Normal-length prime 50mm f/1.2 lens is designed for full-frame Canon EF-mount DSLRs, however can also be used with APS-C models where it will provide an 80mm equivalent focal length.

Fast f/1.2 maximum aperture offers a high degree of control over depth of field for working with selective focus and shallow depth of field techniques. Additionally, it also benefits working in low-light conditions with slower shutter speeds.

One aspherical element and one high refractive index element is featured in the optical design to control spherical aberrations for improved clarity and sharpness throughout the aperture range.

An Ultra Multi-Coating has been applied to individual elements to minimize ghosting and flare for increased contrast and color neutrality when working in strong lighting conditions.

Manual focus design permits working with subjects as close as 1.5' away.

Nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a smooth and pleasing bokeh quality.

Aluminum-alloy housing is both durable and lightweight.

Rear contacts afford full camera-based control over exposure settings and also relay Exif data between the lens and camera body.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is this lens compatible with the canon r6?

A: The Rokinon SP 50mm f/1.2 Lens for Canon EF would require an adapter to work on the Canon EOS R6 such as the Canon Mount Adapter EF-EOS R, BH # CAMAEFRF. https://bhpho.to/300yC91

Q: 2. Does this lens have auto focus

A: No, this is a manual focus lens.

Q: 3. Can you see the aperture setting on the rear lcd screen of the camera?

A: Since this does not have a manual aperture ring and the aperture is controlled by the camera, yes, the aperture number will be visible on the rear LCD screen, the top LCD screen and recorded in the image's metadata.

Q: 4. How long is the focus throw on the manual focus ring (in degrees)?

A: The throw is approximately 180.

Q: 5. Does anyone know of a UV filter that fits this lens? I have ordered two, both with incorrect threads.

A: The Rokinon SP 50mm f/1.2 Lens for Canon EF has 86mm filter threads. Therefore, the Chiaro Pro 86mm 99-UVBTS Brass UV Filter is an excellent compatible filter. Here is the link: https://bhpho.to/3xGa6fX.

Q: 6. Is this lens sharp at F/1.2 for astrophotography?

A: I would guess, yes. It's extremely sharp even at f1.2 for portraits, so, i assume it would be great for astro. However, the field of view would be my biggest concern for astro. Happy shooting.

Q: 7. will this came in Sony E mount? or what adapter is fully recomended for this lens?

A: Not in Sony E. As this is a manual-focus lens, you can use an inexpensive EF-E adapter.

Q: 8. Is this full compatible with my older EOS 630 camera?

A: Canon EOS 630 35mm Camera Body takes EF mount lenses so Rokinon SP 85mm f/1.2 Lens for Canon EF BH #RO8512CAE will be compatible.

Q: 9. What are the rear electronic contacts for?

A: The contacts allow electronic communication between the camera and the lens. While this is a manual focus lens only, the lens can do a focus confirmation via a green dot in the viewfinder and an audible beep. Perhaps more important is that you can control the aperture of the lens by the camera. Finally, the lens metadata such as aperture, focus distance, millimeter and manufacturer can be recorded to the image file to help in your processing.

Q: 10. Will this lens work the electronics of a metabones or sigma adapter for the sony e mount?

A: No, the Rokinon SP 35mm f/1.2 Lens for Canon EF will not work with the electronics for a Sony adapter.

[86 mm (Front)] Except for the lack of weather sealing—not even a gasket on the mount—the build quality feels nearly unmatched. Although the lens is manual focus only, it does—unlike the earlier Samyang/Rokinon lenses—electronically communicate with the camera body. Thereby, the camera adjusts aperture, confirms focus, and records all the customary information, the EXIF data, to image files. The focus throw, long and smooth, is gratifying, making the manual focusing a fulfilling task. And at f/1.2, the image quality, among the best, period, is beyond my previous dreams to afford. Despite the sharpness, the images, not looking technical, as it were, look artistic—pleasing colors and dreamy bokeh. This lens can lend portraits the look that people instantly attribute to a professional. My only disappointment with the lens is that, like most photography lenses, rather than cine lenses, it does have significant focus breathing, limiting its use in filmmaking.

[3.495 lb] This is all about the rendering. If you're looking for a lens for portrait photography or want to produce images with extreme shallow depth of field, this is worthy of strong consideration. The Boca is rendered beautifully with out of focus areas rented beautifully smooth. The contrast between the extremely sharp areas and the blurred backgrounds is breathtaking. The lens is extremely Sharp, But if you're looking to just shoot resolution charts, you can find slightly sharper lenses. I personally care more about how well the lens renders my subject, and this lens continues to impress me.

This lens is not for faint of heart, it's heavy and is a manual focusing lens. Focusing at F1.2 is extremely critical when shooting 10 ft or closer. The viewfinder focusing confirmation is not up to the task for such critical manual focusing. It's best to use the magnified view on the LCD screen for accurate focus. Accurate focus can best be achieved on a tripod useing the LCD screenI n magnification mode. The
Hoodman HoodLoupe also works great for handheld shooting. I have mine attached with two rubber bands. This lens is best suited for slow deliberate photography rather than trying to work with moving subjects.

[Manual Focus] The Rokinon SP 1.2 series is honestly the most underrated glass I have used. This lens and the others in the series are some of the best full frame glass I have used. I can see why Samyang is now adapting them for the Meinster series. Though they should have picked a different name. I have used Zeiss, Sigma, and Canon L lenses of the same focal lengths. When it comes to sharpness and character these do a great job balancing it all.

[Full-Frame] The lens is great. It’s very sharp and has amazing background blur. The lens is pretty heavy and big but for what you’re getting it makes sense. I’m excited to taking some awesome portraits with this!

[3.495 lb] As previous owner of two Canon FD 85mm 1.2 lenses, and switching to Sony mirrorless, I wanted a low cost alternate and from it in the Rokinon 85mm 1.2 lens. Focusing a was smooth as silk and combined with magnification view provided by the a7III, produced outstanding images with that magical low depth of field. One exception, this lens is much sharper than the Canon FD counterpart. Summary, no regrets.

[0.17x] I recently purchased my new Rokinon SP 85mm F1.2 to go with my Canon 7D Mark 2 from B & H. This was my first purchase from B & H and it went very smoothly, without a problem. The lens arrived in perfect condition. It has performed as expected, very nice! The manual focus has not been an issue and works very well. It's not a wildlife lens but that's not why I bought it. Thus far, I am extremely satisfied with the process and product.

[0.17x] Solid build quality and sharp details are just about a portion of what I could say. I love it!
Don’t buy it if you are after a light and compact 50mm. This is a huge beast.

[Full-Frame] I borrowed canon's 85mm F1.2L ii lens for a while and hoped to buy one. I ended up getting this one instead, and it completely destroys canon's. Don't let the manual focus scare you if you're used to auto focus. The very long throw, incredibly smooth ring, and focus confirmation all make manually focusing easy.

[f/16] I purchased this Lens so that I could use it for wide field Nebula shots. It has delivered in all aspects. I will be using it with a Monochrome camera next.
