Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. I can only hear the hi and. Not the mid im probably connecting them wrong anyone can help me?

A: The HX-5W is a full range speaker array that features 5 woofers. It is best to use this array with a subwoofer for a fuller sound and to minimize the impact low end frequencies can have on the relatively small 5 woofers. Another possibility is that the woofers are blown out, causing you to hear only mid and high frequencies. It would be advisable to contact TOA Product support at 800-733-4748 (option 2) for warranty claims.

Q: 2. I am looking to use these for a touring country band will they work?

A: The power handling capacity is not suited for a touring band playing live music venues.

Q: 3. we have a live band the like to play loud will these be able to handle it?

A: No!! They start distorting around 95dbc.

Q: 4. You list possible vertical spread angles, but not the horizontal dispersion angle. I am trying to cover a space without the use of a center array. I should be able to do it if the horizontal spread is about 75 or 80 degrees. Will I make it?

A: The Toa Electronics HX-5W Variable Dispersion Array Speaker have a specified horizontal dispersion angle of 100 degrees.

Q: 5. Can these be used in stereo or bridged to mono or would I need two sets?

A: The Toa Electronics HX-5B Variable Dispersion Line Array Speaker use a single SpeakON or M4 terminal input connection and will not produce a stereo signal with a single unit. A pair of HX-5B, one receiving the left channel and the other receiving the right channel, would be required for a true stereo image.

Q: 6. Are 3 sets of these on each side and subs going to overload with a live church band?

A: I don't think you will have any problem with 6 arrays. The Toa Electronics HX-7B are rated at 750W continuous program at 8 Ohms for 1 array.

Q: 7. Do you connect a tuner or cd player to the RCA connectors?

A: Yes, via terminal block or RCA jack.

Q: 8. is the $529 the price for the entire 4 array or each speaker? what is the SPL of each speaker and the entire rig?

A: The HX-5B is sold as shown. The array features 4 angle adjustable units. SPL rating is not provided by the Manufacturer. All available specs provided in the documentation: https://a href= http://static.bhphotovideo.com/lit_files/257736.pdf target= _blank static.bhphotovideo.com/lit_files/257736.pdf/a

Q: 9. Can this sub be paired outdoors with the TOA HX-5W-WP Mini Line Array?

A: The TOA FB-120B 12" 600W Subwoofer can be paired with the TOA HX-5W Variable Dispersion Line Array Speaker, but these speakers are intended indoor use. They are not weather-proof or weather-resistant.

Q: 10. What amp do you recommend for this?

A: If you are running just one sub, you can use the Crown XLi 800 in Bridged Mode, which will deliver 600 watts at 8 Ohms. If you are using two subs, consider the QSC GDX 4, which delivers 600 watts at 8 Ohms per channel. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1100330-REG/qsc_gxd_4_professional_power.html https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1126335-REG/crown_audio_xli800_600w_2_channel_stereo.html

[Fly Bar] I bought this speaker to use with my Fox Pro predator call. It is very loud and clear and still not too heavy or bulky, and fits in my hunting backpack along with my call and decoy fine. it is everything I wanted

[Fly Bar] Hey folks! I Paired this SC-615T paging horn up with a Bogen C60 and one PM660U microphone and this small little system screamed. Level was set at about 5.5 and was used outside for an event. Customer was impressed and I was as well. I would highly recommend this item! [ St Thomas, Pa ] FCL

[Steel] Using in church venue ceiling height 12ft. Running mono system with sub, Speaker is mounted to ceiling 51ft from back wall centered on 60 ft room width. Previous speaker a Renkhas Heinz too loud below and directly in front of speaker, dead spots in back corners of room also high end muffled dropped off significantly to the side. Did a lot of research looking at polar patterns of different speakers and the Toa fit the bill what clinched it was the ability to adjust the dispersion angle of each speaker in the array. Initally was going to mount it horizontal but the dispersion wasn't good so mounted it vertically and by adjusting the speakers the dispersion is great, not too loud in front and underneath, no dead spots in corners, highs are crisp full 180 degrees around room. Also purchased the adjustable ceiling mount.

[Fly Bar] I used this in two challenging installations: 1. A church with an unconventional pentagonal shape - equivalent 60 foot x 60 foot floor area with a vertex facing the altar. They replaced two legacy (REALLY Legacy!) Shure VA300-S speakers. 2. In a 400 seat university auditorium complimented by the TOA subs. The church installation is about 9 years old and is one of the best installations I have done. Teh HX-5s are suspended 12 feet above the stairs to the altar to give audio presence. That was the greatest challenge as there are two condenser mics below and just behind most of the time. I used a horizontal installation of two units to get the spread. I checked the SPL dispersion using TOA's online tool and then verified with their designers. The Auditorium has a similar challenge - installation is 30 feet above the stage and uses 4 of these units installed vertically. The design was checked using EASE. The subs are only switched on for music performances. In both cases, the sound is quite clear, unforced and natural (the priest is well voice trained). I stand to be corrected but the TOA HX-5 forced the competition to re-look line arrays and other speakers with beam control characteristics for installed sound. It is now my second pick behind the more expensive JBL CBT70J-1.

[Steel] Bought for the chorus area of our cavern acoustic church, these speakers were the perfect solution. Sound is uniform and can be heard up to the front. Sound quality is top notch as well as the speakers construction. Built like tanks, will last a long time but they are heavy. We are happy with the results.

[Steel] I also bought this for an external speaker for my FoxPro Spitfire predator call. I have used the call recently and it works great, really raised the volume, exactly what I was looking for. Cheaper than the Foxpro speakers.

[Fly Bar] We are a 200 seat 3/4 thrust theatre and have been trying to remedy our sound for years. OUr seating is very steep so getting an even sound level while still allowing the actors voices to be heard from stage has been a real challenge. These speakers are a perfect fit. We mounted the house left and right speakers vertically to reach up into the higher seats and the center ones horizontally to get the entire center section. The sound is crisp and clear. For the first time we are able to project a true live sound through out our space that soes not take away from the performers.

[Fly Bar] My church installed a pair of these in the congregational area to replace a pair of cheap 2-way 15s. The improvements was (night and day). Vocals are clear and punchy. Highs are natural , not harsh. To totally appreciate the sound of instruments through these speakers you must add the /A sub. Which we soon are going to do soon. Then the sound would be Perfecto .
