The Miller CX8 Fluid Head Solo 75 2-Stage Tripod Systemis designed to accommodate a wide payload range with 16 steps of counterbalance. Pan, tilt, and counterbalance can all be set to zero, enabling even the lightest of cameras to be supported. Maxed out, this head is rated to support camera setups up to 26.4 pounds, suitable for small cinema cameras with rigs or medium sized ENG camcorders. Securing your camera or rig is easy. The sideload plate design enables you to simply drop in your camera without the alignment issues posed by rear-loading variations. The plate offers 2.4" of sliding range to balance your rig.

To survive fast-paced shooting environments, the CX8 is die-cast from a lightweight, yet durable metal alloy with composite polymers and precision ball-bearings for smooth mechanical operation. Even in harsh conditions, the CX8 will perform reliably. The base of the CX8 is a 75 ball for mounting to compatible tripods and grip equipment. An illuminated bubble level makes it easy to level the CX8 in dark environments. A pan handle with a 15.4" fixed length is included and a second rosette is incorporated for attaching an optional second pan handle.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Has anyone checked the tripod/bag under the plane before? Is it a padded bag?

A: The case is padded, but I wouldn't trust checking it in by itself. If you remove the head from the sticks, they will fit comfortably in a large duffle bag. Then you'll still have room for extra gear :)

Q: 2. Does the tripod work with Canon 5D Mark III?

A: yes

Q: 3. Do sachtler/manfrotto QR plates work with this head?

A: We're afraid not. This is compatible with Miller plates like BH #MI24CP. https://bhpho.to/2LTojyE

Q: 4. Is this the same head that comes with the Miller Air Carbon Fiber Tripod System?

A: Yes, the Miller Air Fluid Head B&H # MI1042 MFR # 1042 comes with the Miller Air Carbon Fiber Tripod System B&H # MI3005.

Q: 5. Are there other accessory mounting options besides using the Miller Air Accessory Mounting Block on the Miller Air Carbon Fiber Tripod?

A: At this time the the Miller Air Accessory Mounting Block is the only known accessory that can be attached. The size of the attachment screw is not known; probably it is a metric size. You can consider articulating arms with a clamp. Here is one suggestion: GyroVu Adjustable Clamp with Heavy Duty 11 Articulated Arm Monitor Mount B&H # GYGVCM11H Note: it is special order.

Q: 6. Greetings. What is the difference between the new CX6 fluid head and the old CX6 fluid head?

A: Unfortunately, the new version has yet to be available to us and no explicit specifications have been provided at this time by the manufacturer, thus we recommend posing your inquiry directly to Miller for an expedited and accurate response: https://bit.ly/35gWVo8

Q: 7. Where can I find replacement rubber feet for this tripod?

A: Unfortunately, we do not currently carry rubber feet for this particular model. We would recommend posing your inquiry directly to the manufacturer: https://bit.ly/35gWVo8

Q: 8. Can you tell me the weight please?

A: 2.5kg (5.5lbs)

Q: 9. Is this suitable for canon c100 mark ii with shotgun mic, cinevate duzi v4, and canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM Lens, and yes for long term ?

A: This Tripod has a load capacity between 4.4 to 11 Pounds. The combination of items you listed will be pushing that load capacity. I recommend the Miller SOLO DV 20 instead, B&H # MIDS20SDV2, which has a load capacity up to 22 pounds. It will better be able to handle the items you listed and it is a great long term investment.https://bhpho.to/2AnvSJo

Q: 10. Please let me know which Miller tripod case comes with this tripod Miller Air Carbon Fiber Tripod System B&H # MI3005 MFR # 3005I don't see a link. Also, on Miller Sticks I have a Sachtler DV6 head. I measured about 33 from the head to the feet. I'm guessing a 35 tripod case would be fine. That's why I would like ton know which Miller tripod case this is? I have the same Miller Sticks as I mentioned above. Thank you Jimmy

A: For future reference, please look under the Accessories tab for Bags & Cases. Of the seven we offer, I would suggest these based on economy to best choice to luxury. For budget: Ruggard Deluxe Padded 35 Tripod Case (Black) B&H # RUBD3035. For rugged airplane travel: SKB Roto-Molded Tripod Case with Wheels (37 Tall) B&H # SK1SKBR3709W For luxury: Porta Brace TLQB-39XT Quick Tripod/Light Case (Black) B&H # POTLQB39XT.

[Yes] Buttery smooth pan and tilt and the ability to precisely dial in the counterbalance makes this a unique and excellent head. I have had mine for about 2 years and love it.

[75 mm Half Ball] This head is fantastic! It is replacing a 25 year old Vinten Vision 5. While I have loved the Vinten, the infinite adjustable friction has worn out. I love the gears in this one and the 16 step counter balance. Also the Vinten heads only have a range for which they can be counter balanced, like 7 pounds to 14 pounds. This guy can go all the way from zero to 26.4 pounds. That means I can use a heavy camera or a DSLR and still balance the weight. Excellent design!

[8 lb] Been using Manfrotto heads for far too long. I have always known that I needed to upgrade from my reliance on Manfrotto. I am glad did! This head from Miller is a night and day difference for me. So much better in every way. Lighted bubble head, counter balance, and extremely smooth drag and pan. It's so good!

[+90° to -75°] This is by far the best tripod I have ever used. Extremely well built and without any kinks in the pan/tilt action. Thank you for the people at Miller for assembling such a wonderful system. Absolutely no complaints and 110% worth the investment

[75 mm Half Ball] Have been a long time Bogen user looking for a good lightweight versatile tripod system. After seeing the DV20 in action at a videographers convention i was sold. Its rock solid even though I was used to a mid-level spreader. My first assignment was shooting a modeling segment and I loved the fact that I could get so low to the ground with this tripod.

[8 lb] I've been using Miller solo legs with a older compass head for years. This is a great upgrade. I love the addition of hash marks and numbers on the legs. Much easier to see that the legs are even, or to recreate the height at a later date. I love the added counterbalance options of the CX8 head. This thing is solid and well build and made for heavy use.

[75 mm Half Ball] Purchased in Feb 2022 with the Solo Q 100mm sticks. My previous tripod was a Vinten 5LF. I loved the Vinten, but with lighter cameras I no longer needed a head that could hold 40 lbs or more. The CX10 holds from 0 to 26 pounds and the 16 steps of counter balance and 5 levels of friction in both directions make for the perfect tool. I use both a Canon cinema camera and a Canon ENG camera on this tripod. No matter which camera or lens, I get remarkably smooth moves. And the CX10 / SoloQ is very light, about 10 pounds. My old Vinten was 16 to 18 pounds at least. The Carbon fiber legs are stiff and rigid. A wonderful purchase.

[Yes] As my cameras got bigger, I had to upgrade my fluid head from really old Manfrotto. I first tried the Miller Air fluid head, but found it did not have the range or resolution for counterbalance adjustment I was looking for. The CX10 is substantially more expensive, but the 16-steps of counterbalance and 5 steps of drag adjustment are just perfect for me. The counterbalance setup is simple: set drag to zero, slide the camera-plate forward/backward to locate the center of mass, then increase the counterbalance to get the best balance over the range planned for the shot. Finally bring-up the drag to get the feel you want.

Some reviews of the CX series complain they can not get perfect balance, and experience kick-back and drift at the tails of tilts or pans (especially when using long lenses where the effect is amplified). But I have found that a combination of proper balance setting, higher drag, and user technique can give me perfect starts and stops with zero kick-back. One of the keys is to use a high drag setting and a firm had to initiate the tilt/pan. Then ease-up to the stopping point, and just hold briefly for a second before releasing the handle. This works perfectly for me every time. And by the way, poor tripod torsional stiffness can make even a perfect fluid head appear to have pan-axis kickback, but in reality it is the tripod legs kicking-back, not the head (mount this on the 26 pound Kessler K-pod tripod, and you will see how perfectly it works with an infinitely-stiff tripod). For typical shooting situations, I mount this on a Manfrotto 536 and it is a great combination.

This head is tremendously sturdy and solid - really well-made with silky-smooth bearings and absolutely zero play in any axis. I also love the size, grip and feel of the pan bar (handle) - it is big and beefy, feels great in the hand. Now that I have it, I wish I had bought a nice fluid head years ago! Miller has done a great job on this one!
