The Wimberley Replacement Foot for Canon 400mm & 600mm Lensesfrom Wimberley Replacement Foot for Canon 400mm & 600mm Lensesis an Arca-type compatible, black anodized 6061 aluminum foot with a double-dovetail mount for accessories that can attach to the top as well as to the bottom of the foot. Compared to the foot originally supplied with the lens, the lower profile of this lightweight and durable replacement foot lends for better balance when mounted atop a tripod head. The lower profile also reduces flex and vibrations when in use. Furthermore, 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 sockets have been provided for tripod heads that do not have a compatible Arca-type clamp. Dual safety stops are included to prevent accidental sliding of the lens if a clamp is partially open.

A: It is not less rigid. They are about the same.Using the shorter one gives you a better center of gravity and some prefer that for such a large lens.But either one will work.

[Aluminum] The tripod / monopod foot on newly released Canon RF 100-300mm F2.8 lens is not compatable with any dovetailed clamp. I replaced the OEM foot with the Wimberley, which was a perfect snug fit onto the lens. I also have this replacement lens foot on my 200-400mm and 600mm Canon lenses. 5

[0.5 lb] I got this to replace the RRS foot that replaced the stock Canon unit on my EF 600mm f4L IS II. It is substantial better than either previous foot. I really like the height. 5

[Aluminum] I purchased a used EF600 ii lens and used a quick release Benro foot to attach the lens to the tripod. As hard as tried, I could never get the plate to stay firmly attached to the Canon foot that comes with the lens. 11 pounds plus of camera and lens was just too much. Ordered this foot and it has worked like a champ. Took less than five minutes to remove the old and replace with the new foot. 5

[0.5 lb] This is a mixed bag for me. As far as the function of attaching the lens to a means of support, I give this a 10. It is an excellent height. It is as low as it can be and still be used as a handle to carry the lens. However it isn't the most comfortable handle to carry just under 9 pounds of lens (Canon EF 600mm f4l is ii). The edges are very square and not rounded. I am considering epoxying a piece of shaped plastic for carrying comfort. Overall I like it. 5
