The 40.5mm Tiffen 47 Blue Filter 40.5mmfrom Tiffen 47 Blue Filter 40.5mmis a filter designed to build contrast in black and white photography and creating separation between the tones. For landscape photography the filter will enhance haze and fog, which creates a more dramatic look. Skin tones are lightened for more detail and contrast control. Normally, the filter is intended for B&W photography, but can also be used in color photography to make special effects. The filter has a filter factor of 4.5, so you must increase by 2 1/3 of a stop for your exposure to compensate.

Tiffen filters are not dyed, but are manufactured by using ColorCore technology. This process laminates the filter material between two pieces of optical glass and grinding down and polishing the glass. The glass is finally mounted to the metal ring, which could finally be screwed onto the lens for the desired effect.

A: The Tiffen 4 x 5.65" Blue 4 Hard Edge Graduated Filter is not an ND filter; it changes the color of half the image. The different numbers give you different intensities of blue.

A: The Nisi 100 filter holder is designed for 2mm thick filters. Tiffen MPTV filters are 4mm thick which allows the filter "effect" to be laminated in between two pieces of glass. This prevents the "effect" from being scratched and also makes the filter more durable. To hold our 4x4 or 4x5.65 MPTV filters you can use the Tiffen Pro100 filter holder.

A: The Tiffen 77mm UV 17 Filter is an updated version of the UV 15 filter. The Tiffen 77mm UV 17 Filter absorbs 97% of ultraviolet light, while the Tiffen 77mm UV 15 Filter absorbs 81% of ultraviolet light.

Q: 9. Will 680nm to 800nm work well on a Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera? I used a 750nm IR cut and it still produced a very red image. Possibly thinking the BMPCC is more sensitive to light on the lower end (680nm) so was thinking about checking this filter out. Any info?

[40.5 mm] You see the picture and think, why is it purple? Buy with confidence because it is not purple. It's super blue. Deep blue, to be precise. When you hold it up to your eye to the light, you'll see it's clearly blue. 5

[0.09 lb] This is exactly what you would expect... a thin, gelatin filter that is extremely fragile. I wouldn't recommend any gelatin filter if it is going to be exposed to the elements... too fragile. Wratten filters are engineered with very high qc standards and are recognized as such by the fact that many scientific laboratories utilize Wratten filters for their optical equipment. If you have a need for a filter that passes or restricts specific frequencies, I would suggest purchasing a Kodak filter guidebook so you know exactly which filters will satisfy your needs, and then buying the corresponding Wratten filter. If you don't have such exacting needs, you may be better off going with a filter system such as Cokin, where they will be slightly more durable. 5
