Rivaled in speed only by its legendary 50mm sibling, the Leica Noctilux-M 75mm f/1.25 ASPH Lensfrom Leica Noctilux-M 75mm f/1.25 ASPH Lensis a high-speed portrait-length prime characterized by its ability to isolate subject matter, render subjects in a unique way, and perform admirably in low-light conditions. Beyond the wide maximum aperture, this 75mm f/1.25 is also distinguished by its sophisticated optical composition that solely utilizes anomalous partial dispersion and low chromatic dispersion glass to suppress color fringing and chromatic aberrations for high clarity. Two aspherical elements are also featured to ensure notable sharpness and low dispersion, and a floating element system is employed at the rear of the design to maintain consistent image quality throughout the focusing range from 2.8' to infinity. Additionally, this lens has an 11-blade diaphragm to produce an especially pleasing, rounded bokeh quality and a built-in lens hood helps to prevent lens flare and ghosting.

Extremely fast f/1.25 maximum aperture affords notable control over depth of field for selective focus shooting, and also benefits working handheld in low-light conditions.

Short-telephoto 75mm focal length offers a slightly compressed image quality that is well-suited to portraiture and close-up images, especially when used in conjunction with the shallow depth of field afforded by the bright maximum aperture.

Nine elements in six groups optical design is comprised entirely of anomalous partial dispersion and low chromatic dispersion glasses in order to significantly reduce color fringing and produce imagery with a high degree of clarity.

Two large-diameter aspherical elements are also used to control spherical aberrations for improved sharpness and reduced distortion.

A rear floating element system is employed to maintain consistent image quality throughout the focusing range, even at the minimum focusing distance of 2.8'.

An 11-blade diaphragm produces a rounded and pleasing bokeh quality.

Built-in extendable lens hood shades and protects the front element to reduce lens flare and ghosting. Additionally, the front of the lens is threaded to accept 67mm screw-in filters.

A tripod adapter is included to facilitate easy and secure use of this lens when shooting from a tripod.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this lens make me better at photography?

A: No, you need a camera too.

Q: 2. Do you need a evf to use this lens? Is this blocking the viewfinder? I have a m9.

A: No

Q: 3. Has anyone ever used the Noctilux 0.95 on a Fuji X mount camera? If so, how did the images look? Thanks.

A: I haven't tried that setup, but I do have that lens. I use it with the Leica M (240). I know that the Fuji X series cameras have focus aids, and you should take into account that the lens (purposefully) has extremely shallow depth of field when used wide open. That is, it gives fantastic results when you nail an image, but it does require practice in order to get it right. (Many people use zone focussing, or some variant.) Also, as you probably know, the lens is noticeably heavier than other Leica lenses, and probably heavier than Fuji lenses. Enjoy!

Q: 4. How much does 50mm f/1.2 lens weigh?

A: That information has yet to be released by Leica. However, we do have a shipping weight of 5lbs. (2.27 kg) for the box with the lens in it. For the purpose of comparison, the Leica Noctilux-M 50mm f/0.95 ASPH Lens (Black) BH #LE50095NB weighs 1.5lbs. (700g). We would typically expect a f/1.2 lens to weigh less than a f/0.95 lens, so a good guess might be around 1.1 lbs. or about 500g. We'll update the specifications as more information becomes available.

Q: 5. This item is have a International warranty or only America units warranty?

A: New product has a international 2 year warranty

Q: 6. What are the silver and black lenses made from? Brass? Aluminum?

A: The silver Noctilux-M 50mm f/1.2 is constructed out of brass and the black is out of aluminum.

Q: 7. is this a grey market lens?

A: No, these are Leica Noctilux-M 50mm f/0.95 ASPH. lenses intended for the US market. To avoid confusion, B&H labels gray-market or imported items in the item name and/or by the SKU number.

Q: 8. Is this lens made in Germany or Portugal?

A: This lens is made in Leica's Germany factory.

Q: 9. Is the 10k price tag worth when you compare it to the $750 price tag of the Mitakon 50mm f.95? B&H # MI5095CFFB MFR # MTK50MF095BK

A: For those that love Leica optics, it is worth it. For everyone else, the Mitakon is a good product at a much more attractive price.

Q: 10. When will there be goods?

A: Sorry, but we do not have a definite date of availability for this product. Please monitor the product page and request a stock alert if available. Hopefully it will be soon. If you have a Pre-Order, please contact B&H Customer Service for further information.

[67 mm (Front)] It is said that there is no such thing as perfection, well I beg to differ....this lens is PERFECT. It is the most exciting, creative, magical lens that I have ever used and I have had the good fortune to own a wide variety of Leica lenses over the last thirty years or so. I have had my Noctilux .95 since last February (having waited the usual eternity for it to arrive) and, after six months I still use it almost every day and I am still constantly amazed and excited by at what this lens does wide open and how great it is all around. I have come to the conclusion that it is the the only lens I will ever need or want. It is addictive!! Sure it is a heavy beast and it does block the view finder of my M9, but believe me you soon adapt to those small irritations and they no longer matter. This lens is nothing less than THE experience of a lifetime.

[67 mm (Front)] I've had this lens for over a year, and only now feel I understand it well enough to review it. The great thing about this lens is that it absolutely excels at two different things - incredible bokeh, on one hand, and incredible sharpness, resolution, and lack of distortion, on the other. The catch is, the magic of a super-crisp sharply isolated subject, and a dreamy, alluring out-of-focus background, is only obtainable if you can manually focus the camera quickly enough and with enough accuracy at a fast enough shutter speed to prevent blur. If you can, this lens and an M9 give you the potential to make the photo pop like nothing I've ever seen. It's a whole level beyond the 50 / 1.4 ASP, which is my next favorite.

[Black] This is the most expensive lens I ever bought so far, but this is also the best 50mm lens I ever used. I am sure that this is the lens for life and you won't feel sorry to buy it now if you can afford it.

[67 mm (Front)] I use Noctilux for low light photography. Having Summilux and Summicron, I was able to perform a test of this lens (of course I refer only to Leica lenses, as nothing in 50 mm can match their performance). Besides of Noctilux being extremely great in low light, it has a great unbroken and dreamy - creamy boken. There is nothing as good as Noctilux. Sometimes you can make a Summilux to match performance of Noctilux (at f/1.4), yet the boken and result is not the same. My recommendation is to keep both Noctilux (for low light and special photography), and Summicron (my choice of a second 50 lense due to a small size), or Summilux. I would never give up Noctilux, and would purchase Leica body(s) at least because of this lense. If your preference is not a dreamy look, but rather a sharp looking photo, then Summilux is a better choice. Noctilux produces very nice old-look unique images. The size is not an issue, as it balances very well with Leica light-weighted body. You will never miss a shot with Noctilux, as flash is not needed, and with Noctilux expectations of creamy unique images are more important than sharp digital-looking photos. Absolutely amazing lens and best performer for low light photography.

[Black] This is an expensive lens. Having said that, its quality is appealing to the senses and there is a feeling of being connected to the photographic experience which is primal and hard to explain. It is tack sharp and fast with a razor thin depth of field when it is wide open, so it can be a little difficult to focus. There is something to the Leica experience and this lens is a pleasure to use.

[Leica M] If your style is bokehlicious, this is the lens for you. The super creamy bokeh is too die for. Not the sharpest lens when shot wide open, but the dreamy bokeh more than makes up for it. It is a challenge to nail the focus at f/0.95, so take a series of shots just in case. Also, make sure you get a neutral density filter if you want to shoot wide open in mid day. Attached is a photo shot wide open at f/0.95 in a backlit situation.

[32°] This lens allows in so much light at the widest aperture that it blows my mind. I can’t imagine using any other 50 mm in low light conditions. In normal daylight conditions, I found myself increasing shutter speed to 1/2000 just because of how much light is let in. This is a very fun lens to play with. Great contrast and super sharp. Well worth the wait. Now if we could just get in the 75mm Noctilux.
