Exhibiting improved clarity, flatness, and reduced reflectivity, the 100 x 150mm Hitech Firecrest Ultra Reverse ND 0.6 Filter 100x150mmfrom Hitech Firecrest Ultra Reverse ND 0.6 Filter 100x150mmis ideal for photographing sunrises and sunsets due to its unique design where the density of the filter is greatest in the middle and tapers off to the edge. By reversing this direction of the graduated ND, you are able to more accurately control bright horizon lines while retaining exposure in the foreground and sky.

Designed using inspiration from their cine Firecrest filters, these Ultra filters receive an additional lapping and polishing process during production to ensure lower reflectivity and improved clarity and sharpness. This filter has also been optimized for use with digital sensors and promotes nearly flat attenuation of visible, UV, and infrared light. Due to imaging sensors' greater susceptibility to infrared light, compared to traditional film, color casts can occur when photographing darker subjects that require increased exposure times. This filter provides a high level of neutrality across all three spectrums in order to eliminate color casts and ensure cleaner, truer blacks.

Applied to the outside of the Schott Superwite glass construction is a 15-layer Firecrest multi-coating, which helps to minimize reflections and flare in order to maintain truer colors and contrast. The multi-coating is also scratch-resistant and hydrophobic to benefit the overall durability of the filter. It measures 3.9 x 5.9" / 100 x 150mm and is 2mm-thick, making it compatible with the Formatt-Hitech 100mm Filter Holder.

The Ultra Firecrest series of filters exhibit greater clarity and have lower reflectivity than the original Firecrest filters. Borrowing from the range of Firecrest cine filters, the Ultra series filters undergo a secondary lapping and polishing process after the initial polishing and bonding stage. This additional step helps to ensure flatness and consistency for improved image quality.

Reverse graduated filters place the most density in the middle of the filter to accommodate bright horizons and other situations where the brightest part of the image lies in the middle of the composition.

The 0.6 density provides a 2-stop reduction in light in selective areas.

Attenuates infrared light, as well as visible and UV wavelengths, to maintain color neutrality and suppress color casts due to increased exposure lengths.

The 15-layer Firecrest coating has been applied directly to the outside of the filter glass by way of a vacuum-formed, hard-coated, electrolytic process. The multi-coating is water- and scratch-resistance for greater overall durability.

Schott Superwite glass promotes maintained image clarity and its 2mm-thick design is compatible with the Formatt-Hitech 100mm Filter Holder.

Q: 1. Could someone recommend a great stand for this light? I'd like to be able to tilt it, so I think I need a boom arm. I'd like one that is easy to adjust, not too awkward. I don't think the Matthews Stand tilts. A C-stand with wheels might be nice, but need someone to point me in the right direction! Thanks!

A: The Matthews reverse stand is a good stand but I would go with a c stand for any kind of boom or arm.

Q: 2. Can this hold an Aputure 120d with Light dome ii?

A: It is rated for 11 lbs. Just be careful of wind.

Q: 3. Does this work on the tilta mirage?

A: Yes. With no problem question is what holder does the end-user plan to use. Please review the following item just make sure to have correct ring holders that are required. LEE Filters LEE100 Filter Holder BH #LE100FH • MFR #100FH https://bhpho.to/3MVqZKg

Q: 4. Can I use this with an Alien B 400 and west tot 50x50?

A: The stand would hold it just fine. They are defiantly travel stands that have a little wobble to them fully extended. I wouldn't want to use them on a regular bases for local shoots. I personally use them for Litepanels LED lights as a travel kit and it works well in that case. For everyday use I would get a step up from these stands

Q: 5. Would anyone put an Astra on one of these things? Would love to put stands inside the case.

A: This stand is capable of holding up to 11 LBS, so it can definitely hold a Litepanels Astra panel which weighs about 7 LBS.

Q: 6. do I need to buy an extra piece to hold the umbrella or does it come with it?

A: You need to buy the holder from the light mfg.

Q: 7. do these filters fit in the Small Rig Matte Box?

A: Yes, these filters are compatible with the SmallRig Carbon Fiber Matte Box.

Q: 8. is this a filter that makes planets less bright?

A: Yes, Neutral Density filters make things darker however. It is mainly for use with the moon. The Alpine Astronomical Baader 0.6 Neutral Density Filter to reduce the amount of light coming into your eye during lunar observation and improve the view and contrast.

Q: 9. Do these filters have front threads? can they be stacked?

A: Yes, these filters have front threads and can be stacked

Q: 10. Does this kit come with one filter pouch that holds all 7 filters?

A: Yes it does!

[0.54 lb] Hi,

Purchased in late 2020 for Sigma 105mm 1.4 (Nikon).

This ND filter is really good because it does not create any color cast. The ND allows me to use the lens at f1.4 without overexposing the shadows (while using my strobes). It is a great ND filter, more neutral than a few others I purchased for a 85mm 1.8.

High recommendations.

[0.54 lb] I am a newbie to ND photography and while researching ND filters so many photographers I respected recommended the Firecrest Ultra...and I am very glad I listened to them. I plan on buying the less dense ones too.

[0.54 lb] I used this right away. It arrived in a timely manner and packaged securely from bhphoto. Once the ND filter arrived, I took it to the beach to test it out. I shot at mid -day, partly cloudy skies . F/11, iso 50 , 2-5 seconds of exposure (depending on how much ambient light was available, ie : shade etc. ) The Formatt Hitech filter, performed very well. It allowed me to keep an F/11 which kept my photo to be extremely sharp, instead of F/18+ which softens the image a bit. This in turn resulted in a high quality slow exposure shot, with the desirable silky water look. I can't imagine what I can do with it at sunset or in lower light settings. I believe there is a slight color cast towards warms, which I noticed with my other Formatt Hitech Nd filter as well. However this is not a game changer if you shoot in raw. The ND filter also came in a protective sleeve, and is well priced for the quality of product.
