77mm Circular Polarizer Filter For Photography

The 77mm Circular Polarizer Filter for Photographyhelps to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface. The light from the sun naturally becomes partially polarized due to reflecting off electrons in air molecules, causing the light to scatter into what appears as haze. A polarizing filter arranges and filters this directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light, allowing for the absorption of much of this light. This results in a noticeable reduction of glare and reflections from non-metallic surfaces and an increase in the saturation of skies and foliage.
A circular polarizer only differs from a linear polarizer in that it contains a quarter wave plane in addition to the linear polarizing filter. The addition of this quarter wave plane is to circularly polarize the linearly polarized light for the use of auto focus and exposure functions. Due to how the light is broken down and filtered with a linear polarizer, auto focus and exposure accuracy become skewed during use. When the light becomes circularly polarized, it permits the use of these functions.
This filter is constructed from optical glass for clarity as well as color fidelity and features an aluminum-alloy filter ring that can be rotated in order to adjust the intensity of the polarization effect. To prevent internal ghosting and reflections, each glass surface includes eight layers of anti-reflection coating. These coatings also offer greater protection to the filter substrate and helps it to stay clean for longer than with uncoated filters.

Helps to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface.
Polarizing filters arrange, and filter, directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light, allowing for the absorption of much of the light.
Clears up haze in distant landscapes and provides more saturated, vivid colors.
Strongest effect when used at a 90° angle from the sun.
Circular polarizers are ideal for use with digital cameras and autofocus lenses where a linear polarizer will often disrupt auto exposure and focus features.
2x filter factor reduces exposure by 1 stop.
Multicoated to prevent internal ghosting and reflections.
Aluminum-alloy filter ring for durability while remaining lightweight.
Filter ring can be rotated to adjust the intensity of the polarization effect.
77mm front filter threads allow for use with other filters.
Top knurling to provide a more textured grip when mounting or removing it from a lens.
Constructed from optical glass for clarity and color fidelity.
Plastic filter case for storage and transport.
Related Questions and Answers
Q: 1. will it fit a sony 200-600mm lens
A: Yes, the Sony 200-600mm has a 95mm front filter thread, so this filter will fit.
Q: 2. For this 52mm filter--is the front thread diameter also 52mm? Thanks!
A: The front thread is 52mm.
Q: 3. Does this work with a Canon R5 24-105 lens (77mm) - and if so, can I screw it into the UV-Haze filer that I keep on this lens for protection?
A: Yes, the PolarPro 77mm QuartzLine Circular Polarizer Filter will work with a Canon 24-105mm lens; any 77mm filter will adapt to a Canon 24-105mm lens. We highly suggest using slim-profile filters to avoid vignetting issues.
Q: 4. Does this product fit with a lens hood?
A: A 77mm screw in lens hood or addtional filter will attach without problem. depending on lens though, attention needs to be paid to any potential vignetting that may occur with wide angle lenses. Also, some bayonet hoods may not slip over the outer ring of the filter.
Q: 5. Are there any pros and cons between this Zeiss CP and a B+W Kaesemann CP?
A: I second the last reviewer. I have purchased and used both. Despite having a brass ring, the B+W has stuck to my lens thread. I even have a 72mm C-Pol filter by B+W with out of round adjustment ring. The worst part is that the polarizing film even has specks of dust trapped on the underside and mildly lifted at a small part of the edge (which I wasnt expecting for a Kaesmann). And there is even a part where the polarizing film was not even timed to meet the metal ring, leaving a micro gap prone to light leakage. Very disappointing for a B+W filter, given the price point. Otherwise, the optical quality was great. I have had mostly good luck with B+W filters except for this 72mm C-Pol and another 6-point star filter. Probably a QC issues at Schneider. The Zeiss is something else. The quality and craftsmanship are in a different league. The first thing you will notice when you open the package is the quality of the packaging. The filter comes out dust-free, a strong indication of a high-end facility from where it is produced. Dont be fooled by the aluminum ring. It easily tops all B+W filters I have ever used in terms of ease of attachment and removal. The machining of the threading is so precise it prevents any sticking at all. I have had zero issues in this regard. Optically, it is definitely no worse than B+W. but I dont know if it is better. QC is top notch just like any Zeiss products. Dont be discouraged by the fact that the Zeiss filter is made in Japan. Japanese are equally proud of their craftsmanship as their German counterparts. The extra cost is definitely worth the quality. All my future filters will be Zeiss.
Q: 6. Does it make sense to (can you ) add the Natural Density on top of this filter?
A: You can stack the filters. the polarizer should be on top. Keep in mind that the polarzer alone is about 2stop ND in addition to the unique properties it has to darken Sky, highlight Cloudes and reducing glare and reflection off glass, water and metal surfaces.
Q: 7. Does this come with the same case / cover system that the McKinnon Variable ND filter comes with?
A: It does not. The PM Variable ND Signature II comes with its round unique protector (hard cover + rubberized cover), and the Quartzline CPL comes with a square hard case with magnetic closure.
Q: 8. Where are these manufactured ?
A: The ZEISS 82mm Carl ZEISS T* Circular Polarizer Filter is manufactured in Japan.
Q: 9. Does the rear ring ever bind or cross-thread?
A: PolarPro 77mm QuartzLine Circular Polarizer Filter is made of Brass and well built. It will not bend / cross thread under normal circumstances.
Q: 10. How scratch resistant is this? -- Im also considering the Hoya HD3 as it multi-coating claims to help with scratch resistance
A: The ZEISS 82mm Carl ZEISS T* Circular Polarizer Filter features a world class coating, that is very scratch resistant. The advantage to the Hoya HD3, is it's anti-static capability. If one is working in a location with constant sand flying around the HD3 would be a good choice.
