Opticron 8x42 DBA VHD+ Binoculars | High-Performance Opticsbalance optical performance with rugged construction details to create versatile binoculars that are as at home in the stadium as they are in the woods or on the boat. They feature the proprietary VHD+ optical system that combines extra-low dispersion (ED) glass, phase-corrected prisms with Oasis prism coating, anti-reflection fully multi-coated optics, and a field-flattener lens system to produce bright, high-contrast images with neutral color fidelity and virtually zero distortion across the entire field of view. Employing the iconic combination of 8x magnification and 42mm objectives keeps the bulk down, so they are comfortable to carry in a pack or around the neck while offering an immersive field of view and competent low-light performance.

The binoculars are designed with an open-bridge dual-hinge configuration that helps to reduce weight without sacrificing strength, while offering a more secure grip by allowing your fingers to wrap around the optical tubes. To withstand the elements, the housing is nitrogen-filled and O-ring sealed for waterproof and fogproof performance in even the most extreme weather. Black rubber armoring provides protection from drops and impacts, as well as adding to their slip-resistant grip. For long-duration glassing sessions, the DBA VHD+ has a concealed tripod adapter mount to attach them to a stable support system.

[Roof] I bought these binoculars for a beginning birding class, and as a beginner birder, it's sufficient for what I need it to do. The focus wheel is smooth and the image is clear. As a petite person (5'3), the strap is comfortable and at a good length.

The best thing is the incredibly fast shipping; my instructors sent a note on Tuesday for what binoculars we'd need for our field trip on Saturday, and I got my binoculars in time. No complaints!

[Center] The Opticron 10x42 DBA VHD+ monocular is a bit larger and heavier---more expensive too---than other handheld scopes, but the view is really unparalleled in terms of field-of-view and sharp definition; and the device is a real pleasure to use. My only complaints are that, once the objective lenscap is on, the scope fits too tightly into the belt-looped case; the eyepiece cap has to be secured somehow; and the rotating, elevating eyepiece is a little too free in its motion. In terms of sharp optics, though, this monocular is a real champ. (Why B&H sends a free binocular harness out with this monocular, I could not tell you.)

[42 mm] I purchased this monocular primarily for stargazing. I have looked around the landscape too. The optics are just that, great. I can't see any limitations between my eyes and the atmosphere. The field is flat to the edges, judged by stars. There is slight brightness variation at the edge barely noticeable when looking at the light polluted sky.
The whole device feels small and light. It easily fits in a pocket. I can hold it in one hand no problem. The problem is to hold it with two hands when I want to minimize shaking. I wish they made a bigger model, like 12x60 or so.

Focusing mechanism is smooth. The eyepiece is comfortable. The smaller, eyepiece cap is rather loose, bound to be lost some day. The larger one is tighter and there is another one in the box with secure attachment. Included carry strap is weird.

[42 mm] After comparing for a long time, I bought this 10x from B&H, I satisfy with it, I can see small words 1.4 meters away, the whole field is very clear. All in all, good!

[42 mm] These replaced a pair that were stolen so I already knew the quality. They had been recommended by a birding shop when I lived in CO. The difference in clarity and detail is exciting.

[5.25 mm] I started bird watching and was using cheap binoculars from Amazon as they were a gift. Finally upgrade to these and I am so glad. I can see the birds so well, so many colors, and I can scan and track them so much easier as the binoculars are lighter

[7° (Actual)] I can't say enough good things about these binoculars. I spent a lot of time researching different options and I feel that I made the right choice.
They are exceptionally well made and the image is clear and sharp across the field of view.
I am particularly fond of the adjustable 3 click eye cup. It is the first pair of binoculars that I can easily use while wearing glasses.
I highly recommend them.

[5.25 mm] These binoculars are so great. I purchased them an affordable entry to birdwatching and am thrilled with the quality. They are sharp and clear and have also greatly impressed my husband who now wants a pair. Best of all, my son wants a pair so that he can get into birding, when previously, he was dubious. Thank you!
