The FotodioX Reversible Lens Hood for Sony E PZ 16-50mm F3.5-5.6 OSSfrom FotodioX Reversible Lens Hood for Sony E PZ 16-50mm F3.5-5.6 OSSis a tulip-design lens hood that blocks stray and extraneous light from entering the lens, preventing lens flare. It also protects the lens from accidental impact, which would cause damage.

The included mounting ring has threads of 40.5 and 52mm diameters. The Lens hood itself has 52mm threads and screws onto the mounting ring, which is then screwed onto the lens. The hood can be reversed on the mounting ring for storage. Because the hood mounts to the ring, the filter and lens cap stay in place without having to remove them. Additionally, you can use the original Sony lens cap or the lens cap included with kit.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What's the difference between the 1st version and this second version as the specs seem to be the same?

A: Even though the optical formula of the lens is unchanged over the previous version, Sony E PZ 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS II Lens has an updated control chip which allows the lens to focus while zooming. This also means that the lens can keep up with the 1080/120p video recording mode on the new ZV-E10 II. The new version is now able to communicate gyro information from it's stabilization system to the camera body, allowing better coordination between the two. The move from a metal lens mount to a plastic one in the Sony E PZ 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS II Lens helps reduce the weight from 116g to 107g (3.8oz).

Q: 2. How many degrees is the focus throw?

A: While not specifically listed it is estimated to be around 140 degrees.

Q: 3. I just bought the Sony A6000. Will this fit on my camera lens ? Thanks

A: I have had this lens hood for a few months now. It fits on the lens easily and detaches easily. I have had no problems at all with this lens hood and use it on the camera all the time. It will fit both filter sizes both the 40.5 MM and the 52 MM. I use the 40.5 MM Filter size.John H Canada

Q: 4. is this lens parafocal?

A: Yes, this lens is parfocal.

Q: 5. Will this work with the Sony A7C?

A: The Sony E PZ 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS II Lens (Sony E, Black) is compatible with the Sony a7C Mirrorless Camera. However, this lens is designed for Sony APS-C sensor cameras and will create a crop factor on full frame cameras, such as the Sony a7C. The megapixel will drop to 10MP in crop mode.

Q: 6. I just bought a Sony A6000. Will this hood fit my camera lens? Thanks

A: I use this on my a6000 and it works fine. The shade turns freely on the adapter (no dot or mark for where to position it). So you need to be careful that it is orientated properly or it will interfere with the photo at wide angle. You can put a mark on the shade to help check it is in the proper position.

Q: 7. How do I put a clip on mattebox on this lens? Seems it's not a 114mm diameter.

A: There is a groove that fits the end of the lens. Will not work with other lenses.

Q: 8. What is the zoom ring gear size? Thanks!

A: Sorry, but there is no zoom or aperture gears on this lens. What looks like zoom or aperture rings are just rubber grips. Only the focus has a cinema type 0.8 gear ring.

Q: 9. Can I use this lens with Canon C500 PL? Any recommend adapter?

A: Unfortunately no, you cannot. The C500 PL is designed to take lenses that are designed to work on cameras with reflex mirrors. Thus the lens is further away from the sensor whether there is a mirror present or not. On the other hand, Sony E mount lenses and cameras have no mirrors thus they can take advantage of that fact and mount the lens close to the sensor saving weight, design compromises and cost. (You can use, with an adapter, PL lenses on Sony E mount cameras.) Now if by some manner you were to attach a Sony E Mount lens to the C500 PL, the image could only be focused somewhere in front of the sensor. This of course means the image would be out of focus as far as the sensor and you are concerned.

Q: 10. Can this lens be effectively used in 4k Super 35 mode on the Sony FX9 camera?

A: Yes, the Sony 19-110 G Lens can be used in Super35 mode on the Sony FX9.

[0.175 lb] Easy to install and use. Great bargain for the money.

[Thread] Great all around lens. I used it the other day on a little nature walk. Lousy weather prevented me from getting really great shots but the zoom range and aperture really made it ideal. Obviously not the big zoom needed for serious wild life shots but a great walking around lens with great flexibility.

[Thread] This hood works just as well on the full frame 28-60 lens. I like it better than the Vello which is shown as the recommended accessory for that lens. B&H: add this Fotodiox hood to the 28-60 accessories.

[Plastic] There have been complaints about the hood spinning in place. There are two grooves on the adapter. By installing the hood in the second (closest to the camera), the hood stays as designed.

I've had no problems. It does what it's supposed to do.

[0.175 lb] It fits my Sony NEX 16mm f/2.8 like a glove, stores reversed with no problems. Would recommend for that lens.

[Thread] This is a great bring to the beach kind of lens. The f/4 is fine for portraits (it's no 2.8, no where close to 1.4, but good enough at 60mm+). Though, I actually drop it down to 6 and crank up the shutter to 1/2000, and I'm able to get a lot of action pics with surprisingly good (not perfect) sharpness, even with aggressive cropping ( a few crops were meh, though). The lens starts to take a dive in quality during the golden hour, like 30 minutes before sunset. However, by bringing the shutter speed down to...say...1/250 (1/50 with still subjects) and the f-stop to 4, I can squeeze in some pretty nice pics. I took an in-door pic of my dog, in unfavorable lighting, and was quite pleased with the results (used a tiny bit of denoise - nothing major). Would I use this lens at nighttime, or in-door, family gatherings? Only if I use one of my external flashes. Would I use it at an afternoon BBQ (no flash)? You bet! This lens is fantastic on a sunny day! I haven't tried doing video with it yet, so this review is only based on taking stills. As for the lens build, it's so much lighter and shorter than my Sigma 70-200 (my primary lens), so this felt like a feather lol. I know many prefer the Sony 18-135 for stills, but I truly do love the fact I can take portrait-like pics at 60mm+ with the f/4, that I rather stick with this lens as my jack of many, not all, trades. Also, it feels very rugged with its metal frame. The electric zoom is cool, but I probably won't use it. If bokeh is super important to you in every shot (maybe you are shopping for portrait zoom lenses), or tend to shoot in lower light settings, then go with the Tamron 17-70mm or the Sigma 18-50. However, if you want that extra zoom range and don't mind using 60mm-100mm (75-90 at f/4 looks good imo) for portraits, then this lens is for you. I hear it's even better with video, so that's another bonus.

[Plastic] I finally found the lens that I wanted for filming street markets. I believe this lens that will provide a good wide angle and a good distance for me to filming market places when I travel to Asia countries. It’s good for video in day time outdoors. The quality of videos are awesome. I took some photos and they are quite nice but I am more interested in videos than photos.

[Thread] I own 5 Sony APC lenses and I use my 18-105 the most. The 'mostly wide' 18mm solves most on the fly situations where I want to capture a large context indoor space or a landscape. The 105 end of the lens lets me reach into a crowd without being obnoxious. I use it occasionally for video, and the fixed 4.0 makes shooting without thinking, and without messing with ND filter settings, a breeze. Highly recommend.

[0.175 lb] This lens is really good, especially when you need to zoom in or out it’s perfect! Only thing is since it’s F/4 I would not recommend to use for low lighting scenerios, besides that this lens is really good.
