Mx-powersled Cable For Sound Devices Mixpre-3 Mixpre-6

  • Availability: In Stock

$269.97 $329.36

The Cable Techniques MX-POWERSLED is designed for use with the Sound Devices MixPre-3 and MixPre-6 field recorders. It sports a Hirose 4-pin connector that attaches to the devices, supplying 7.2V to the recorder once it is connected, and accepting a DC input range of 9 to 24V from compatible, rechargeable batteries such as Li-ion NP-1 or smart batteries. As such, this device obviates the need for AA batteries and battery sleds, as well as the need for USB power. The former can often cost more money in the long run, while the latter doesn’t necessarily provide a secure enough connection for moving about in the field— obviously, no one wants to lose power in the middle of a shoot. Lightweight at 3.2 oz, the MX-POWERSLED can integrate into DC distribution systems, and can complement a bag rig replete with recorders, wireless receivers, and more, all powered by a single host.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Hi, I was curious what size/capacity of L-mount batteries this sled can accommodate? The photo here looks like it can use the larger/higher capacity batts, but the image of this sled on the Sound Devices site uses the smaller, lower capacity batts. Any observations? Many thanks!

A: It works fine with any capacity battery. Just keep in mind that the larger the capacity and physical size of the battery, the more awkward the MixPre may get on a tabletop or a bag, because the batteries stick out so far from the sides of the unit.

Q: 2. What L Batteries are compatible? Some are ripped apart by the oversized pins.

A: I didn't want to mess around and went with the Sony NP-F970 battery (even though it is not the cheapest option) with this adapter. It has worked flawlessly without any issues. Two years on the road and we haven't had any issues with power using that battery.

Q: 3. Does the sled attach securely to either the Mixpre 3 or the Mixpre 6?

A: Yes this will fit Sound Devices Mixpre like a glove secure.

Q: 4. I'm trying to use this MX-LMount battery sled on the MixPre-10 II and getting flashing red ring LEDs on all tracks when powering it on, with either a pair of fully charged genuine Sony NP-F970 batteries attached, or a pair of fully charged genuine Sony NP-F570 batteries attached. MixPre-10 II already has L-Mount selected as battery type in the MixPre-10 II's power menu. No other batteries/power sources are connected. I'm using an approved SD card that has been formatted in the MixPre-10 II. Any idea what could be causing this issue?

A: We're glad you were able to resolve the issue.

Q: 5. can I connect this to a usb power bank? what cable do I need?

A: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1567075-REG/anker_a1231011_powercore_slim_10000mah_portable.html?sts=pi&pim=Y This is the recommended power bank, you can use it with this adapter cable: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1353406-REG/zoom_dhc_1_dc_to_hirose_cable.html?sts=pi&pim=Y

Q: 6. Does this unit regulate power? I want to use this with a V-mount battery, but concerned about sending too much voltage to my MixPre-6 (original version). I can't find any power voltage specs in the MixPre owner manuals.

A: Yes, the Cable Techniques MX-POWERSLED for Sound Devices MixPre-3 And MixPre-6 sends a regulated 7.2V DC power input to the MixPre and accepts a 9-24V DC input range from external sources.

Q: 7. If the MX-Powersled is attached to a Mixpre 6, will it still fit in the K-Tek Stingray bag made for the Mixpre? Or, do you need to jump up in bag size to the K-Tek Junior?

A: HiIn my case I use the Mixpre 6 with the Mx-Powersled without any problem and with enough space in the K-Tek KSTGMIX Stingray - B&H # KTKSTGMIX MFR # KSTGMIX.BRRenzo M.

Q: 8. Are we able to use 8 iPower rechargeable lipo batteries with this sled?

A: It is not recommended to use rechargeable lithium batteries with a Mixpre series recorder. Sound Device does recommend using 1.5v non-rechargeable lithium batteries, or higher powered NiMH batteries such as B&H # PAKJ17KHCA4A.

Q: 9. If you use rechargeable batteries in this, can they be charged overnight by connecting the MixPre3 to a USB port?

A: No you can power the recorder via USB while recording or via the rechargeable AA batteries, however they need to be charged with their own charger outside the recorder.

Q: 10. Is this compatible with the newer versions of the Mix Pre series? I have one, it works well with the Mix Pre 3 v1 but doesn't seem to seat correctly on my Mix Pre 6 II

A: As a better option for the MixPre-6 II, you could use the Sound Devices MX-LMount Battery Sled (B&H # SOMXLMOUNT) which is available in stock.

[7.2 V to MixPre] I use the USB C for power, but the 8AA batt sled is great backup and lasts longer than my current 4XX batt sled.

[9 to 24 VDC] I updated my audio bag to include an SD MixPre-6 but wasn't thrilled with the powering options. But when I found this, I pressed order! And I'm glad I did. It works nicely withRemote AudioBDSv4U.

[9 to 24 VDC] Upgraded my sound kit with the new MixPre-6 but didnt want to power via, USB-C, AA or L-Mount.  This allows me to use my existing NP-1 distribution system. Its a tight fit and can be hard to unmount and swap SD cards.

[370 mA at 12 V] This is good if all you need is 2.5 maybe 3 hours of recording time (at one time), which fits what I do, plus it doesn't take up much room. You can always stop and replace the batteries, if you need more time, and i use the 3200 Energizer rechargeables. It snaps in the back of the mixPre 3, and has a very snug fit. It is hard plastic, but it does what it is designed to do, and so I'm pleased with it.

[3.2 oz / 90.0 g] The Sound Devices MixPre-6 II is a great, compact recorder, but it eats AA batteries for lunch.

Some users power their MixPre-6 II (and MixPre-3 II) with USB power banks, but the USB connection is fragile and risks getting pulled out of place while in use. Enter the Hirose adapter.

If you’re using one of the smaller MixPre units, there’s nothing like an NP-1 or HiQ battery for getting through an entire production day, and the Hirose adapter allows for use with the proper battery cup.

The MX Powersled features solid, metal construction that snaps easily in place on the recorder. This is a great power solution for the MixPre-3/6 II recorders.

[At 4 A] Snaps in really securely and is solidly all metal, though you have to be careful when inserting. I also have the 8 battery sled and the Sony sled but even those don't match the run time of this with a v-mount battery. You can also use this with an NP1 cup. The Sony sled holds batteries in awkward positions. The only downside of this unit is that you have to use this and the battery with a decent size bag.

[9 to 24 VDC] This saved the day on a remote job that I had. The mx-powersled fits snug on the mixpre 3 and makes it possible to unplug and go. I powering it through the usb c but this makes it far more accessible and easier to manage.

[0.225 lb] Sled is very well constructed and provides a nice alternative to powering your MixPre-6/3 while freeing up the USB-C port for streaming.

[3.2 oz / 90.0 g] I was tired of carrying, swapping, and charging AAs for my MixPre-6 and forked out the money for this. As mentioned, it is a very secure connection that has me using the USB-C cable to get the files. I had been using it only when stationary, but recently bought a Sachtler small audio bag to carry my vmount battery, whose power will last longer than my shoulders.  As trustworthy as their cables.

[9 to 24 VDC] This powersled is the only way to go! It is quality construction made of metal and the four pin hi-rosie attachment is superior to other alternatives.
