Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is the manual focus ring mechanically connected or control by wire?

A: This lens is control by wire.

Q: 2. Can this be used on the A7R III?

A: Yes it can be used on the Sony a7R III BUT since it is made for the smaller Apsc sensor then your images will be cropped down to 18mp. So unless you run into a situation where you only have this lens you are better off with a full frame lens.

Q: 3. I have a Sony A 6400. Will the image stabilization work with the 6400? I read somewhere that some Sony lenses require a 6500 or greater for the lens IS to work.

A: The E 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS Lens would allow for stabilization on the A6400.

Q: 4. Would eye-AF still work with this lens on A7iii? Thanks!

A: Yes.

Q: 5. Besides the focal length, what difference is this lens compared with the kit 16-55 lens? Both have the same Aperture length?

A: Much better glass

Q: 6. Will this lenes work for volleyball pictures

A: That would depend on available light in the arena. In a well lit arena it will probably be fine. If the lighting is low then you may run into issues with slower shutter speeds or noisy pics. For sports you will generally want a fixed aperture lens like a constant f4 or f2.8

Q: 7. I am looking for a compact, lightweight lens to pair with my Sony A7cll for travel. I have the 28-60 lens. Or prime lens?

A: The Sony E 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens with UV Filter Kit is not the best choice for the Sony a7C II Mirrorless Camera. The 18-135mm is for cropped sensor cameras. The Sony FE 28-60mm f/4-5.6 Lens is an excellent compact full-frame lens that is great for traveling.

Q: 8. I am looking for a good travel lense and was considering just a prime, either Sony 35 1.8 or the Sigma 30 1.4. However I am so undecided on which lense to buy if I can only buy 1 lense. Sony 18-135 or the mentioned prime? Thank you

A: I am a weekend warier when it comes to photography. I bought the Sony lens because I did not want to carry two lenses with my A5000. This 18-135 lens does that and produces outstanding photographs. I wish it was a bit smaller and lighter but other than that I can heartily recommend it.

Q: 9. I have a sony a6500. Which of these lenses are best for traveling (better image quality, sharper image, etc) if you can only take one with you? 18-105 / 18-135 or 18-200?

A: The 18-105 is better for video, the 18-200 for reach, but the 18-135 is better for edge to edge clarity and auto focus, and manual zoom is better for still photography.

Q: 10. In what country is this lens manufactured?

A: According to our systems, this lens is manufactured in China.

[APS-C] Build & image quality are excellent. Handling on A6000 series (I use it on my A6700) is perfect. Image stabilization works great to allow low speed hand-held shots. Focus is fast and accurate. This is a perfect everyday, travel & street photography lens.

[f/22 to 36] I can't say there will never be any copy variations as there often are with ALL lenses. But when I received my A6700 kit with this lens I wasn't expecting all that much. I was pleasantly surprised that it was sharp one end to the other. VERY stable with it's OSS built in coupled with the A6700 bodies IBIS. It has no slack and is a very tight build. Even the corners on my copy are darned sharp. I see no real weakness in this lens and will enjoy it's exceptional 27-200 reach.

[76° to 12°] I'm a hobbyist photographer. I've been using Sony E-mounts for about 10 years (NEX-6, a6000, a6600). This lens blows away the old 16-50 kit lens they used to include with a new E-mount camera. I took only this lens and my a6600 on a work trip to California. I wanted to see if it could be used as my only lens for street, architecture and nature photography. The image quality was excellent (I was constantly pixel peeping after each photo or burst of photos).

Will this replace your best prime lenses? Probably not. Is this an excellent all around travel lens? Totally. I'll no longer have anxiety about which lens(es) to bring when I have limited space in my luggage.

[APS-C] I use this lens with my Sony a6400 camera. The photos are extremely sharp, which allows me to do extensive cropping and still have photos that are great. The lens and camera are light enough to carry on long walks without any problem. I highly recommend it.

[Yes] I used to have - and not like - the E-PZ 18-105mm f/4 lens for my FX-30. While it’s great to have constant f/4 and a motorized zoom, its downfall is the absolutely giant minimum focus distance at higher zoom. No such problem with the E 18-135, it can focus super close at any zoom. The variable aperture is no issue as the depth of focus at higher zoom is super shallow anyhow. And then you get the range up to 135mm! If they had a motorized zoom version of this it would be perfect.

[55 mm (Front)] This is the second one I bout. The first one suddenly developed problems with one side getting way out of focus. So I hesitated about getting one again, but it is so nice to work with that I took a chance. I use it mostly on my full frame cameras, in both APS-C and FF modes, depending on the size of files I needed. At full frame, the lens does quite well at the 1:1 aspect ratio.
Yes, it is a big step up from the kit lenses!
