The Tiffen 67mm Soft/FX 1 Filter for Photographycan be applied to purposely reduce the appearance of blemishes and wrinkles in portraits or to apply a general soft-focus effect while maintaining overall sharpness. An array of small lenses distributed within the surface of this filter smooths fine lines and textures, which can be useful for creating a more flattering result of a subject.

This filter has a grade of 1. Grades of 1/2, 2, 3, 4, and 5 are also available where this filter type's effect becomes approximately twice as strong with each grade number increase. When higher grade numbers are applied, a halation effect around highlights can be created to further enhance a subject's appearance or produce a desired effect.

This filter is constructed from optical glass for clarity as well as color fidelity. It is made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between two pieces of optical glass and grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch, and then mounting to precision metal rings.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does Freewell offer a version of the UV filter that isn't threaded on the back and instead can magnetically attach to the glassless ring like the ND filters?

A: Yes, there is the Freewell Magnetic Quick-Swap 82mm UV Filter, BH #FRFW82MUV (https://bhpho.to/3zcfbNp). This is a a UV Filter that is not threaded and attaches magnetically.

Q: 2. Does this particular filter downgrade image sharpness in any way vs. not using a filter at all?

A: Technically, any glass layer in a lens system scatters light and decreases sharpness. However, the reality is good filters will not affect sharpness to any degree you can see. Frankly, other factors such as camera shake, focus, subject movement, aperture, lighting and contrast have far greater influence on image sharpness than a quality filter such as this one.

Q: 3. If I purchase the Polarizer Filter do I need the UV Filter also?

A: Charles;A polarizer is only good for certain times (there is no use at night for a polarizing filter or indoors), while a UV can be kept on day or night, indoors or out. Not only does it serve as a haze reducer, it is also a good protector for the front lens element.

Q: 4. How thin is this Hoya HD3 49mm UV filter?

A: This filter has a frame thickness of 5mm.

Q: 5. How many stops does this filter add to the exposure time?

A: An R72 filter will block about 7 stops of light but it will vary depending on the time of day, time of year and the anti aliasing filter that is built into your camera. Different times of the day and year have different amounts of IR light which will affect your exposure times. So you will need to experiment.

Q: 6. Hi I just purchased this and there is no magnetic adapter ring included and the filter itself is not magnetic and will not magnetically attach to my freewell magnetic base. I am confused. Can you explain?

A: The Freewell 82mm UV Filter BH #FRFW82UV UV doesn't come with an additional magnetic ring. The UV filter functions as a magnetic lens adapter ring that allows non-UV Freewell magnetic quick-swap filters to be used on a lens with 82mm front filter threads. Its rear-threaded filter ring allows for the convenient installation or removal of non-UV Freewell magnetic quick-swap filters.

Q: 7. is this filter necessary for nighttime videography? And is it worth buying this filter for video or you can do all of the color adjustments in post where you could remove the light pollution and grade to a natural night color?

A: If are shooting on locations at night with light pollution it is best to use a filter like the NiSi 67mm Natural Night Filter. editing in post will not be as good.

Q: 8. Two questions: (1) how thick is this filter, neglecting the thickness of the threads; and (2) why is the "filter factor" 0.6 to 1.5 stop instead of a constant value?

A: The frame is 6.2mm. But once threaded into the lens it is about 3.8mm. And the light loss is just under a stop.. It is not a range.

Q: 9. hI, will this work on nikon p900? if so, will I have to modify the camera..thanks

A: This lens is designed for SLR and DSLR cameras.

Q: 10. How thin is this Hoya 49MM HD3 UV filter?

A: It is about 3mm thick.

[67 mm] Just enough softening to relax the hardness' in a portrait. Does not create any fog or flare. Love using this filter in the studio for both women's and men's formal portraits.

[0.1 lb] I use this filter when filming interviews under controlled lighting - i.e. indoor. Digital video can be somewhat crisp on wrinkles and skin blemishes, but this filter softens them nicely without being too sickly fuzzy. Very happy with the results. It's not so good in strong uncontrolled lighting.

[0.1 lb] This is a very nice diffusion filter that effects small line without softening the overall image. I use it mainly for video productions. The only caution you should take, is if you're using a still camera lens on a video camera, and thus only using part of the lens. This will actually increase the strength of the filter and diffuse the image even more, maybe more than what you want.

[0.1 lb] I loves this filter F/X 2. It gives a soft focus to my portraits without actually blurring the image. Very good for close up portraits.

[67 mm] I often shoot women who just want that softer look and no matter how I tweak the lighting, they aren't happy. This filter is the magic weapon that works every time.
