Exhibiting improved clarity, flatness, and reduced reflectivity, this 37mm Formatt Hitech Firecrest Ultra ND Filter 37mm 8-Stopfrom Formatt Hitech Firecrest Ultra ND Filter 37mm 8-Stopis a neutral density filter providing a 8-stop reduction in exposure. This 2.4 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or longer shutter speed than normally required. By slowing your exposure time or increasing your aperture, you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily. Designed using inspiration from their cine Firecrest filters, these Ultra filters receive an additional lapping and polishing process during production to ensure lower reflectivity and improved clarity and sharpness.

The design of this filter has been optimized for use with digital sensors and promote nearly flat attenuation of visible, UV, and infrared light. Due to imaging sensors' greater susceptibility to infrared light, compared to traditional film, color casts can occur when photographing darker subjects that require increased exposure times. This filter provides a high level of neutrality across all three spectrums in order to eliminate color casts and ensure cleaner, truer blacks.

Applied to the outside of the SCHOTT Superwite glass construction is a 15-layer Firecrest multicoating, which helps to minimize reflections and flare in order to maintain truer colors and contrast. The multicoating is also scratch resistant and hydrophobic to benefit the overall durability of the filter. The filter is set within a 5.5mm-thick SuperSlim aluminum filter ring, which features front threads for stacking additional filters or attaching a lens cap.

This filter is designed specifically for photography applications. This filter is not suitable for direct solar viewing with the naked eye, including with optical viewfinders.

The Firecrest Ultra series filters exhibit greater clarity and have lower reflectivity than the original Firecrest filters. Borrowing from the range of Firecrest cine filters, the Ultra series filters undergo a secondary lapping and polishing process after the initial polishing and bonding stage. This additional step helps to ensure flatness and consistency for improved image quality.

ND 2.4 filter darkens the image, allowing you to photograph with a longer shutter speed or wider aperture than normally required.

Providing a 8-stop exposure reduction, this filter allows you to control depth of field and convey movement more easily.

Attenuates infrared light, as well as visible and UV wavelengths, to maintain color neutrality and suppress color casts due to increased exposure lengths.

The 15-layer Firecrest coating has been applied directly to the outside of the filter glass by way of a vacuum-formed, hard-coated, electrolytic process. The multicoating is water and scratch resistance for greater overall durability.

SCHOTT Superwite glass promotes maintained image clarity and is set within a 5.5mm-thick SuperSlim aluminum filter ring.

Q: 1. HiIs this a double or single threaded?Im trying to attach one more filter in front of it. Is that possible? Thanks

A: It is a single thread.

Q: 2. does this work for the tokina 16-28mm pro system?

A: This filter will not work with a Tokina 16-28mm pro. We do have special filter holders for that lens. https://bhpho.to/2WkRXmt

Q: 3. has anyone out there used this on the nikor 14-24mm and how did they find it worked?

A: The Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8 does not have filter threads, and this filter will not be compatible with that lens.

Q: 4. Will this work with the Sony A7SIII?

A: This filter will work with any lens with a 67mm thread.

Q: 5. Does the 5-stop (Ultra slim) filter allow stacking?

A: Yes, the Specifications state the FotodioX Pro 145mm Ultra Slim ND 1.5 Filter (5-Stop) has 145mm front filter threads which should allow you to connect an additional filter that has 145mm filter threads to the front of the filter.

Q: 6. Will my lens cap fit on this filter? The lens is a Lumix 12-35 micro 4/3.

A: The front thread for this K&F Concept Variable Fader ND2-ND400 Filter (58mm) would actually be 62mm, so your current cap will not fit.

Q: 7. does this work on this system http://nikonrumors.com/2013/09/07/fotodiox-wonderpana-145-adapter-kit-for-the-nikon-14-24mm-f2-8-lens-review.aspx/and has anyone used it and liked the results??? susan

A: Yes, the FotodioX 145mm Pro Ultra Slim Neutral Density Filter is compatible with the Wonderpana 145 Adapter Kit for the Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8. Unfortunately, no one has reviewed this combination on our website.

Q: 8. Can this be safely used for photographing a Solar Eclipse?

A: I would recommend 17 stops or more for solar eclipse, so I wouldn't recommend the K&F Concept Nano-X Series ND32000 ND Filter (100 x 100mm, 15-Stop) for solar eclipse.

Q: 9. Is there any polarization effect with this filter?

A: The K&F Concept ND2-ND400 Blue Multi-Coated Variable ND Filter (82mm) reduces exposure, but there is no polarization effect.

Q: 10. I just bought this filter and I experience something weird. When I turn it over the darker ND dot, the filter seems to go even darker and the photo look like a IR shot (all purple). Yesterday I set the filter at his darker point. I took a photo : f.14, 2.5s, iso 100. Then I turn further the filter and it became darker. So I change the time and I hand to go further as 60sec to get proper expose photo.. but in the viewfinder, it was all purple. Is that normal? I use it on Olympus em10II and 14-42 kit lens

A: The K&F Concept ND2-ND400 Blue Multi-Coated Variable ND Filter (58mm) is only rated to perform properly till 8.6 stops. Going beyond the specified maximum may degrade image quality. Additionally with higher levels of light reduction one runs the risk of IR pollution in the image. As you reduce visible light you are more suspect to this pollution, which could be why you are seeing the strange colors.

[3 x 3 x 0.75"] For this review of my ND 3.0 filter, 10 stop, I used a tripod, the Nikon MC- 36A remote and the ND Expert Pro app. This was my very first imaging with this filter. What I was looking to see the effect of the filter and what, if any was there a shift in color. As you can see, the color shift was minor. This is a pricey filter, however, it performed as expected.

[3 x 3 x 0.75"] I put these firecrest NDs head to head with PolarPros NDs and these are slightly more sharp and higher quality than polar pros. Just holding these in your hand you can feel the quality of the build. Theyre a breeze taking them on and off of the lens as well. Worth the top dollar they are.

[Glass] I was really pleased with the images that I have been able to create with this filter. As soon as I got it I took it to the coast and tried a bunch of long exposure shots at sunset. When I got the images onto my PC I was very happy to see that I could not tell which images I had used the filter on by looking at the colors. The colors were identical with and without the filter!

[37 mm] Yes these cost a bit more than other brands but you do get what you pay for. You don't get the color shifts that come with Tiffens, and to some degree Schneiders. The DPs and DITs I work with still are requesting these on every shoot so it was time for me to buy a set of my own. Super happy with them.

[3 x 3 x 0.75"] I bought this filter (95mm) to shoot the August 2017 eclipse. It worked perfectly. This filter, when shot in AWB (let camera choose white balance) does not add any color cast to the image. The images will be white, with no noticeable orange cast. you can always add an orange cast in post processing if desired.

I was very happy with my images in 2017 and plan to use this filter again for the upcoming April 2024 eclipse.
