Housed in a lightweight, O-ring-sealed composite body, the Brunton Transit M2 Military Compassmilitary-style compass employs a powerful rare earth magnet mounted on a sapphire bearing to give accurate readings quickly. Its bezel bears a 0-6400 MRAD scale, and the M2 can measure vertical angles of ± 90° and grades in 5% increments. Declination is adjustable up to 180°. Look through the sighting window in the precisely aligned mirror to take bearings to landmarks; the transit is equipped with a ball-and-socket tripod mount for the most stable, accurate readings. Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Weight of Case?

A: We show the shipping weight of the Vinten 3355-3 Transit Case as 6lbs.

Q: 2. What are the dimensions of this case?

A: The dimensions are not readily available. However, based on the head's dimensions of 10 x 14 x 14 , I would be of the opinion the case is approximately 16 x 20 x 20.

Q: 3. What is the closest distance it will range to?

A: For the Magnification it is not really determined like this. It is as far as the eye can see 8X Closer to what you are looking at.

Q: 4. Is the needle fluid dampened or induction dampened?

A: This model is a standard liquid dampened.

Q: 5. Will it fit 2x D850 without grips but with 24-70 and 70-200 attached?

A: No, the Domke F-2 RuggedWear Shooter's Bag (Brown) is too small for two Nikon D850 cameras with the 70-200 and a 24-70 attached.

Q: 6. What country is the US Army 8x42 made in? Also I wish you would list or make it easier to find where the different products are made at.

A: According to the information we have, our current inventories Country of Origin is China. Please be aware this can change over the product's production life without notice.

Q: 7. what is the size (dimensions) of the compass?

A: 2.5 x 3.5 x 0.5

Q: 8. It has individual eye focusing, but is it what is commonly referred to as insta-focus, ie always in focus at nearly any distance once each eye is focused?

A: I believe so. Gift for my husband who is very particular. He loves them!!GREAT purchase.Ruth

Q: 9. Will these work in the Southern Hemisphere ?

A: No and I forgot about that the _vertical_ component of the Earth's magnetic field tilts the disc/needle opposite ways in the North and South, so a weight is needed. With a normal compass you can sometimes tilt it to compensate, but with this you can't do that.I lost a huge chunk of cost savings getting it adjusted for Ausie...it cost me IIRC about $120+ at The Aust branch, with post.Nick

Q: 10. Can the case carry the Tripod Head and Tripod for big lens cameras?

A: The case is large and can hold many different size tripods with heads. The case is not padded and is empty. The approximate interior of the case is 40.5 x 13.75 x 12.75 (102.87 x 34.93 x 32.39cm) (LxWxH). If the tripod with the head is smaller than that interior it will fit.

[1°] This is a nice rugged compass, designed for land navigation, etc. It is accurate and has a 1/4-20 threaded socket for mounting to a tripod. Although not a light or compact as a plastic compass, it should last beyond a lifetime. It comes with a lanyard and a nice leather case...Recommended.

[0.85 lb] I got this to hold up my iPad on my desk next to my Apple Computer. It is sturdy and built to last. You can use it standing up the iPad as well as lying near flat for drawing or writing. The best stand I could find after a lot of research. Get it! :)

[0.85 lb] I bought this compass for my husband's birthday. He loved it except for one thing... mRad scale. I didn't look close enough at the description. He asked me to exchange it for a compass with the 0-360 measurements.

[0.5°] I wanted to try out the new rare earth magnetic needle, which is supposed to be more stable, and less effected by near by metals. I haven't had this compass long enough to prove or disprove this claim. The compass housing is classic Brunton design. When closed the lid fully covers the compass base. The lanyard attaches at the lid hinge, which causes a problem laying the compass flat on the map unless the lanyard is tucked into the open space between the hinge and compass base. Sighting a land mark with the mirror is similar to other mirror compass designs. Sighting with the lid laid flat would be enhanced if there was a white sighting line on the inside of the lid below the notch. The needle settles reasonably quickly. When closed the rounded corners give it a nice comfortable feel in the hand. If it doesn't develop a bubble, as some previous Brunton compasses I've owned have done I will be happy with this compass. It also comes wtth 2 Topo Buddy Universal Scale Cards. Sandwiched between heavier stock cards to protect the scale cards. That are riveted at one corner so they can pivot out for use, which is open to permit attachment of a lanyard. The 2 scale cards cover most commonly used scales and also include UTM grid scales. The cards are to large to fit inside the lid, they measure 6.2 cm x 9.1 cm. approximately the size of the compass base.
