Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. My Super-8 film was shot at 24fps. This unit records at only 20fps. For me, that does not compute. My question is what will the output look like?

A: You would have to speed it up slightly in post, using a video editing software

Q: 2. film scanner for 16 mm available?

A: Yes Blackmagic Design Cintel Scanner C-Drive HDR B&H # BLCSCN4KG2CP and Blackmagic Design 16mm HDR Film Gate for Cintel Scanner BH #BLCS16MMGHD

Q: 3. Is there a machine that transfers super* with sound?

A: I'm sorry no, all the scanners we have are without sound. You would have to record the audio separate and sync it up separately in post.

Q: 4. How many gigs does one 50 foot super 8 film require on the 32 gig SD card?

A: About 240 megabytes or 1/4 gigs

Q: 5. Does this unit allow you to watch 8mm movies normally without recording?

A: No, you cannot. The Wolverine Data Film2Digital MovieMaker-PRO is not a projector and is not designed for watching movies. The Wolverine Data Film2Digital MovieMaker-PRO is a scanner; it is designed to scan each frame one at a time to convert the film into a digital file. If you wish, after the film has been scanned and saved to the memory card, you may use the TV OUT output on the rear of the unit to connect the Wolverine Data Film2Digital MovieMaker-PRO to your television to watch the completed scanned digital file.

Q: 6. Does anyone know what kind of light source the Wolverine uses? Is it a projection lamp or a LED?

A: My understandng is that its an led. So far mine has worked fine with one exception. I was scanning some old b and w 8mm and it got caught in the gate and it tore the hole that advances the film. This continued to happen but only with that roll of film.so far it has worked fine with all other rolls.

Q: 7. I put the sd Card in my Computor and it plays the Films no problem -but when I Record the Sd CARD on to a DVD disc -the DVD Player wont play it -a message says it does not recognise the Files -- Do you have to change the FILE type MP4 to play back through a DVD PLAYER ??

A: The video format would need to be changed when burning the video to a DVD, which can be done through your editing software.

Q: 8. Can I save from the scanner as an image sequence?

A: The Wolverine Data Film2Digital MovieMaker-PRO 8mm and Super 8 Converter can output only full HD 1080p video at 20fps.

Q: 9. Does 8mm mean Double 8 (the kind that was 16mm and split after development) or Single 8, the kind that was 8mm all the way?

A: single 8 , regular 8 , and just plain 8mm are all names of the same format. it's 16mm in the camera and split during processing.

Q: 10. Will it save as 1920 X 1080p?

A: Yes, it will save the files in 1920x1080.

[1080p at 20 fps] I just finished converting 28 8mm home movies filmed from 1941 to 1960 to digital. I am amazed at the quality of product I got. Some of the movies were a little too dark or a little too light and I was able to adjust them so the quality was more than acceptable.

[3.1 lb / 1.4 kg] This Wolverine is a very good 8mm/Super 8 filmscanner.
Because with this scanner I could make my Super 8 films on 8-inch reels (500 Feet / 180 meters) for the first time in 45 years. I am very satisfied with this scanner.

[1080p at 20 fps] I am a pro 30 years+ who purchased this after reading many positive reviews and tutorials! Its worth every penny - I have kept this wonderful machine busy continuously except for sleep since I received it three weeks ago. It does exactly what it I needed - 8mm/super 8mm in with good quality video files output. It does not take 8mm film and convert it to 4k!!! It is critically important to keep one's expectation out of the HD arena! It handles old splices remarkedly well as well as large reels! Highly recommended!

[Auto] I have transferred about 30 x 7 inch super 8 reels with no problems. The resolution and colour are far better than projecting and videoing. Prepare yourself for up to 4 hours per 7 reel but it can be run overnight if the film joints are OK. Rewinding is painfully slow so I used an old editing machine instead. I did find with the first few reels that frame adjustment was necessary and it helped to fun the film through for about a minute, remove the SD card, check it on the computer, delete that file and start again to make sure that exposure, resolution and frame were all OK.
Also for Australian users, it's much cheaper to buy from someone like B&H than locally. Delivery was amazingly fast and I used an US/Oz adaptor; the transformer automatically adjust to our 240V power. Great machine and great results. Brian in Oz.

[3.1 lb / 1.4 kg] Worked right out of the box as advertised. I had already viewed a number of YouTube reviews and demos of the MovieMaker-Pro and knew it wasn't fast -- scanning 1 frame at a time. A standard 50-foot reel will take about 30 minutes to scan. You will then want to put the finish mp4 into a video editor. My Regular-8 scans all had part of the sprocket holes in the image and I had to crop these out.

It is best not to leave the machine unattended while scanning. It is subject to jamming from bad film edits and it has no auto shut off at the end of the film or if the film breaks. I set mine in a room that I can watch tv while it's running.

The quality is far superior to any of the copy-from-projection-screen methods and because it is scanned single-frame, there is no flicker. The mp4 defaults to 20 frames a second which is between the 18 or 24 fps that was standard for 8mm. Depending on your editor, you can re-adjust this speed back to the original if you want.

Very happy so far and the quality is acceptable. The next step up that I found was well over $1000.

[3.1 lb / 1.4 kg] If you have a bunch of old 8mm home movies laying around and researched how much it would cost to convert either digitally or put them on dvd you would know the prices are astronomical. I bought this Wolverine in hopes it would make decent copies of leftover 8mm movies that I found in a relatives closet. The converter meet and the xceeded my expectations. Does it jam here and there? Yes it does but for me jams were few and far between. The actual image that I got from the home movies were better then what I had professionally done. This is definitely worth the purchase.

[1080p at 20 fps] I purchased this after getting a price of $1400 to convert over 100 reels of 8mm film tapes and about eight large 7 inch reels to digital. The machine is very simple to use and my end product came out great! I took this on as a Christmas present to my father and surprised the family. My films were from 1960’s and even some earlier and this machine transcribed it to digital in a clear vibrant way. It is very time consuming, but if you have a lot of tapes like I did, with many of them not labeled and out of order, you’d spend a lot of time anyway. One 50’ roll took about 30 minutes to convert. The rewind on this machine is not very fast so a lot of times I manually rewound it myself. No big deal. These tapes that I converted were the biggest hit at our family party this year! It was simple to download it on my laptop and edit it also. Glad I purchased this!

[AC adapter] First one was defective on arrival. B&H took it back with no questions and sent another one. This one has worked perfectly with excellent results. I have put 50 rolls of 8mm through this machine so far. About 20 more to go plus 2 - 400 foot reels.

I make sure the film is clean before I put it in the Wolverine. This make a cleaner digitized film and makes the Wolverine happy.

[4.88 lb] This was a great purchase and is easy to use. I’ve been able to convert my wife parents movies over to digital. Durning Christmas Eve we surprised them with some of the converted movies on our TV. It was so much fun listening to them talk about old friend and family. Everybody truly enjoyed it.
