Ultra wide-angle prime designed for full-frame Canon EF-mount DSLRs, this 12mm f/2.8 can also be used with APS-C models where it provides a 19.2mm equivalent focal length.

Bright f/2.8 maximum aperture is well-suited to working in low and difficult lighting conditions.

Rectilinear design renders subjects with minimal distortion in order to suit landscape and architectural applications.

Three extra-low dispersion elements reduce chromatic aberrations and color fringing for increased clarity and color neutrality. Two aspherical elements are also featured to limit spherical aberrations for improved sharpness.

A Frog Eye Coating has been applied to repel both dust and moisture for added protection when working in inclement conditions.

Manual focus design employs a floating optical system to maintain performance throughout the focusing range of 7.09" to infinity.

Built-in petal-shaped lens hood shields the lens from stray light to reduce flare and ghosting and also protects the front elements from accidental impacts.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will the 9 mm Laowa work with the Laowa Magic Shift Converter?

A: The Laowa Magic Shift Converters are lens mount converters. This lens, Venus Optics Laowa 9mm f/2.8 Zero-D Lens for Sony E being an E mount, cannot converted to any other mount.

Q: 2. No support for Nikon Z mounts?

A: This is the new Venus Optics 9mm lens for Z-mount: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1574413-REG/venus_optics_ve956nz_laowa_9mm_f_5_6_ff.html

Q: 3. Could you please suggest any 49mm filter for this lens that gives minimal vignetting at F2.8? (For example, will B+W XS-Pro filter work?)

A: Mostly any slim/thin filter should work. The B+W XS Pro would be ideal.

Q: 4. Is this lens good for astro-photography?

A: Yes, the Venus Optics Laowa 9mm f/2.8 Zero-D Lens for Sony E is both a very good and a very popular lens for astrophotography usage needs.

Q: 5. Is focus peaking available when using this lens?

A: Focus Peaking is a function of the camera, not the lens. If the camera has FP, then you can use it with this lens.

Q: 6. Will this work with the Canon R mirrorless?

A: I'm sorry, no. This is for the Canon cropped sensor mirrorless cameras.

Q: 7. Is MFT version plus MFT-to-SonyE adapter the exactly same as buying Sony E-mount version of the lens? The benefit is dual mount

A: Yes it would be the same if you use this FotodioX Lens Mount Adapter for Micro Four Third Lens to Sony E-Mount Camera https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1250652-REG/fotodiox_mft_nex_micro_four_third_lens.html

Q: 8. will this lense vignette with the BMPCC6k?

A: The Venus Optics Laowa 9mm f/2.8 Zero-D Lens for Canon EF-M is not compatible for use on the Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema Camera 6K. The Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema Camera 6K uses the Canon EF and EF-S lens mount, while the Venus Optics Laowa 9mm f/2.8 Zero-D Lens listed above is designed for the smaller Canon EF-M lens mount. There is no lens mount adapter designed to connect EF-M mount lenses on the larger EF/EF-S lens mount.

Q: 9. Will the Canon EF-M mount work with Metabones EF to Sony E mount and EF to MFT adapters?

A: No. The flange distance will not allow it. You have to use DSLR lenses.

Q: 10. Is this lens also sharp on the new fuji 40mp sensor?

A: The Venus Optics Laowa 9mm f/2.8 Zero-D Lens for FUJIFILM X will deliver a sharp image with good contrast using a camera with a 40MP image sensor.

[Canon EF] Works as advertised. Wide, no barrel distortion (there is *some* distortion but all the lines are straight), wide aperture, solid build. I find this works well on M43 and S35 sensors really well without so much stretching at the edges. Awesome lens and I'm excited to use it more!

[2.1 lb] This lens is a beast. I bought the rf mount lens for my eos r and it gives me that super wide perspective. I do wish the lens flares were slightly cleaner and auto focus would be nice in some situations but it still definitely gets 5 stars from me especially at this price point. If you do any real estate filming this thing will make small rooms look huge with no distortion of door frames and other straight lines.

[Canon EF] I have tested many super wide lenses for Nikon Z mount, and this one performed the best for my astro landscape work. I use it for spherical panoramas, standard panoramas and single photos that include a lot of sky.

I find the focusing to be easy, simply zoom in as far as one can to do critical focus on stars or use a bahtinov mask. The infinity mark on the lens barrel is not 100% accurate, but it isn't on any lens I have ever used, so that is not on Laowa. The humidity levels and temperature can affect that in my experience, so it's not always in the same spot on all my lenses.

The coma is the lowest among the super wide lenses I tested and is nominal at f/4. Since I shoot at ISo 6400, 12,800 and above this is A-OK.

I love it. I enjoy having it in my bag very much.

[Manual Focus] I am a die hard Tamron supporter but I have to admit that I removed my 15-30 every since I received this 12mm. So much smaller and it is expected since it's a prime lens but with my 24-70 Tamron, 70-200 Tamron, 45mm Tamron, 85mm Rokinon Cine Lens, this 12mm is an amazing addition. I would not sell my 15-30 Tamron because that 15 up 24 is a great range but the lens is massive and prefer the much smaller Laowa in my bag or jacket pocket. I would say that the ND claim isn't 100% true. Physics is Physics so their is some distortion but only if you are capturing at a particular angle but straight on shooting, there really isn't any distortion. What I like most about the lens is how close you can get to it and still be in focus. Amazing!!!

[2.1 lb] Been using this item for both photography and video. I can say for a wide angle lens, it does keep a straight line (zero d), but do keep in mind that you still have to frame your shot in accordance to angles.

[f/2.8] I love it! Great for establishing shots. Amazing on a gimbal. Amazing for push in push out shots. Pans are where you see the image bend but as long as you keep that in mind when shooting it’s no big deal.
