The Sirui A1205 Carbon Fiber Tripod Y-11 Ball Headfrom Sirui A1205 Carbon Fiber Tripod Y-11 Ball Headis a 5-section tripod that weighs 3.2 lb. The 8x carbon fiber legs fold a full 180° in reverse to make it a compact 14.6". With the center column fully extended, the tripod can reach a maximum working height of 55.1". Additionally, with a load capacity of 22 lb, this tripod is suitable for a pro DSLR with a large telephoto lens.

The hook at the bottom of the center column enables you to hang a small sandbag or camera bag to stabilize the tripod. Plus, variable leg-angles allow the tripod to have a minimum height of 10.2", and the center column is also reversible to let you get even closer to the ground. Sometimes a tripod is not allowed in certain areas because space is limited. That is when a useful feature comes into play–the tripod's leg detaches and converts into a monopod. You can increase the height of this monopod by attaching the center column to it.

The included Y-11 Ball Head is Arca-type compatible and comes equipped with a quick release plate. It also has a knob-style lock for the clamp, and two separate knobs control the movement of the ball and 360° panning base. In addition, with the ball head's single-cut notch, the camera can be placed in a 90° angle.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this be a good tripod for a Nikon D750 + Tamron 15-30mm G2? Approx 1960g. I do mainly (like 99.99%) vertical shots.

A: Yes and No. Tripod legs will hold fine, but not the head. Get a better tripod head like the K-20 II or K-30 II, and pair it with a L Bracket for vertical shots.

Q: 2. Can I switch the ball head to the K-20X?

A: It is packaged with the Y-11 head. The head is removable & A K-20 will fit. If you don't already own a K-20, why not try it with the Y-11 first. It may be just what you need.

Q: 3. What is the total weight of the tripod and the ball head?

A: Mine weighed in at 3.01 lbs. The description is misleading as it implies that the system only weighs 2.2 lbs. Even the legs alone weighed 2.4 lbs. The ball head weighed about 0.6 lbs.

Q: 4. if legs = 28 oz and head = 7.2 oz where is weight of the center column? Does the 28 oz value include center column?

A: The center column is a part of the tripod, so its weight is included in the tripod weight.

Q: 5. can a gimble head be attached to this tripod?

A: Yes a gimbal head can be attached to this tripod.

Q: 6. Could anyone please confirm the statement I got from the review of other source of this product "My tripod came apart while in use. The threads holding the ballhead mounting plate to the tripod are made of plastic, and they pulled apart.?

A: The threads holding the qr clamp are metal as well as the bottom threads of the ball head.

Q: 7. would like to attach 3/8 threaded fluid head (Manfrotto), will this work?

A: Yes, I did it with the Befree Live video head and it worked great.

Q: 8. Would you recommend this tripod for long-exposure photography using a Nikon D500 with either a 70-200mm Nikkor or a 150-600mm Tamron?

A: Max load is one thing and resistance to vibration and torsion caused by wind and other factors is another. High end tripod manufacturers like Gitzo will tell you that their series 1 traveler tripod is recommended for up to 100mm, max 200mm focal lengths... I think you need something heftier for long exposures in the focal ranges you are mentioning.

Q: 9. Does the head mounting area on this tripod have set screws to insure the head does not loosen in use?

A: Yes, Sirui R2204 Carbon Fiber Tripod has one safety screw on the center column base mount.

Q: 10. Can the center column be removed and the head attached directly to the apex of the legs? This tripod has a 2-section center column. Can the top section of the center column be removed and the head attached to the bottom section of the center column?

A: Unfortunately not. This is not a systematic tripod and will not allow for the head to mount directly to the legs.

[3.65 lb] I'm using this tri/mono-pod with a Nikon D500 and Nikon 80-400 lens. Using published data, this setup is approx 5.5lbs. The legs are very sturdy. Expect to tighten the ball head really tight to eliminate all droop. Or else aim a little high and account for the droop. The trade off is that this is a very light travel travel tripod that converts to a monopod at a very reasonable price.

[Carbon Fiber] Strong, versatile, and compact. Will be a great tripod for hiking and backpacking. This is a replacement for my MeFoto tripod which finally wore out.

[Ball Head] I bought this to replace my monopod that I use on a daily basis with my canon 5d mark iv and 70-200 f4 lens. The first thing I did was replace the ballhead with the one that I originally had on my monopod as it is an upgrade that I already owned. The ballhead that came with it was definitely not ideal my camera/lens.

This tripod does the trick in terms of being still when you need it to but I would not call it sturdy unless you are using a very small camera.

As I said, I typically will use it this more like a monopod than as a sturdy tripod to begin with. I have a few solid 20 year old tripods laying around my studio. I never take them out with me because they are way too heavy. I shoot lots of family portraits and chase lots of kids around in parks... This tripod is a bit cumbersome as a monopod, meaning using the tripod with all the legs in their closed position but it is still better than shooting without a monopod. I know I can take off one leg and convert it to be a monopod... but what I found to be the best so far for me is to have the 3 legs extended only about 4 out from the center so I have a very tippy tripod. I never let go of my camera while I am shooting so I am not worried that it will fall over while I use it in a barely open stance.
I intend to make some kind of donut that may somehow attach to the lower center column and stop the legs from coming in too far when they are in their fully closed position.

The biggest problem I have is that this tripod when fully lengthened is not tall enough for me so I will likely go back to using my taller monopod for some sessions.

I gave this 5 stars based on the fact that if I were to use it for the weight of the camera it was intended for it would be great. Also considering how compact and light it is, it really makes it so easy to bring it along on any outing.

[3.65 lb] I was looking for a light-weight photography (ballhead) tripod. Something that was carbon fiber. This checked all the boxes. I take it everywhere with me. Lately, I've even been taking it to video shoots.

[Twist Lock] Excellent travel tripod. This tripod has a fantastic build quality. Legs slide in and out smoothly, and lock down with ease. I can lean onto this thing and it doesn't budge. It has a few nice features you don't see often: foam padding on all 3 legs, level at the base of the centre column, and a legitimately good little ball head! It is very quick to switch to the monopod, as the centre column just screws directly onto the detachable leg. Paired very well with the Befree Live video head. Note that the centre column is aluminium, which was the only surprise, but at 2.2lbs (without the head), it's still one of the lighter options around.

[Ball Head] Sirui A1205 is a curious tripod in the line up. The 5 section tripod collapses to 22 inches and weights barely 2.3 lbs with head attached. For all intent and purpose, this item is more comparable to Sirui's travel series T-1205X which sells for about the same price without head. The differences here is the center column is made of metal for A1205 and it comes only with a really cheap nylon bag as opposed to the padded bag. A1205 handles my A7-II with 70-300 FE lens with confidences and ball head opearation is smooth and price. The craftsmen ship is high quality and legs are made from 8x carbon fiber. The tripod is ideal for travel with a smaller mirrorless setup. I wish the center column is also made of fiber and legs are spiked, but at this price, I can't complain. This tripod doesn't seem to be widely reviewed but should deserve your attention.

[5] Compacted, light weight from travel or hiking, good height for a travel tri-pod, optional monopod. With My Nikon 750 with a 200-500 lens and extender it handles the weight but the balance at heights are worrisome to leave standing alone, but again I bought it for travel which I’m very pleased.

[Carbon Fiber] Using a backpack to carry video equipment 24 lbs along with Sirui A1205 Tripod at 2.2 lbs it is perfect. As a solo videographer I choose Sirui because of the versatility and can support 22 lbs. Mounting a Ronin S, LUMIX GH5, and PANASONIC LEICA LUMIX 12-60MM F/2.8-4 on Sirui exceeds my requirements.

[Ball Head] I stopped in B&H to purchase a lightweight tripod for travel. In fact I was planning on using it the same day on The High Line, just a few blocks from B&H. It took a while to talk to a salesman, but it was worth the wait.
I arrived in NYC via train and had to walk to the places I wanted to see.
It was easily transportable with the included sling bag. It includes an Arca Swiss type quick release perfect for my needs.
It is rated for 22 pounds, more than any of my gear combinations.
I like that it can be converted to a monopod, and it includes a weight hook.
My only complaint: it won't fit in the tripod leg pouch on my camera backpack. That's not really an issue because of the included bag.
