A Tiffen 62mm Deep Blue #47B Filter for Color Balancingfrom Tiffen is a deep blue filter that accentuates haze and fog. It is also used in dye transfer printing, for contrast effects and color separation and tricolor work (lightens blue tones).

Tiffen's ColorCore glass is produced through a process that entails permanently laminating the filter material in between two pieces of optical glass that are ground flat to tolerances of a ten-thousandth of an inch, then mounting them in precision aluminum rings.

Tiffen's ColorCore glass is sealed between two optical glass sheets. In this way, Tiffen can better control the various densities of their filters and thereby create more exact degrees of filtration. This process makes for greater accuracy of color as opposed to glass that is simply dyed and become subject to deviation during the dye process

Tiffen, a leader in the filter industry, proudly makes its filters in the USA and backs up its products with a solid 10-year warranty

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will the Canon lens hood EW-73C fit on this?

A: Yes, you can use the EW-73C with this filter.

Q: 2. Does it have outside thread ?

A: The filter has front threading for stacking filters or using a lens cap.

Q: 3. Which filter should I get for the Sony G Master lens 50 mm?

A: If you're talking about the 50mm f/1.2 then you'll need a 72mm width for filters. As far as brand goes that's up to you. Part of it is depending on what you want to spend. Good brands to look into are PolarPro, Hoya, B+W, and NiSi. I would also recommend sticking with one brand once you choose.

Q: 4. is the compatible with the Canon EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM Lens?

A: If by compatible you mean will it fit the lens, the answer is yes. The deciding factor is the filter size. Both are 67mm.

Q: 5. Will this work on my Nikon Coolpix L 820?

A: Unfortunately, this Tiffen 52mm Circular Polarizer is not compatible with the Nikon Coolpix L820.

Q: 6. do these polarizing filters cut down on the amount of light coming in the lens?

A: Yes, typically all polarizers cut out from 1-2 stops of light depending on where you have the filter set to.

Q: 7. What is the difference between the coarse thread filter and the regular circular polarizing filter?

A: Tiffen coarse thread filters have a 1.0 pitch, while the majority of filters have a 0.75 pitch. Thread pitch is the distance between the same point on adjacent threads of a screw, so a larger number means a more coarse thread, while a smaller number means a finer thread.

Q: 8. What is the possibility of vignetting with this lens if I use a 18-55 or 18-200 mm lens?

A: When these lenses are used on cropped sensor cameras, there should not be any vignetting. If this filter is attached on top of a UV filter, then there may be some vignetting at 18 mm.

Q: 9. I notice this filter is not multi coated. I would be using this on the water. Does multi coating make a difference?

A: The multi-coatings on filters allow the filter to reduce glare or flare that would happen internally in the camera mainly between the filter and the sensor. Glare on the water would be caused by unpolarized light outside of the camera from the sun. As such, while I do recommend multi-coated filters, for shoots on water, glass, or foliage, a standard polarized filter would still work for your needs.

Q: 10. I bought this for my new sigma art lens 18-35 and it doesn’t seem to fit. Is there a trick to it?

A: The Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 Art lens does have a 72mm filter thread, so this filter should fit as long as it's not cross-threaded.

[0.16 lb] Professional photography usage. Solid and secure when attached. Crystal clear and easy to clean.

[0.16 lb] I use the 81B all the time on my DSLRs with the WB set to daylight, for scenics where it cuts haze, for flash, backlit and in-shade people-pictures, and in overcast. The light-loss is small and the effect seldom if ever too warm.

Incidentally other colour-correcting/-balancing filters are still useful, keeping the same daylight WB. That setting is right for interiors lit by incandescent or fluorescent, with an 80A or FL-Day over the lens. Those two really come into their own with mixed lighting, e.g. an interior with daylight coming through the windows.

B&H's price was reasonable and the shipping prompt and efficient.

[62 mm] The use of an 81A warming filter was recommended to me by a pro photographer and this lens by Tiffen did not disappoint. It really enhanced the contrast between a blue sky and the images. With good lighting, the addition of this lens made some of the images appear as though it was 3-D. The lens was clear and crisp. This was a great addition.
