Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Would this camera handle lowlight video as effectively as full frame mirrorless cameras?

A: No. Small sensors aren't known for being sensitive, and the HC-X1 isn't a great fit for low-light shooting environments.

Q: 2. Would this camera be good for filming Basketball games? How is the auto focus? I film under the basket for my Youtube channel so I wouldn't want to miss any action...

A: Yes it would be. This is a great option for filming basketball. It has a 1" Sensor, 20x zoom and great auto focus.

Q: 3. Are there problems with certain brands of SD cards with this camera, ones that I may want to avoid if using this camera?

A: We know what will work with this camcorder. We suggest this Sandisk 128GB Card. https://bhpho.to/2ILpMbi

Q: 4. Is there the option to record date/time stamp?

A: Yes, there is a date and time stamp option under the recording settings within the camera.

Q: 5. Does the HC-X1 allow XLR audio to be mixed with the onboard mic audio?

A: Yes, The Panasonic HC-X1 has two channels of audio to work with. And you can use one channel from the internal mic and one channel from an XLR microphone.

Q: 6. Is there a separate cable I can buy to charge the batteries (so I don't have to keep bringing the cable back and forth when I need to charge vs. wanting to do DC power, and can just have separate cables dedicated for separate functions?)

A: Yes, under the Accessories tab, you will find a list of compatible batteries and power solutions. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/accessories/Batteries--Power-for-the-Panasonic-HC-X1/1277528-REG-47010

Q: 7. Is there an instruction manual to put it on? So confused.

A: No instruction manual that we know of, but if you follow the images you should be able to figure out the way it fits around the camera.

Q: 8. In the overview, it says that a super slow-motion effect can be achieved through high-speed recording in HD resolutions at 120 fps but I couldn't find 120 fps in the specs. Does HC-X1 supports 120 fps?

A: Yes, this model supports 120 frames per second.

Q: 9. what are the specs regarding the hdmi output to external recorder?

A: According to Panasonic, the HDMI outputs images up to 4K 24p and UHD 60p/50p and is compatible with external recorders such as the ATOMOS Shogun. B&H offers other external recorders that should work such as those by Convergent Design and Video Devices.

Q: 10. Does anyone know a mountable camera monitor that is compatible with the hcx1? I've tried several from freeworld, to neewer, that say 4K compatible, however, The display only shows in the monitor when I lower the quality to UHD 1080p or lower quality.

A: This camcorder has the ability to output HDMI at up to 4k 60fps. While there are many monitors that accept 4k, it tends to be at only up to 30fps, not 60fps. Even a monitor like the Atomos Shinobi only accepts 4k30fps through HDMI, BH #ATSHINSDI. Having to lower the output quality would be the norm with most monitors. Keep in mind that 5 - 7" on camera monitors may accept a 4K signal, but the screen itself will only be HD quality. There really is no loss to setting the output to 1080p, which you can do while keeping the recording quality internally at 4K.

[Yes] Already owning 2 AG UX180s, I wanted a 3rd matching camera for multicamera shoots. Well, the UX180 is discontinued so I would either get an HC-X1, a CX350, or move to Canon and get some XF605s. The move to Canon is too expensive currently and the CX350 might not match exactly and is at least a grand more than the HC-X1 so I decided to go ahead and get the HC-X1. Bought it used this time and the thing arrived packaged just like new. The only evidence it was used was that it had 4 hrs on it.
So, the HC-X1, as most everyone knows, is basically the same as the UX180, minus SDI and timecode. The LCD is horrible and it has several annoying limitations. But it uses the same batteries, can shoot UHD 60P, has a wide and long zoom lens, can dual codec record, and the footage works in CS6. So I'll deal with the limitations and in a few years if the USA and I am still around might get some Canon XF605s, or a CX350, or an FX6 FX3 pair.

[Blue] Used this to protect my GY-HM700 in the rainforest's of the Congo for a month. It wasn't rainy season, but always having easy, accessable protection from pop up storms was worth every dollar. I've used Porta Brace products in the past and have always loved how they protect the gear.

[Yes] I previously acquired a AG-UX90 and it has performed flawlessly. Looked at the AG-UX180, but didn't need the SDI or TC ports (I use Tentacles for TC). So the HC-X1 was on the candidate list, and I purchased it based on my experience with the AG-UX90, and also for the commonality of controls and colors matching.
The HC-X1 is a good upgrade, in addition to the DCI and UHD 60 fps options, the EVF is a HUGE improvement over the AG-UX90 EVF.
The LCD is still too reflective for many outdoor activities, but adding a lens hood is inexpensive and makes most outdoor activities using the LCD tolerable. B&H occasionally has them at 50% off so watch for sales. Definitely recommend a hood.
As others have noted, the HC-X1 appears to be everything the AG-UX180 is, minus the TC and SDI ports. Save the money unless you really need the extra ports.
