The Rycote Stereo Cyclone MS Kit 3 for Sennheiser MKH 8060is a windshield system offering acoustically transparent protection for location sound mixers and recordists using a mid-side array of Sennheiser MKH 8060 and Ambient Emesser microphones in broadcast TV, film, video, and game audio production. It features an enhanced Connbox design with no straight or parallel surfaces to reduce room tone and resonance. Its Lyre mic suspension and Floating Basket Suspension improve vibration isolation and minimize handling noise.

The 3D-Tex material delivers significant attenuation of wind noise while being easy to clean. Further contributing to the system's low maintenance is the magnetic locking design, which allows one-handed opening and closure. The XLR3F and TA3F inputs match the connectivity of your Sennheiser MKH 8060 and Ambient Emesser microphones, and the XLR 5-pin output contributes to effective cable management. Boompole compatibility is offered via a brass 3/8" UNC female thread.

Each Stereo Cyclone windshield is individually hand-built in the Rycote factory in Stroud. This very specialized manufacturing process is carried out by a highly skilled Rycote technician and takes many hours to complete.

Designed specifically for internal cable routing, isolation, and vibration reduction, each Connbox has been optimized for specific stereo and multichannel microphone configurations. Every wire and connector has been precisely measured to offer maximum performance.

Rycote uses its industry-leading Lyre microphone suspension to reduce the bulk of shock and handling noise. The Stereo Cyclone also features the Rycote Floating Basket Suspension: an innovative design that prevents natural resonances and vibrations from bypassing the main suspension and radiating from the structure of the basket itself.

The Lyre principle is incorporated into the portions of the suspension that connect directly to the basket; the entire structure "floats", isolating problematic internal vibrations originating from boompoles and other sources.

Stereo configurations are particularly susceptible to the effects of acoustic re-radiation, since more microphones point at the overall surface of the basket. The incorporation of the Floating Basket Suspension results in a windshield with superb vibration isolation.

An open-cell structure consisting of curved contours and no straight or parallel surfaces greatly reduces room-tone effects inherent in conventional tubular windshield designs. The physical design shifts the overall bulk to the basket front. The aerodynamically efficient asymmetric basket covered with 3D-Tex material provides enormous benefits in terms of surface turbulence and acoustic impedance, resulting in wind-noise reduction comparable to the combined modular-style windshield/fur cover performance. In truly extreme weather conditions, a Cyclone Windjammer (available separately) can be used to deliver superior wind-noise reduction.

The windshield can be removed from or attached to the suspension in an instant using just one hand, allowing audio professionals to capture the best possible audio at any moment in any environment. This is the unique benefit of Rycote's Z-Locking System. Reassembly is automatic as components magnetically snap into perfect alignment.

Location sound mixers require equipment that will not only withstand extreme conditions, but also maintain consistent performance. Maintenance is often a time-consuming, yet necessary evil. The Stereo Cyclone's 3D-Tex was developed for both outstanding performance and ease of maintenance. Dust it off after mild use or rinse and air dry after heavy use to maintain outstanding, transparent, and consistent performance for years of faithful use.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this fit the Schoeps CMC641?

A: It will be a bit long but yes, it will fit.

Q: 2. Will this work with the MixPre-10 II?

A: Yes, the Sennheiser MKH 8060 Moisture-Resistant Short Shotgun Microphone is a great mic choice to pair with use of the Sound Devices MixPre-10 II 10-Channel / 12-Track Multitrack 32-Bit Field Recorder.

Q: 3. Will this Windshield fit the Sennheiser MKH 8060?

A: The Rycote 010324 Windshield Kit for Sennheiser MKH 416 and Select Shotgun Microphones is intended for use with microphones that are approximately 10" long and the Sennheiser MKH 8060 Short Shotgun Microphone is just 7" long. You should be able to use the 010324 Windshield together with the MKH 8060,

Q: 4. Will the WJ-4 fur fit over this shield or is it a different fur windjammer system?

A: The designated windjammer for the Rycote Cyclone Windshield Kit (Medium) is the manufacturer part # 29102; B&H# RYCWJM.

Q: 5. How well does this work mounted to an FS7? Any suggestions on mounting without using the FS7 standard mic holder.

A: Depends on your expectations. Any on-camera mic is no substitute for a boom and/or cavalier mic queued to the speaker/talent.

Q: 6. this blimp has enough room inside for the ambient emesser 308?

A: As the Ambient Recording Emesser ATE308 Figure-8 Microphone is quite small in its form factor, the Rycote Windshield Kit for Sennheiser MKH 416 and Select Shotgun Microphones would provide more than enough room to house it within.

Q: 7. Does the windjammer come with the old drawstring or the new elastic band?

A: In March 2020, it uses the new elastic band.

Q: 8. Would I be able to put put the Rycote pistol grip on this blimp?

[3/8"-16 Female] My Business is Location Audio Mixing. I use Sennheiser 416 short shotgun mics with The Rycote Windshield. This system always delivers 100% of the time. I've used it in Hotel Rooms, Factories and in the Field. I always get perfect audio

[2.63 lb] For the past 4 years, Ive used all Rode gear, especially the NTG3, which I grew to love. Then, on a recent shoot for a client, it stopped working. I got it fixed and it remains an important part of my arsenal, but the experience made me think about an upgrade, and then using the NTG3 as a backup.

It was a very difficult decision to make, since, for whatever reason, its way easier to justify the purchase of a 2k lens than it is a higher end microphone. Weird. Finally though, after a lot of deliberation and tests, and I got the 8060. The main word that comes to mind after using this on a few shoots is: Wow. Its small, light, and draws very little attention to itself. Its far shorter than the NTG3. And this mic makes dialogue sound like you were actually there when you re-listen to the footage. Its hard to believe. There are a lot of times now where I dont bother using a lav at all since I know this mic will capture exactly what I want. What Im getting at is that, as much as I liked the NTG3, the 8060 blows it out of the water. Theres no comparison. As a one person crew a lot of times operating in dangerous locations around the world, its important to keep a low profile, while also capturing the best audio possible under difficult circumstances. If thats what youre looking for, look no further. This mic will seriously change the way you think about, and plan for audio on shoots. Dont get me wrong, a good lav does wonders in a lot of situations as well, but I found this mic to be ultra clear, and perfect for my purposes. It was also amazing for ambient pickup, and slightly off axis pick when people are having a conversation.

If youre on the fence about this, two words of advice: dont be. Its maybe the greatest equipment purchase Ive made in the last 4 years.

[3/8"-16 Female] I got the redesigned version of the mic(where Sennheiser fixed the earlier issue of intermittent static noise, see JWSound for more). PROS: 1. Excellent clarity of recordings, decent bass response. Unlike MKH8040, it does not go too low to create rumble problems. It also has a presence boost to help distant recordings. 2. Very portable for a shotgun mic, especially inside a cinela pianissimo windshield. ( This, being a shotgun mic, is definitely more wind sensitive than my Rode NT55.I found that fur cover for pianissimo IS NECESSARY when recording faint distant sounds even in a light windy day. Low cut filters help too ) 3. Very sensitive (66mV/Pa!) with low self noise. Might be ideal for bird-call recordings, as it has reasonably good reach. CONS: I'd be happier if the mic had an inbuilt pad/ higher max SPL ratings for loud situations. So far I'm using external pad and Y-cable with my MixPre-D to get around that.

[2.63 lb] Works as advertised, using this in the Colorado back country with occasional high winds and the audio is almost perfect, not quite, but a huge improvement over just using a dead cat.

[3/8"-16 Female] Well, what can you say? Best mic with the 416; they are actually very close: this has a light lesser range but it's also more portable.

Audio is terrific!

[3/8"-16 Female] I bought this back in early 2015 and it has NEVER let me down! So forgiving on your subject being a little off-axis! I used this mic up in the mountains where it was dead silent and that's where it REALLY shined!

[3/8"-16 Female] Having had my eye (and ears) on this mic for some time, I recently made the plunge--wow, I'm impressed. This is one great mic! I'd heard that it is very sensitive and it is absolutely true. I had to turn down the gain way more than expected. And the noise floor--it is way low. Needless to say, I'm impressed and happy with the purchase. Great mic, Sennheiser.
