into the body!  Very versatile.

[5.4 oz (153 g)] I normally don’t make reviews, but I thought someone should come in and defend the honor of this gadget after a couple less-than-stellar reviews.

For a DSLR/Mirrorless shooter, this thing is a must-have. It’s just a supremely handy thing to have in your bag when you need it.

When I’m shooting for the big screen, or need isolated audio tracks or phantom power, I’ll pull out my MixPre.

But for simple web videos when that’s overkill (whether interview or run-n-gun b-roll), this thing’s great when you want to get 2 audio sources into the 3.5mm input on your camera.

Obviously, there’s no pre-amps or phantom power, so I tend to only use with sources that have their own built-in preamps (like wireless mic receivers or a Røde videomic pro).

I can lav up two subjects with my Sennheiser wireless mics and record each subject to a separate channel on my camera (on on the left, one on the right), which is amazing flexibility to have.

Or I can run a wireless lav into one channel and my Røde Videomic Pro into the other and have that great lav/shotgun flexibility.

All in all, can’t say enough good things about this device.

Dollar-for-dollar, no device expands the audio capabilities of a DSLR/Mirrorless camera like this thing does.

Just make sure you set your expectations right. And that means plugging in devices that boost their own signal.

[5.4 oz (153 g)] I was going to get one of these on eBay but when I started looking around and saw the prices aren't that much different I decided to go with some thing from a reputable company. The detents in the knob are very smooth and nice just enough to know that you're clicking it but still give some of that smooth action. It will work both in forward and reverse since it is a passive device. Has a nice aluminum red face and solid smooth black exterior of metal it just feels so nice in the hand. It Came with a nice rode like red cable too. FYI the bottom hot (Cold) shoe mount does not have a 1/4' 20 thread which is slightly annoying, however I also got a three-way cold shoe cube that has a quarter mount if I need to. And the picture represents it almost exactly it's about the size of a fist and fits in your hand fairly well.

[-35 dBu minimum] I had almost given up trying to find an affordable solution to our long-standing issue of trying to get the audio feed from our sound console into a consumer grade video camera. This does exactly what I needed. Now we have great sound for our live stream that is always in sync with the video.

[5.4 oz (153 g)] So I'm not sure what the difference between this V2 and the previous model but this thing is awesome. The build is super solid (pleasantly surprised) and the passive design makes this really handy. You can split tracks to have a lower level on one channel or you can send it two separate signals and adjust the gain individually and then pan them correctly in post. Keep in mind that if your 3.5 jack mic needs any sort of power this will not work. This is completely passive and will just pass the signal through. For example the Rode video micro mic does not work with it as it requires power from the 3.5 Jack. This mini mixer works great if you do not have a recorder available. When I'm not using my sound devices recorder I will use this for a safety track and to record two separate audio sources directly in the camera. Affordable, sturdy, simply works....Thumbs up!!
