The Onyx Half Bi-Color 3-Point LED Light Kitfrom Onyx Half Bi-Color 3-Point LED Light Kithas an output of roughly 250W at full power, yet draws only 30W. It is a bi-color light that enables you to adjust the color temperature of the fixture's output from 3200 to 5600K and features a CRI of 95 and TLCI of 96 in both Tungsten and Daylight. Power on/off, dimming, and color temperature are controlled from the back of the fixture via four buttons. A two-digit LED screen is shared for dimming and color temp, with an indicator light informing you of which characteristic you are controlling.

The fixture requires two L-series batteries, and ships with two batteries that are the equivalent of a 550 L-series battery and a dual battery charger. You can also power the fixture from an optional AC power supply that outputs 13 to 17 VDC. The built-in diffusion helps prevent the effect of multiple cast shadows that afflict some LED array-type lights. A built-in 1/4"-20 threaded mounting hole, and the included cold shoe adapter enable mounting the fixture on your camera. Also included are a removable handle and removable light stand adapter, which mount via the 1/4"-20 threaded mounting hole.

On the back of the fixture are four buttons:

M - select

The M button enables switching between dimming and color temperature. An LED indicator lights up to indicate which characteristic of the fixture you are controlling. A two digit display screen indicates dimming from 10 to 99% and color temperature from 32 to 56.

The fixture has two slots for L-Series type batteries, as well as a coaxial port for power from an optional AC adapter. When powering from batteries, you must use two batteries to power the fixture, it does not work with only one battery.

A: It does include a plastic piece that goes in front of the lights to help diffuse a little, but better off with a soft box for led lights. B&H sells for $30

A: Unfortunately, the manufacturer only supplies a lux rating for these panels. At 2 ft and 5600K, the light would give you 3626 lux while in 3200K it will give you 2797 lux at the same distance.

Im currently using Rifa lights or beat up Fluorescents, but I need something quicker and with temp control; would an Onyx Half by 1 and 1x1, be sufficient for a typical indoor interview in an office or home? I have other lights to embellish (hair, background) and would like to add a 2x1 in the near future, but for now, I wanted to know if the Onyx lights would do the trick. Thanks so much.

A: I have two of these and they are great! I wouldn't rely on one as a key light though. I would go for the Onyx 1x1 or something similar. One half x 1 can work as a key if you're not battleing any ambient light or windows. I have used two halfx1's through a silk as a key, but one is just not enough.

[Passive] I couldn’t decide between this and the smaller Onyx light kit.� I am glad I went with these lights as their size and brightness have already saved me a few times with my setups on multiple shoots. I like the aluminum construction of the light. I also like the Sony v-mount battery mounts because we have quite a few IDX laying around. The kit has everything we need to do the job. 5

[LCD] I purchased two of these lights and they are fantastic. Very portable, plenty bright, and they have great battery life. Can't beat this light at this price point. An added bonus is the power adapters have very long cables. All in all, I am very pleased with these lights. 5

[3200 to 5600K] I've been shopping for a while for an affordable LED light to use for interviews. A salesman at B&H recommended this light and I've been very impressed. It's much brighter than I expected and I love the ability to dial in the exact brightness and color temperature that I want. Plus, it comes with barn doors, batteries and a charger. 5

[3200 to 5600K] I found these the best bang for buck for my kind of shooting. I do a lot of corporate office shoots and these came in handy to just throw up in under 15 minutes. The light quality is good, as is the ability to match colour temperatures. The bag is large but really is meant to hold 3 heads so I see why. They aren't the brightest lights compared to an Aperture 120D but then again I'm getting two lights for the price of one 120D so there is that. The stands fold nice and compact and are just a hair short of where I would want them to be on occasion. That is a fair trade-off for portability. All in all, I like these lights and would buy again. 5

[3.015 lb] Our shoot crew was looking for an interview lighting kit that was portable, self contained, well constructed with control of the level and color temperature. The ikon Onyx kit met all those expectations. Each fixture comes in it's own, very nice, carry, case with proper storage. The three stands function well and compliment the LED fixtures. The travel/storage case that can hold the three fixtures is just OK and putting three fixtures in it makes for a heavy case. Just as easy to transport the fixtures in their individual cases. A great kit and would purchase again. 5

[30 W ] The large 2 x 1 Onyx kit is really the only light kit I need for all my shoots.� Since this kit comes with three 2 x 1 LED lights it gives me so much power for the price.� The remote control was a bit big but it allows me to control each light and turn them on from all over the place. Also, the v-mount plates allow me to use my batteries that we have to put the lights up anywhere I need them. 5

[13 to 17 VDC] These are a huge improvement over our Ikan iLed 312s. They are great, but in smaller settings where you aren't fighting light. The Onyx kit is great, plenty of light for interviews, and they can work outside! They're no HMI, but they throw more light than other LED lights we've used. Battery life is pretty good with the supplied batteries - about 50% down with about 75 minutes of full power on time. The Presto soft boxes are nice touch and soften the light well. They're harder to fold up than your bounce panel, but it all fits nicely in the bag. The only drawback is that this is no 'light' kit. Pretty heavy bag, even with the stands in the smaller bag... but it pays off with the quality of the lights. There is no lack of sturdiness in the lights or the stands. 5

[LCD] All in all this light is a solid value. It gives you the option to put out a lot of hard light or add your choice of diffusion levels with your own materials. Bi color makes it flexible and the Sony type batteries make powering it affordable. Two of the larger bats will run it about a half a day if you turn it off when not needed. 5
