Exhibiting improved clarity, flatness, and reduced reflectivity, the 100 x 100mm Hitech Firecrest Ultra ND Filter Solar Photography 100mmfrom Hitech Firecrest Ultra ND Filter Solar Photography 100mmis a neutral density filter providing a 4-stop reduction in exposure. This 1.2 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or longer shutter speed than normally required. By slowing your exposure time or increasing your aperture, you can control depth of field and convey movement more easily. Designed using inspiration from their cine Firecrest filters, this Ultra line of filters receives an additional lapping and polishing process during production to ensure lower reflectivity and improved clarity and sharpness.

The design of this filter has been optimized for use with digital sensors and promotes nearly flat attenuation of visible, UV, and infrared light. Due to imaging sensors' greater susceptibility to infrared light compared to traditional film, color casts can occur when photographing darker subjects that require increased exposure times. This filter provides a high level of neutrality across all three spectrums in order to eliminate color casts and ensure cleaner, truer blacks.

Applied to the outside of the SCHOTT Superwite glass construction is a 15-layer Firecrest multicoating, which helps to minimize reflections and flare in order to maintain truer colors and contrast. The multicoating is also scratch resistant and hydrophobic to benefit the overall durability of the filter. It measures 3.9 x 3.9" / 100 x 100mm and is 2mm thick, making it compatible with the Formatt Hitech 100mm Filter Holder.

This filter is designed specifically for photography applications. This filter is not suitable for direct solar viewing with the naked eye, including with optical viewfinders.

The Ultra series of Firecrest filters exhibit greater clarity and have lower reflectivity than the original Firecrest filters. Borrowing from the range of Firecrest cine filters, the Ultra series undergo a secondary lapping and polishing process after the initial polishing and bonding stage. This additional step helps to ensure flatness and consistency for improved image quality.

ND 1.2 filter darkens the image, allowing you to photograph with a longer shutter speed or wider aperture than normally required.

Providing a 4-stop exposure reduction, this filter allows you to control depth of field and convey movement more easily.

It attenuates infrared light as well as visible and UV wavelengths to maintain color neutrality and suppress color casts due to increased exposure lengths.

The 15-layer Firecrest coating has been applied directly to the outside of the filter glass by way of a vacuum-formed, hard-coated, electrolytic process. The multicoating is water and scratch resistant for greater overall durability.

SCHOTT Superwite glass promotes maintained image clarity and its 2mm-thick design is compatible with the Formatt Hitech 100mm Filter Holder.

Q: 1. Does it meet viewing specification for safety?

A: The Hoya 77mm ProND-100000 Neutral Density 5.0 Solar Filter (16.6 Stops) BH #HOND10000077 • MFR #XPD-77ND100000 will protect a cameras sensor but not the human eye: SAFETY FIRST: Observing the Sun without the proper protection may result in serious personal injury, including permanent eye damage and blindness, and/or damage to equipment. Never point an optic at the sun without an approved solar filter on the front of the optic. For direct solar viewing, viewing the sun through an optic, or when using cameras with an optical viewfinder, ensure your filter is ISO 12312-2 (also written as ISO 12312-2:2015) certified. Never use photographic neutral density filters for direct solar viewing, viewing the sun through an optic, or when using cameras with an optical viewfinder.

Q: 2. Does The Hoya XPD-77ND100000 ND Filter also filter UV and IR, or does it act only on visible light?

A: It is not a UV or IR filter. It is just neutral density.

Q: 3. Is the diameter of the actual filter part?

A: The diameter of the actual solar filter on the Celestron EclipSmart Universal Solar Filter is 63.5mm.

Q: 4. Does it fit Sony 200-600mm lens?

A: The sony 200-600 does take a 95mm filter the Hoya 95mm ProND-100000 Neutral Density 5.0 Solar Filter (16.6 Stops) BH #HOND10000095 • MFR #XPD-95ND100000 will work on the lens

A: Yes it is: https://hoyafilter.com/product/prond100000/

Q: 6. Can I use this on a Nikkor 200-500mm lens on a Nikon Z6?

A: The outside diameter of the Nikon 200-500mm lens is too large to fit the Celestron filter. You can use this Haida instead: https://bhpho.to/38vHAQw

Q: 7. Will this filter produce an image with yellow sun or white color cast sun?

A: The Hoya ProND-100000 Neutral Density 5.0 Solar Filter (82mm, 16.6-Stop) will produce a yellow/color cast not white of the Sun. One of the safest filters does produce white color. And that is, https://bhpho.to/3Q9J3n6.

Q: 8. What color will the sun appear through this filter?

A: The last Image in the Photo's of this Filter show's what the Sun looks like through this Filter.

Q: 9. will this be useable on the celestron skymaster 15-70mm binoculars?

A: I do not recommend using the Celestron EclipSmart Universal Solar Filter for Optics 75mm to 100mm on the Celestron Skymaster 15x70 binoculars. Please follow the link below leading to a better alternative. https://bit.ly/3HLFgY6 I recommend using extreme caution while using any folded design filters on a windy day.

Q: 10. How thick are these filters?

A: The Filters in the Ice 100 x 100mm ND8, ND64, and ND1000 Solid Neutral Density Filter Kit with Wallet (3, 6, and 10 Stops) are 2mm thick.

[0.43 lb] I bought this filter (95mm) to shoot the August 2017 eclipse. It worked perfectly. This filter, when shot in AWB (let camera choose white balance) does not add any color cast to the image. The images will be white, with no noticeable orange cast. you can always add an orange cast in post processing if desired.

I was very happy with my images in 2017 and plan to use this filter again for the upcoming April 2024 eclipse.

[0.43 lb] Hi,

Purchased in late 2020 for Sigma 105mm 1.4 (Nikon).

This ND filter is really good because it does not create any color cast. The ND allows me to use the lens at f1.4 without overexposing the shadows (while using my strobes). It is a great ND filter, more neutral than a few others I purchased for a 85mm 1.8.

High recommendations.

[0.43 lb] Yes these cost a bit more than other brands but you do get what you pay for. You don't get the color shifts that come with Tiffens, and to some degree Schneiders. The DPs and DITs I work with still are requesting these on every shoot so it was time for me to buy a set of my own. Super happy with them.

[0.43 lb] The quality of these filters is outstanding. While they are somewhat expensive, they are worth the price point. The one thing I fail to understand is with the attention to quality and detail the weak link is the installation of the light leak gasket that is included with the filter. It is a challenge to affix it to the filter and have had difficulty with every filter I have from them. I don't know why Formatt-Hitech does not place it on the filter as part of the manufacturing process.
