Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What polarizer can I use with this that will give me 1) No vignetting and 2) Blue sky will not be uneven (usually on 16mm, blue sky will be thick in middle when using polarizer) ?

A: No polarizer will work because in a wide angle lens the angle of light incidence is beyond the polarizing angle in the corners. Even a huge 6x6 will not stop uneven sky.Its not necessary anyway....skies are evenly darker blue in wide angle lenses...better to use a big graduated filter to bring down the sky brightness to emphasize the foreground detail, and still get beautiful deep sky blue.

Q: 2. how well does this perform in low light?

A: Hi Marjorie, this lens performs very well in low light situations. -Anthony

Q: 3. Which ND filter should I get for this? Planning on using this lens for video.

A: I purchased the filter that came with the lens, but I am not using it. In general I have quit using ND filters and work hard at making sure my lenses are well treated.

Q: 4. Bought the lens and love it - however, I cannot find a number to pin to how many stops of light the stabilization is equivalent to, anyone know?

A: You gain about 3 stops of light.

Q: 5. I have a 72 mm circular polarizing filter and it won't screw onto this lens. It actually seems to be much too small. I thought this lens takes 72mm filters. What is going on?

A: The lens is 72mm and all my 72mm filters fit it including Polarizers. Your Polarizer must be marked incorrectly.

Q: 6. is this the OSS version?

A: Yes, there is no version of this lens that doesnt have OSS.

Q: 7. Does the OSS work well with IBIS for video?

A: Yes, the ibis and lens oss work in tandem and do a great job, the camera primarily takes over but uses both.

Q: 8. Does this lens work with Sony a63000?

A: Yes ... It will work with the alpha 6300 but it was specifically made for full frame e mount cameras ... With the crop factor of the 6300 you will only get 24mm at it's widest point

Q: 9. Do they make a lens hood for this lens?

A: It comes with a hood ... They can also be bought separately, but are extremely expensive, so don't lose it!

Q: 10. does this fit on a SOny fx9?

A: This lens fits on Sony E mount full frame cameras. I have mine on a Sony A7III. I hope this helps.

[Full-Frame] Using my new a7 R iii this lens is super sharp. I needed to go to maximum magnification in photoshop to remove some debris from a model's skin in an outdoor shoot at a waterfall. I was amazed at how the image held focus up to point of pixelization. The image stays sharp to the edges.

[72 mm (Front)] I’ve had this lense for about 2 years. Great Zoom. I highly recommend.

[7.9 x 5 x 3.1"] Got this as a gift. I personally don't like wide angle lenses because they have frequent problems with the picture and performance. However, this lens solves all of that. I currently owned other wide angle lenses(not from Sony) but this lens is the best one I'd had so far. The only flaw that I don't personally like; the focusing wheel and zoom wheel are a bit stiff and hard to use at first. But you get used to it after a while.

[7, Rounded] I recently moved from the A6000 to A7ii full frame. Having owned a number of lenses for APS-C, I was torn in moving to the A7 series whether I should go with primes or zooms. I mainly do landscape photography and I was hesitant to go with this zoom lens over a dedicated prime. I am not a pixel peeper, but I do like to confirm when purchasing a new lens that it’s sharp in center and reasonably sharp on the corners and edges. I likely watched every review and video on this lens. Most reviews spoke very highly of the lens with the only concern being that it tended towards softness at 35mm. This did not concern me as I was mainly looking towards its use from 16-24 (my favorite focal lengths for landscapes). After purchasing the lens, I can see where so many photographers, including landscape pros, carry on about this lens. I have found CA to be quite low even at f/4. 16mm wide open is impressively sharp through the entire frame. Focus is accurate and quick. The lens produces striking sunstars with well managed flare. I also found that 35mm stopped down to f/8 is more than adequate for my needs. The lens body has a high quality feel which is typical for Sony Zeiss lenses, I am quite pleased with this lens and find that  f/4 is not a limitation for my type of photography. I highly recommend this lens.
