Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. does it work with panasonic g9

A: Yes, if you buy the Olympus/Panasonic version, it will work perfectly on a G9 Disregard eroneous answers re: Fuji versions.

Q: 2. Is this flash compatible with Nikon D3200?

A: Yes the Goddox TT685N is compatible with the Nikon D3200

Q: 3. What's the difference between this and the Godox VING V860IIs for Sony except for the Li-ion battery vs. the AA battery and about a $45 ?

A: The Godox TT685S and the Godox VING V860IIS are identical except for the battery. If you need to economize and shoot personal projects like family snapshots, then the less expensive TT685S is for you. If you shoot for other people such as at weddings, we would suggest the V860II. With the extra strength battery it has you will last the entire shoot without have to change the batteries as you would have to if you were using the TT685S and its weaker AA batteries. You also gain a faster recycle time. The pain of paying extra for the V860IIS will evaporate during the stress of wedding shooting. You will be grateful you were smart enough to get a better tool.

Q: 4. Does the Godox TT685F comes with a bounce diffuser? If not, any recommendation on what would fit on it?

A: Yes a little white card pulls out of the front. Its not the best but it will bounce. I swear by these flashes though

Q: 5. B&H lists the G/N as 197, but the manufacturer list the G/N at 60. Why is there such a discrepancy between the two G/N's?

A: When flash devices are marketed in the U.S., a common practice is to provide two guide numbers which can be expressed in a variety of formats so distances and fnumbers may be calculated using either feet or meters. Thus, a g/n of 60 is used for distances measured in meters where a g/n of 190 is used for distance measured in feet.

Q: 6. Does this have an overheat protection feature?

A: I have rapidly flashed mine on 1/1 until it could no longer keep up; which was not a realistic condition. I was mostly curious how much it could take. The body and and battery location was warm to the touch, but not alarmingly so. It gave it a few seconds to recover and repeated the abuse to the limit again without adverse consequence. I would buy another one without hesitation.

Q: 7. Does it offer AF assit beam on Canon cameras?

A: Yes it does

Q: 8. Can this also run on store-bought AA batteries?

A: Definitely yes.

Q: 9. Will this work on camera (no wirelessly)?

A: Yes, it will work on Sony a6500 or sony a7, a7II etc.

Q: 10. Will this trigger the Godox AD200 or will you need the x1 transmitter as well?

A: Yes, it can be used as a master for the AD200, but would recommend either the XT1 or Xpro for a transmitter. Much easier to adjust on the fly.

[-7 to +90°] The photos I've taken with my Godox, made a world of difference with the addition of the flash. So much brighter and more visible.

[3] This was my first off-camera flash and I couldn’t be happier! This flash fits nicely in a bag and doesn’t take up too much room. The case it comes with is nice and sturdy as well. I used it in an umbrella softbox for an outdoor portrait shoot and it was even brighter than I needed. I like the options for using different attachments and modifiers. Seems like a very versatile and powerful flash that will be useful for most applications unless I need something even more incredibly bright.

[Modeling Light] Had the flash a few weeks and have had an opportunity to use it at a couple parties, plus just trying it out in the living room (test lab, I'm sorry!) Cycle time is quick, exposure is pretty good, setting is straightforward. Just fits my Gary Fong collapsible thingy. Big step up from my Oly FL-36 (GN36 , 2 AA batteries, long cycle times).
Going to try with a Flashpoint controller, similar to the Godox XPro. If it works well off camera, I'll likely buy another.

[-7 to +90°] Great value and it's such a game changer for indoor photography. I thought I would need an off camera set up but this flash handles many different situations so well that I can put off investing in a big flash set up for now.

[Yes] Tremendous light, LOTS of power. I have used it indoors, outdoors, studio, portraits, and groups (two AD200 Pros for group shots) with NO ISSUES!!! I own three of these particular lights and use them to creat some pretty creative lighting scenarios for my business. Could not be happier with the product. The shell is plastic so you have to be careful with how tight you screw onto light stands and other accessories, and of course you have to be careful with drops. Most lights are delicate instruments and this one is no exception, so in terms of durability treat it accordingly and you’ll be fine. Let me be clear, these lights are used in professional applications and achieve breathtaking results.

[1.2 lb] I used this flash while in college and loved it. I have paired this with my Nikon Z5! Although I have not experimented with this flash and camera combination, the time I have gotten to experiment, it has worked great! A great flash with a good price!

[-7 to +90°] I could not upgrade the firmware from Godox through my windows 10. So after a computer professional looked over the situation said that Windows 10 would not recognize the upgrade due to the time Godox wrote the firmware upgrade. He used Windows 7 and the firmware upgrade worked.

[Yes] Here is a flash for $100. What can you lose. Actually with this flash you have so much to gain. I bought two at once and have used them for events and off camera portrait sessions. They perform like or even better than my Canon flashes. I have had two Canon flashes die in the last two years at $500 each. You do the math. I will order two more soon before there is a major price increase.

[-7 to +90°] I’ve been using this Godox AD200Pro model for several years now as my secondary fill light in real estate shoots. My main source of light is the AD400Pro on a stand behind me, as most of the spaces I need to fill with my “key” light require a bit more power. But this strobe is a much more portable option to take with me around the areas I shoot as a fill light. It’s surprisingly bright, robust, and durable, but my old one had alas been dropped a few too many times and finally kicked the bucket. I just bought this replacement without hesitation. Fantastic choice, but make sure you also buy the godox trigger to go along with it.
