Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. I can only hear the hi and. Not the mid im probably connecting them wrong anyone can help me?

A: The HX-5W is a full range speaker array that features 5 woofers. It is best to use this array with a subwoofer for a fuller sound and to minimize the impact low end frequencies can have on the relatively small 5 woofers. Another possibility is that the woofers are blown out, causing you to hear only mid and high frequencies. It would be advisable to contact TOA Product support at 800-733-4748 (option 2) for warranty claims.

Q: 2. Want to replace Bose tall colum speakers with the Toa Array in a old Catholic church app. 160ft throw using a Crown CDI 1000 at 70 volts. will 2 do it or do I need 2 more to carry to the back of the church?

A: Two of these speakers will not carry all the way to 160', you may need two more half way in the church. if you have a layout for the church, please send it over to this e-mail, I will get you a design for the system, also did you think about Subs for the system? naji@nfscom.com

Q: 3. Can you separate the speakers? If I am not hanging them, what other accessories can I use say, if want 2 on each side (left and right over a sub)?

A: All four element are connected, with one input, they can't be separated. If you need two side, you would need one of the complete speaker on each side. We have multiple option for mounting these speakers, wall or ceiling, please refer to the web site for best mounting option. The sub that works well with these speakers is the FB-120B or W based on the color your are looking for.

Q: 4. As I am not familliar with these array speaker. are they set up to say use in a church the top speaker would get more power to reach the back of the curch the next one leass power to reach mid osf church an the low ones to have less power from Crown CDI 1000 at 70 volts to reach the front of the church. just asking?

A: This speaker have one input, audio is distributed across all element equally, the shape and the articulation of the speaker help disperse the audio vertically from 0 to 60 degrees, but will not give different power to each element. they are all equal. if you want to use a 70V amp, you will need the MT-200 to each one, it is a 200Watt 70V transformer. TOA have multichannel Amps as well, for example if you want to use 70V you can use the DA-250DH, it is a dual channel 250W per channel, it can cover two speakers.

Q: 5. How many additional L1 PRO8 speakers can I connect? Can i use an unmanaged switch to create a 4 unit PA?

A: The RJ45-style network connectors on the Bose L1 PRO8 Portable Line Array Speaker System with Bluetooth are designed to connect the L1 to the Bose ToneMatch mixers. Each ToneMatch can connect to two L1 towers (one left, one right). The L1 PRO8 also features a dedicated line output connection via XLR that could be used to daisy chain and feed signal to other speakers.

Q: 6. Can one Crown XLi 3500 amplifier carry a pair of toa hx-5w? i.e 8 enclosures

A: Good combination. The amp will have plenty of headroom to safely drive the TOA arrays.

Q: 7. Does this come with power cable?

A: Yes, the QSC KLA12 12" 2-Way Line Array Loudspeaker (Black) comes with a power cable.

Q: 8. we have a live band the like to play loud will these be able to handle it?

A: No!! They start distorting around 95dbc.

Q: 9. Can these be used in stereo or bridged to mono or would I need two sets?

A: The Toa Electronics HX-5B Variable Dispersion Line Array Speaker use a single SpeakON or M4 terminal input connection and will not produce a stereo signal with a single unit. A pair of HX-5B, one receiving the left channel and the other receiving the right channel, would be required for a true stereo image.

Q: 10. It is 110V, 220V or BiVolt ?

A: This uses 100-240 V AC power, that will work internationally. You may need an adapter for the wall outlet, depending on the region.

[1.4" / 35.6 mm] This is a great replacement speaker in my drum monitor. I used it to replace a blown speaker in my drum monitor for onstage monitoring. I needed to replace 2 of them and they work out great and can handle the power that I am pushing to them so my drummer can here his kick drum over the vocals.

[Waveguide] This is my second L1. I run them in stereo from the mixer. Vocal, upright bass, keyboard and drums. Clear and clean sound.

[Waveguide] I just installed two of these, along with suitable wall treatments, in a gymnasium that was converted into a church auditorium. They perform great. The variable beam width and asymmetrical vertical pattern put the sound where I needed it and kept it off the walls and ceiling. Their size doesn't make them look like speaker arrays - they almost disappear into the room.
I added the low frequency extensions to fill out the spectrum. They ARE NOT rock concert speakers.
When properly installed in a space, they are a perfect solution to difficult sound control situations.
I would install them again in the proper application!

So called experts who diss them don't know what they are doing.

[Bolt-on] I love this kit! The footprint is only as big as the bass unit, so no cumbersome stand-mounted speakers to fiddle with. I like that there are three inputs built in, so you can do more with this version than you could with the previous version without also buying an external mixer.

I use this for acoustic guitar and vocals, both of which are first run through a TC Helicon. I know it sounds great that way, but have not yet tested it without the Helicon. With my current kit, I definitely sound better than I really do.

For now, this is set up in my dining room, and I'm playing for an imaginary audience. But as soon as I'm up for it, I no longer have the excuse that I don't have the gear to do a proper gig. I have other excuses, but am working on those, too.

Down side? The box was mangled pretty badly by the time FedEx made the delivery three days late, but nothing inside was damaged. For $1,800, it would have been nice for Bose to include a cover for the bass unit along with the very nice carrying case that was included for the stick speaker units. Also, I love the bluetooth remote controls that mimic the controls on the back of the bass unit, but it would be nice if there was a master volume control included. As it is, you have to adjust each input separately.

[1.4" / 35.6 mm] Installed 8 of these speakers in a church of 500 w/ balcony. Absolutely phenomenal sound. The deep feature is fabulous. Great tonality and clarity, with warm lows. Plenty of overhead power. Very pleased with this purchase. Thanks B&H

[Aluminum] Used this product in a number of difficult acoustic situations. Very effective in highly reverberant spaces. Some bone head rocker sound people who don't get physics have no idea how these work so a scared of them 'because they don't have a horn'. Don't listen to those idiots - these speakers are great, and designed by one of the best speaker engineers that has ever lived!
