The Tiffen 67mm Soft/FX 2 Camera Filtercan be applied to purposely reduce the appearance of blemishes and wrinkles in portraits or to apply a general soft-focus effect while maintaining overall sharpness. An array of small lenses distributed within the surface of this filter smooths fine lines and textures, which can be useful for creating a more flattering result of a subject.

This filter has a grade of 2. Grades of 1/2, 1, 3, 4, and 5 are also available where this filter type's effect becomes approximately twice as strong with each grade number increase. When higher grade numbers are applied, a halation effect around highlights can be created to further enhance a subject's appearance or produce a desired effect.

This filter is constructed from optical glass for clarity as well as color fidelity. It is made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between two pieces of optical glass and grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch, and then mounting to precision metal rings.

A: I have not tried it on the camera.I have heard that you need to modify the filters on the sensor so that it only sees infrared light.The filter is very dark to the normal eye, but the film has no problem receiving the infrared. you would think that no light is getting through. Good like!

Q: 8. How many stops does this filter add to the exposure time?

A: An R72 filter will block about 7 stops of light but it will vary depending on the time of day, time of year and the anti aliasing filter that is built into your camera. Different times of the day and year have different amounts of IR light which will affect your exposure times. So you will need to experiment.

Q: 9. Will this work with a Canon R5?

A: The Hoya 67mm R72 Infrared Filter will fit any lens that has a 67mm filter thread. You can use the filter on a lens that is attached to the Canon R5.

[0.16 lb] Bought this for studio work with my Leica lenses, which are often too sharp for some types of portraiture--every skin pore is right there. Tried the FX 3 first, but it gives noticeable halos on specular highlights like jewelry. These are minor with the FX 1, but the desired smoothing effect of skin is still noticeable. Depending on the subject, post-processing will often still be necessary (don't expect any filter to eliminate photoshop...) but the filter helps bring the unedited image closer to target. 5

[0.16 lb] This is a very nice diffusion filter that effects small line without softening the overall image. I use it mainly for video productions. The only caution you should take, is if you're using a still camera lens on a video camera, and thus only using part of the lens. This will actually increase the strength of the filter and diffuse the image even more, maybe more than what you want. 5

[Aluminum] Recently I had to do a re-shoot for one of our biggest clients. The first go-around, our client came out looking to wrinkled and older than he should have. I purchased a Tiffen Soft/FX #1 filter and did a re-shoot. Our client came out looking a bit softer with this filter. Of course we changed the lighting some but I believe this filter made all the difference between looking good and finding another production company. 5

[0.16 lb] I use this filter when filming interviews under controlled lighting - i.e. indoor. Digital video can be somewhat crisp on wrinkles and skin blemishes, but this filter softens them nicely without being too sickly fuzzy. Very happy with the results. It's not so good in strong uncontrolled lighting. 5
