Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does the Zoom H6 accept Sony XQD cards?

A: No, the Zoom H6 Portable Recorder will not accept Sony XQD Memory Cards. The H6 will work with the following card types and sizes: SD (16 MB to 2 GB) SDHC (4 to 32 GB) SDXC (64 to 128 GB)

Q: 2. Does the zoom h6 have zero latency monitoring through the headphone jack?

A: The Zoom H6 does offer latency free monitoring in both standalone and USB interface modes.

Q: 3. Does this record 32 bit Float???

A: No. The Zoom H6 Portable Handy Recorder can capture audio at 24-bit / 96 kHz. It cannot record 32-bit float.

Q: 4. Why does the black one cost more if it comes with less capsules than the original, are there any other differences?

A: The rubberized black body of the recorder is it's main difference. This allows for a more rugged build and functions better in harsh environments.

Q: 5. Is it possible to plug multiple lavalier mics ?

A: Yes, you can plug in up to 4 mics (lav or otherwise) as long as they connect through XLR or in.

Q: 6. Is one able to receive a L+R from FOH and then still use the attached shotgun mic. Enabling the user to have a direct mix and then still have some room noise to mix in and out?

A: Yes. There are six channels, with two coming from the end-mount element. There are four XLR inputs, with dedicated channels and level controls. Any combination can be recording.

Q: 7. Can each channel be panned L/R via menus? If so, will all L and all R be mixed into the "backup stereo mix"?

A: The Zoom H6 Recorder does offer panning controls via the program mixer, which will apply to the stereo mixdown and monitor mix.

Q: 8. I want to transfer 4 discrete tracks from my Tascam 3340s without mixing into stereo. Will the H6 record four tracks simultaneously? I know many other recorders can only record two tracks, then another two.

A: Hi, Ed S. The ZOOM H6 can record 4 audio tracks simultaneously. Just run each of your 4 tracks separately out of your 3340s and separately into each track of the ZOOM H6. Don't forget to read the owners manual to set the quality of your new recording. The ZOOM H6 is an excellent product that will actually allow you to record 6 separate channels simultaneously (with an additional module). I hope my answer helps you. Thanks.

Q: 9. I am not sure if I got a defective Zoom h6. My device has this faint hissing noise even without any microphone plug in. if I set my gain to 6 and above and bump headphone volume to about 60 I can hear noises and I can also hear this noise in the record as well. Can someone confirm this with your device? - Thanks

A: Yeah this happens with mine as well. I haven't heard it too much in my recordings though. But if it makes you feel any better, I have noise when the gain is set to 6 or above too, even without a microphone plugged in.

Q: 10. can I use an external battery with this recorder?

A: Yes, the Zoom H6 Portable Handy Recorder can be powered with an external USB battery pack.

[Handle] Excellent gear to improve the sound of the videos. Easy to handle, requires some time to get use to it, but it is perfect for my necessities. Both mics are tremendous.

[Black] After days and days of research into sound recorders, the Zoom H6 stood out in quality, versatility and features. There was no doubt in my mind as to what I wanted. But besides the quality of the Zoom H6, mention should definitely also be made about B&H, and the way they make it possible for anyone all over the world to obtain these amazing machines. The technical knowledge for any product on their site - which is needed to make an informed decision - is astounding. If B&H doesn't say so, it ain't so... I was able to afford my H6 solely because of the DealZone feature. Due to the hours time difference, I actually missed the deadline, but B&H extended the deal and gave me a free Fur Windshield as a gift! B&H made it possible to improve the quality of my work, which would not have happened, if it wasn't for the DealZone special. In Africa we are not used to this level of service. I think service for B&H means much more than merely selling stuff, they are an excellent source of information on all things photo/video/audio... related! Thanks!

[4.7 lb] I’ve watched a lot of positive reviews on this product until I’ve had it in my hand. It’s totally a must have tool for a videographer or use it as a audio interface. Love II.

[4.7 lb] I bought the H6 whilst it was discounted, intended as an upgrade for my much-loved H1n. I like the XY pattern and its ability to choose between both 90 degrees and 120, which is excellent for my purposes. I haven't had good opportunity to experiment with the M/S microphone module, but I'm sure I'll dig it out and use it.

The build quality over the H1n is light-years apart, from fairly-flimsy plastic to a very solid feel. Being able to interchange the microphone modules was a significant appeal, and the ability to plug in up to four additional inputs is also a drawcard over other recorders.

The only downside (and I knew about it beforehand) is not being able to transfer the accessories I have for the H1n. The H1n uses two AAAs while this takes four AAs, and this requires a full size SD card to the H1n's micro (I suppose an adapter could be used, but wouldn't be backward compatible). That said, because I still have the full H1n kit, I could potentially mount the two side-by-side and use a short cable to connect to the H6 for full surround recording.

[4.7 lb] My new Zoom H6 audio recorder purchased from B&H is excellent. It does everything I need it to do for recording high quality audio files. I'm pairing this recorder with 2 SHURE SM48 dynamic microphones also purchased from B&H. So far I'm a happy camper with this device!

[4.7 lb] There's a learning curve to mastering this good, solid field recorder, but not bad from the perspective of this user who wants good quality without requiring the user become a techie.

[4.7 lb] It can be used as an external mic with great preamps, a podcasting mic, an audio interface for making music and live-streaming, a field recorder for ambient noise and foley. It’s so versatile and sounds amazing. The X/Y capsule has great bass and makes my voice sound even better than real life! Turns on quickly to capture sounds fast, and accepts larger memory cards. All around, a great purchase.

[Latch] I play in an array of bands (mostly Jazz ensembles). We compared this recorder to several others using the internal xy microphones. The consensus was that compared to the other recorders by Roland, Tascam and Olympus, that we owned, the Zoom's internal mics produced a smoother, fuller sound with excellent detail and imaging.

The other recorders did a good job but the recordings had a slightly thinner sound quality. The ability to record up to 6 inputs was not compared.

The color display is clear and easy to read and the recorder has a logical menu structure. The screen is small but the trade off is the presence of analog controls for basic functions which is worth the trade off. The H6 serves as a digitial interface for 6 channels as well as a recorder which is a nice bonus.

The Gray model comes with 2 microphones and a case where the black recorder, which is identical, omits the case and second microphone in exchange for the black finish. I do recommend the H6 recorder.

[4.7 lb] I love this Mike for several reasons, not only able to record good audio we are able to capture audio from XLR and quarter inch. You can record the audio at high-level and low-level at the same time in a high wav format.
