A: Michael, I purchased this charger to charge my camera batteries while traveling. I didn't like dragging the manufacturers charger that had about 4' of chord. (Where as this charger plugs directly into the outlet). It works wonderfully for this purpose. I haven't tried to charge anything through its USB port, but I imagine it would also do a fine job charging your external battery.
