Exhibiting improved clarity, flatness, and reduced reflectivity, the 100 x 100mm Hitech Firecrest Ultra ND Filter Solar Photography 8-Stopfrom Hitech Firecrest Ultra ND Filter Solar Photography 8-Stopis a neutral density filter providing a 8-stop reduction in exposure. This 2.4 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or longer shutter speed than normally required. By slowing your exposure time or increasing your aperture, you can control depth of field and convey movement more easily. Designed using inspiration from their cine Firecrest filters, this Ultra line of filters receives an additional lapping and polishing process during production to ensure lower reflectivity and improved clarity and sharpness.

The design of this filter has been optimized for use with digital sensors and promotes nearly flat attenuation of visible, UV, and infrared light. Due to imaging sensors' greater susceptibility to infrared light compared to traditional film, color casts can occur when photographing darker subjects that require increased exposure times. This filter provides a high level of neutrality across all three spectrums in order to eliminate color casts and ensure cleaner, truer blacks.

Applied to the outside of the SCHOTT Superwite glass construction is a 15-layer Firecrest multicoating, which helps to minimize reflections and flare in order to maintain truer colors and contrast. The multicoating is also scratch resistant and hydrophobic to benefit the overall durability of the filter. It measures 3.9 x 3.9" / 100 x 100mm and is 2mm thick, making it compatible with the Formatt Hitech 100mm Filter Holder.

This filter is designed specifically for photography applications. This filter is not suitable for direct solar viewing with the naked eye, including with optical viewfinders.

The Ultra series of Firecrest filters exhibit greater clarity and have lower reflectivity than the original Firecrest filters. Borrowing from the range of Firecrest cine filters, the Ultra series undergo a secondary lapping and polishing process after the initial polishing and bonding stage. This additional step helps to ensure flatness and consistency for improved image quality.

ND 2.4 filter darkens the image, allowing you to photograph with a longer shutter speed or wider aperture than normally required.

Providing a 8-stop exposure reduction, this filter allows you to control depth of field and convey movement more easily.

It attenuates infrared light as well as visible and UV wavelengths to maintain color neutrality and suppress color casts due to increased exposure lengths.

The 15-layer Firecrest coating has been applied directly to the outside of the filter glass by way of a vacuum-formed, hard-coated, electrolytic process. The multicoating is water and scratch resistant for greater overall durability.

SCHOTT Superwite glass promotes maintained image clarity and its 2mm-thick design is compatible with the Formatt Hitech 100mm Filter Holder.

Q: 1. Will this filter produce an image with yellow sun or white color cast sun?

A: The Hoya ProND-100000 Neutral Density 5.0 Solar Filter (82mm, 16.6-Stop) will produce a yellow/color cast not white of the Sun. One of the safest filters does produce white color. And that is, https://bhpho.to/3Q9J3n6.

Q: 2. My lens has a 77 mm thread. I'm not sure what the "magnetic adapter ring" is for?

A: Ice 77mm Solar Mc Nd100000 is not a screw in filter. The adapter ring screws into the 77 mm thread and the ND filter will magnetically attach to the ring.

Q: 3. Does it fit Sony 200-600mm lens?

A: The sony 200-600 does take a 95mm filter the Hoya 95mm ProND-100000 Neutral Density 5.0 Solar Filter (16.6 Stops) BH #HOND10000095 • MFR #XPD-95ND100000 will work on the lens

Q: 4. Can you confirm this filter can be used to film the solar eclipse? What's the total time frame?

A: The Marumi 77mm DHG ND-100000 Solid Neutral Density 5.0 Solar Eclipse Filter (16.5 Stops) is unsuitable for photographing the solar eclipse. The filter does not cut harmful IR and UV light.

Q: 5. So is this filter ISO 12312-2 (also written as ISO 12312-2:2015) certified?

Never point an optic at the sun without an approved solar filter on the front of the optic. For direct solar viewing, viewing the sun through an optic, or when using cameras with an optical viewfinder, ensure your filter is ISO 12312-2 (also written as ISO 12312-2:2015) certified. Never use photographic neutral density filters for direct solar viewing, viewing the sun through an optic, or when using cameras with an optical viewfinder.

Q: 7. Hi there. I would like to know if filter Hoya 67mm Prond-100000 Densidad Neutra 5.0 Solar Filtro (16. Is ok for nikon P900 ???

A: Yes, the Hoya ProND-100000 Neutral Density 5.0 Solar Filter (67mm, 16.6-Stop) will work with a Nikon P900 camera.

Q: 8. Will you need to remove this filter during the total eclipse to see & photograph anything?

A: Yes, solar filters are designed for shooting the entire sun and partial eclipse phases. You will need to remove the filter during totality to photograph the corona. If you also want to photograph Bailey's beads and the diamond ring effect, you will want to remove the filter about 20-30 seconds before totality begins and replace it about 20-30 seconds after totality ends. This will not damage your camera equipment. Another answer implied that it is safe to view the eclipse through your camera's optical viewfinder with this filter in place, but that is NOT the case. This filter is NOT certified for visual observation. Place a viewfinder cover or a piece of tape over your optical viewfinder as a precaution, and only use live view to focus and compose your frames.

Q: 9. Can I look through my viewfinder with this on?

A: The usual practice to to do all the focusing & framing , Before you put this on, because its way too dark.

Q: 10. Is this filter, ND100,000 safe to photograph the sun? For a prolong period like a solar eclipse , 4-6 hours?

A: 4-6 hours is a lot. Usually an eclipse you take a photo that is fractions of a second. This ICE Magco Solar filter does not list reducing UV and infrared. If you plan on doing long exposures of the sun I recommend a filter that reduces UV and infrared like this one DayStar Filters 90mm White-Light Universal Lens Solar Filter https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1319794-REG

[0.6 lb] I bought this filter (95mm) to shoot the August 2017 eclipse. It worked perfectly. This filter, when shot in AWB (let camera choose white balance) does not add any color cast to the image. The images will be white, with no noticeable orange cast. you can always add an orange cast in post processing if desired.

I was very happy with my images in 2017 and plan to use this filter again for the upcoming April 2024 eclipse.
