The black Electro-Voice EVID-S4.2 is a pair of 4” 2-way 8 Ohms commercial loudspeakers designed to provide full-range sound reproduction and even coverage for system designers, installers, and audio engineers configuring systems for paging and background and foreground music in stores, clubs, eateries, schools, and more. Each speaker is IP54-certified for weather-resistant use outdoors and features a fire-rated ABS plastic enclosure. A pre-assembled mounting system and supplied mounting hardware enable simple and efficient setup.

A removable, locking 4-pin Euroblock connector allows for compatibility with commercial amplifiers. The 4” woofer and 0.75” high-frequency driver yield a frequency response of 75 Hz to 20 kHz. With a 103 dB maximum SPL and a coverage area of 110° by 110°, the EVID-S4.2 speakers deliver consistent audibility and even sound distribution.

A: Transformers are used in 70/100 volt distributed audio systems. If your older speakers have the transformer , then you would use these as replacements. If your system is not 70/100 volts, then you set the rear selector switch to 8 ohms.

Q: 3. Is this a powered speaker, or does it require an amp? Also, what kind of connectors are on the back? 1/4", XLR, etc.

A: This is a passive speaker that requires an amp. The connectors on the back are screw-in Euroblock connections.

Q: 4. what type of Amplifier is suitable for these speakers?

A: i use a crown xls 1500 and it seems to be properly sized. i also use distribution amplifiers to control a rack of amps, ie. another 2 crowns for fhe subwoofer, more evids, other locations, etc.

A: Yes, the Electro-Voice EVERSE 8 Weatherized Battery-Powered Loudspeaker does have an auto-standby feature to extend battery life when no signal is present. The EVERSE 8 will automatically set itself to standby mode after 15 minutes without signal. The loudspeaker can be re-activated to full operation by pressing a button on the panel or with the app.

Q: 9. Will 12 AWG speaker wire fit into the rear inputs? I have 60' run to the receiver hence the thicker gauge.

A: Yes you might have twist bare cables a few times but should fit.

[N/A] I've been a JBL person for many years, but I must say that putting this speaker next to my JBl JRX112M (the same speaker configuration), blew me away. I never thought JBL could be surpassed. I was wrong. This EV speaker did it. As a pro musician for many years, I rate this at the top 3 speakers in it's class, if not the top of the heap. I love the light weight for transporting, as I have to move my equipment 5 nights per week in Las Vegas. The sound reproduction is great. It actually put out more volume at the same mixer setting than the JBL. There are two things I would like to see changed. The handles should be on top (as the JBL), not on the sides. This will make the speaker easier to grab and load into a vehicle, instead of bending over and reaching for the handle on the side. Another change I would like to see, is that the cabinet would have both Speakon and 1/4 inputs, as some mixers don't have Speakon outputs, therefore requiring you to buy an adaptor. The JBL has both Speakon and 1/4 inputs. Otherwise, this speaker is an excellent choice... 5

[4" / 102 mm] Easy to install with attached mounting hardware. Excellent sounding and weather resistant. Installed these and the 5.25” weather proof EV speakers as an outdoor system for a 1-12 grade school. Installed a total of 30 speakers. The administration was very happy with the results. 5

[0.75" / 20 mm] Love these speakers. Installed 8 in a venue, 4 in each room and they sound amazing! But add a 15 inch subwoofer and it sounds like a club! Amazing quality, clarity and overall volume these 6.2 evids produce! 5

[0.75" / 20 mm] This is an amazing loudspeaker. It's well-built, rugged and easy to handle. We purchased this to replace a speaker in a school gym; the sound quality and clarity and unmatched. Be aware of the connecter ports look similar to XLRs, but are in fact Speakon NL4FC Ports; they can be easily refitted with XLR is needed. 5
