Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What kind of capsul comes with this mic? Its not shown in the In the Box tab in BH.

A: This version of the Audix SCX1 ships with a Hyper Cardioid capsule. A cardioid and omni directional capsule is also available, making this mix a great modular solution.

Q: 2. Is there a software for recording music that works best with this microphone set up?

A: You can use GarageBand if you own a Mac. For a Windows PC: Sony Sound Forge Audio Studio 10 - Audio Editing/Production Software (Box) B&H # SOSFS10099EQ

Q: 3. Does it require battery power or phantom power or it works without any power supply?

A: It requires phantom power.

Q: 4. Does the 50 microboom come with a clutch (to connect the boom to a mic-stand) ?

A: The Audix MicroBoom Carbon Fiber 50 Boom attaches to any microphone stand with the included MCBOOM mic stand adapter. This adapter allows for the total control over the angle, rotation and position of the carbon fiber boom.

Q: 5. We have had two M1250B's for four years. Purchased to record the choir. Recently, the Music Director wants to amplify the choir a bit during Praise and Worship songs. However, the M1250Bs pick up a bunch of drums which sit 12 feet from the left mic and the drums are actually more predominate than the choir. Request advice? gev at Kirkmont Church

A: Move the drum kit if possible. If these mics are not ceiling mounted - you might try a few of these panels: ClearSonic S5-2 - 66 x 48 x 1.5 Double Section SORBER Baffle (Light Grey) with Handle. a href= http://bhpho.to/1AeFdcw target= _blank http://bhpho.to/1AeFdcw/a

Q: 6. Does the Audix MB5050 have an off/on switch? The only way I have been able to make it a non open mic is to unplug at input.

A: There is currently no on/off switch available on the Microboom Rod.

Q: 7. Is this able to hold the SureSM7B Cardioid Dynamic Vocal Microphone, which weighs 1.69 lbs?

A: Yes, on just the vertical pole this will be able to hold an SM7B.

Q: 8. How tight an angle can the gooseneck hold. Many pics show about 45 degrees. Will it hold 90 degrees? 135?

A: You should be able to adjust the gooseneck to hold at any angle. The clutch assembly for the Audix MB5050 MicroBoom System 50" Gooseneck Condenser Microphone allows for total control over the angle, rotation and position of the carbon fiber rod.

Q: 9. its phantom power required? I would like to put ii on top my DSLR to get interior speeches or dialogs.

A: It needs a XLR connection (cable). I use it with a Zoom H6 and synchronize in post.

Q: 10. Would this mic work ok for streaming? I'd like to not have the mic on screen and be able to move my head a little. Also would it pick up a lot of the speaker audio? I don't want to use headphones if I can get away with it.

A: I can't imagine a problem with streaming. As for picking up your monitor audio, that's a bit tricky to answer without seeing your recording space. I'm guessing that some noise reduction to reduce your monitor audio bouncing back and having the monitors behind the mic should result in a clean sound without picking up the monitors... but this would be true for any mic that's not omnidirectional. We use this mic at about 3 feet from two people talking and it's awesome... we don't use the monitor. If money's not a limiting factor, this mic also has different heads that support different patterns..

[End Address] These Heavy-Duty stands help prevent our preteens from knocking the Microbooms over during church musical performances.

[End Address] This is a good stand with a solid, heavy base. I considered using a standard mic stand for my new Audix microphones but am glad I bought the stands to match. They look classy and withstood several knocks by my students!

[Mono] We are using these condenser microphones for a 20 member church choir. The product literature was very helpful for us in assembly and future modifation of our sound system. The sound technician and I also liked the on-line tutorials that Audix posted.

[Hypercardioid] These microphones are incredible. Very well priced especially when you buy the kit. I did lots of research and these were the best value of the highest quality. They shipped very quickly and came with everything I needed to plug and start using. Would recommend to any church or venue needing a high quality option without breaking the bank.

[Solid-State] Coming from using a Rode NTG2 as a dialog mic for short films, the Audix SCX1/HC is an amazing upgrade. Compared to the NTG2, it's night and day. This mic captures clear, almost noise-free dialog. Really all I can say is Wow! It is the real deal for professional quality voice recording. I can't imagine that I'd ever need to replace this with anything else. This is the first piece of video or audio hardware that's ever truly exceeded my high expectations!

[White] Compared to my Schoeps CMC-MK41, Audix sounds warmer (good for adding body to thin voice), signal is slightly stronger (less preamp needed = less noise), shorter (more ceiling room for boom work), 3 times cheaper, all good attributes.

[Mono] I have only used SCX1-HC on one job so far, but have been using it in testing procedures along with sound devices PRE MIX 6, so my experience with it is limited. As of now it is great sounding Microphone. It's off-axis pick up is not as limited as I expected. My 416 might sound a bit richer and so forth, but using it on interior interviews in poor acoustics I get a echo - that is why I bought the SCX1-HC and it has not been a disappointment. It is a crisp, rich sounding microphone that will cut through music and sfx. So far I have not experienced with any RF problems or any issues, but again I have only used on a limited basis.
I did do research before I made the purchase and sure - there are better microphones out there, for twice the price or 3-4 times the price. In those instances when the project calls for that I always hire a sound person anyway and let them worry about the sound. For simple projects where I want better sounding audio than just using LAV microphones this performs well.
I might also add AUDIX's customer service is great and it is US made which is a plus for support. As always BH has been great to work with and even got me the SCX1-HC quickly though the manufacture.
