This 52mm Tiffen Water White Glass IRND Filter 52mm 6-Stopis a neutral density filter with a 64x filter factor that provides a 6-stop exposure reduction. Its 1.8 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required. By increasing your aperture or slowing your exposure time, you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily. Neutral density filters are intended to not affect the coloration of the image and are ideal for pairing with other filters.

The design of this filter has been optimized for use with digital sensors and to promote nearly flat attenuation of visible light and infrared light. Due to imaging sensors' greater susceptibility to infrared light, compared to traditional film, color casts can occur when photographing darker subjects that require increased exposure times.

This filter is noncoated, is constructed from Water White glass for increased clarity, and features an aluminum-alloy filter ring for durability while remaining lightweight. It is made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between two pieces of optical glass and grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is this compatible with a 40mm lens?

A: It depends on which particular make and model 40mm lens you are inquiring regarding. The underside of the lens cap will feature the lens' cap/filter size and you can check on your lens there. If you're still not sure you may email askbh@a href= http://bhphoto.com target= _blank bhphoto.com/a and indicate your specific lens and we can confirm.

Q: 2. Hi Do you have the B+W series 7 0.9 ND filter?

A: The nearest option would this 2 stop version: https://bhpho.to/3x5JhyN Series size filters are only made for older lenses so the filter selection will be rather limited.

Q: 3. is this ND filter ideal for video use? I plan on using it with a Sony FDR-AX33 4K camera.

A: Actually the newest ND filter by Hoya (the SOLAS filter series) would be more suited for video work:https://a href= http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1285182-REG/hoya_xsl_46irnd09_46mm_solas_0_9_irnd.html target= _blank www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1285182-REG/hoya_xsl_46irnd09_46mm_solas_0_9_irnd.html/a

Q: 4. Can two of the Hoya 49mm Neutral Density (NDX8) 0.9 be stacked for additional density?

A: Yes you could... but I would not. That is extra glass surface to catch light and cause distortion and reflection. If this was an expensive lens with perfect coatings... what I caution you on would not be an issue. I would not.

Q: 5. Is the MRC worth the additional investment? I do have the 10 Stop MRC and 1 single coated 3 stop both are great.

A: There is an improvement. How much is hard to say. Whether or not is worth it, is a subjective question. We do not know your budget, how often you may use it, etc. If you are happy with current results, then perhaps not.

Q: 6. Is this filter too dark to focus / compose with the filter already mounted?

A: It depends of course on the amount of ambient lighting in your shot. My work flow is to focus first, shoot to check focus, exposure, and composition. You really need to see the image properly expose before adding the filter. Then I shoot a few images with various shutter speeds with the filter on. Eventually you will become intuitive about your exposure times.

Q: 7. Would this fit my Nikon 24-70mm lens?

A: There are different version of the Nikon 24-70mm lens. the VR 2.8 and the Z 2.8s versions use these 82mm filters. The first generation 2.8 without VR will use 77mm filters. The 24-70mm F4s uses 72mm fitlers.

Q: 8. Has anyone tried this on the Rokinon/Samyang 12mm? Any issues with fit and/or vignetting?

A: You will probably experience vignetting with this combination, as the HMC filter line are not thin filters.

Q: 9. HelloWould this Filter and the Hoya 52mm Alpha Circular Polarizer Filter work (Compatible) with Panasonic Lumix FZ200?Thank you.Shaun

A: The sizes of both filters are the proper size for the FZ200 and will properly fit it, however Panasonic's instruction for the manual discourages use of two filters on the camera, likely as it will become too darkened for the camera to autofocus with.

Q: 10. what is difference between this and Hoya 77mm NDx400 HMC Filter B&H # HOND400MC77 MFR # A77ND400 (https://a href= http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/155266-REG/Hoya_A77ND400_77_mm_Neutral_Density.html target= _blank www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/155266-REG/Hoya_A77ND400_77_mm_Neutral_Density.html/a) ?

A: The Hoya ND4 only loses two stops of light, while the ND400 loses around 9 stops. The ND400 is a darker density that the ND4.
