Exhibiting improved clarity, flatness, and reduced reflectivity, this 82mm Hitech Firecrest Ultra ND 82mm 20-Stop Solar Photographyfrom Hitech Firecrest Ultra ND 82mm 20-Stop Solar Photographyis a neutral density filter providing a 20-stop reduction in exposure. This 6.0 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or longer shutter speed than normally required. By slowing your exposure time or increasing your aperture, you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily. Designed using inspiration from their cine Firecrest filters, these Ultra filters receive an additional lapping and polishing process during production to ensure lower reflectivity and improved clarity and sharpness.

The design of this filter has been optimized for use with digital sensors and promote nearly flat attenuation of visible, UV, and infrared light. Due to imaging sensors' greater susceptibility to infrared light, compared to traditional film, color casts can occur when photographing darker subjects that require increased exposure times. This filter provides a high level of neutrality across all three spectrums in order to eliminate color casts and ensure cleaner, truer blacks.

Applied to the outside of the SCHOTT Superwite glass construction is a 15-layer Firecrest multicoating, which helps to minimize reflections and flare in order to maintain truer colors and contrast. The multicoating is also scratch resistant and hydrophobic to benefit the overall durability of the filter. The filter is set within a 5.5mm-thick SuperSlim aluminum filter ring, which features front threads for stacking additional filters or attaching a lens cap.

This filter is designed specifically for photography applications. This filter is not suitable for direct solar viewing with the naked eye, including with optical viewfinders.

The Firecrest Ultra series filters exhibit greater clarity and have lower reflectivity than the original Firecrest filters. Borrowing from the range of Firecrest cine filters, the Ultra series filters undergo a secondary lapping and polishing process after the initial polishing and bonding stage. This additional step helps to ensure flatness and consistency for improved image quality.

ND 6.0 filter darkens the image, allowing you to photograph with a longer shutter speed or wider aperture than normally required.

This filter provides a 20-stop exposure reduction, allowing you to control depth of field and convey movement more easily.

Attenuates infrared light, as well as visible and UV wavelengths, to maintain color neutrality and suppress color casts due to increased exposure lengths.

The 15-layer Firecrest coating has been applied directly to the outside of the filter glass by way of a vacuum-formed, hard-coated, electrolytic process. The multi-coating is water- and scratch-resistance for greater overall durability.

SCHOTT Superwite glass promotes maintained image clarity and is set within a 5.5mm-thick SuperSlim aluminum filter ring.

Q: 1. Can one place the 77 mm Hoya CPD-77ND100000 ND filter over a 77mm Hoya UV filter, and in so doing protect the sensor further from UV? There may be slight vignetting, but if shooting an eclipse that will not matter.

A: Yes you could do this. That way you protect the Sensor more. That shouldn't be an issue. You just might have a slight Vignette.

Q: 2. Hi there. I would like to know if filter Hoya 67mm Prond-100000 Densidad Neutra 5.0 Solar Filtro (16. Is ok for nikon P900 ???

A: Yes, the Hoya ProND-100000 Neutral Density 5.0 Solar Filter (67mm, 16.6-Stop) will work with a Nikon P900 camera.

Q: 3. Will this filter produce an image with yellow sun or white color cast sun?

A: The Hoya ProND-100000 Neutral Density 5.0 Solar Filter (82mm, 16.6-Stop) will produce a yellow/color cast not white of the Sun. One of the safest filters does produce white color. And that is, https://bhpho.to/3Q9J3n6.

Q: 4. So is this filter ISO 12312-2 (also written as ISO 12312-2:2015) certified?

A: Yes it is: https://hoyafilter.com/product/prond100000/

Q: 5. Does it meet viewing specification for safety?

A: The Hoya 77mm ProND-100000 Neutral Density 5.0 Solar Filter (16.6 Stops) BH #HOND10000077 • MFR #XPD-77ND100000 will protect a cameras sensor but not the human eye: SAFETY FIRST: Observing the Sun without the proper protection may result in serious personal injury, including permanent eye damage and blindness, and/or damage to equipment. Never point an optic at the sun without an approved solar filter on the front of the optic. For direct solar viewing, viewing the sun through an optic, or when using cameras with an optical viewfinder, ensure your filter is ISO 12312-2 (also written as ISO 12312-2:2015) certified. Never use photographic neutral density filters for direct solar viewing, viewing the sun through an optic, or when using cameras with an optical viewfinder.

Q: 6. I wish to use this filter to view the total solar eclipse. Is it good for that?

A: No, the NiSi Solar Filter Pro Nano UV/IR Cut ND100000 Filter (58mm, 16.5-Stop) is not designed for solar eclipse.

Q: 7. Does it fit Sony 200-600mm lens?

A: The sony 200-600 does take a 95mm filter the Hoya 95mm ProND-100000 Neutral Density 5.0 Solar Filter (16.6 Stops) BH #HOND10000095 • MFR #XPD-95ND100000 will work on the lens

Q: 8. Is this filter ISO certfied?

A: If by ISO certified, you mean is it certified for visual (eyeball) use - not to my knowledge. This filter is intended for photo use only. For visual observation, use a filter intended for direct visual observation of the sun. I'm using the Hoya filter on a Canon PowerShot SX50 for taking photos of the uneclipsed or partially eclipsed sun using the LCD viewfinder. Don't use the optical viewfinder! Safe visual solar filters are readily available and cheap.

Q: 9. Will you need to remove this filter during the total eclipse to see & photograph anything?

A: Yes, solar filters are designed for shooting the entire sun and partial eclipse phases. You will need to remove the filter during totality to photograph the corona. If you also want to photograph Bailey's beads and the diamond ring effect, you will want to remove the filter about 20-30 seconds before totality begins and replace it about 20-30 seconds after totality ends. This will not damage your camera equipment. Another answer implied that it is safe to view the eclipse through your camera's optical viewfinder with this filter in place, but that is NOT the case. This filter is NOT certified for visual observation. Place a viewfinder cover or a piece of tape over your optical viewfinder as a precaution, and only use live view to focus and compose your frames.

Q: 10. Could you provide a more specific nm range for this, or is the spectrum available?

A: Unfortunately, ND filters like the Solar Filter Pro Nano UV/IR Cut ND100000 Filter (77mm, 16.5-Stop) that cut UV and IR light do not specify a nanometer range. This is because they are meant for long exposures photos without a color shift and not for IR photography.

[0.19 lb] Highly recommended.

I purchased a 4-stop ND filter (1.2). It never comes off my Sigma 105mm f/1.4.

Practically all my headshots and portraits (250 clients) since the purchase were taken with this filter. I can keep the shutter speed in a reasonable range with strobes (1/30 -- 1/200) without relying on high-speed sync. I can also keep the strobes at a reasonable range (1/4 -- 1/128), which wouldn't be possible without a 4-stop loss of light transmission.

Other ND filters have funky colors - maybe I was lucky but this one has not created any noticeable color shift. Thank you Formatt!!

[5 x 4.4 x 0.8"] For this review of my ND 3.0 filter, 10 stop, I used a tripod, the Nikon MC- 36A remote and the ND Expert Pro app. This was my very first imaging with this filter. What I was looking to see the effect of the filter and what, if any was there a shift in color. As you can see, the color shift was minor. This is a pricey filter, however, it performed as expected.

[5 x 4.4 x 0.8"] I didn't see any reviews here, so I'd chime in:

I purchased this with the Sigma 105mm f/1.4, and surprised that it has no noticeably color cast (compared to some ND filters for my 85mm lens).

I'm quite satisfied. The glass is very thin and light, like 30-50% of the weight of a UV filter for the same diameter.

I use this to get wider apertures in the studio setting, given that my strobes can remain fairly strong, and the ambient lighting can either be cut at higher shutter speeds (1/200) or introduced at lower speeds (1/30-1/60). A joy to use.

[5 x 4.4 x 0.8"] Yes these cost a bit more than other brands but you do get what you pay for. You don't get the color shifts that come with Tiffens, and to some degree Schneiders. The DPs and DITs I work with still are requesting these on every shoot so it was time for me to buy a set of my own. Super happy with them.

[0.19 lb] Hi,

Purchased in late 2020 for Sigma 105mm 1.4 (Nikon).

This ND filter is really good because it does not create any color cast. The ND allows me to use the lens at f1.4 without overexposing the shadows (while using my strobes). It is a great ND filter, more neutral than a few others I purchased for a 85mm 1.8.

High recommendations.

[5 x 4.4 x 0.8"] I bought this filter for the express purpose of a trip to the Gulf to get long exposure shots in the afternoon sun. It was amazingly good!

30/11/-0001

[5 x 4.4 x 0.8"] I bought this filter (95mm) to shoot the August 2017 eclipse. It worked perfectly. This filter, when shot in AWB (let camera choose white balance) does not add any color cast to the image. The images will be white, with no noticeable orange cast. you can always add an orange cast in post processing if desired.

I was very happy with my images in 2017 and plan to use this filter again for the upcoming April 2024 eclipse.
