Add 48TB of USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 storage to your compatible Windows or Mac system with the OWC Mercury Elite Pro Quad 48TB USB-C RAID Arrayfrom OWC / Other World Computing. This array is preconfigured as RAID 5 via included SoftRAID software. 48TB also provides you with plenty of space to store files such as music, photos, movies, and documents. This array provides transfer speeds up to 947 MB/s.

Within the array are four SATA III drive bays that can each house a single 3.5 or 2.5" drive using the included drive brackets. Each drive bay has a 12TB 7200 rpm SATA III 3.5" hard drive. The array is software-configured as RAID 5, which provides a good balance of performance and redundancy. It can be configured as RAID 0, 1, 0+1, 4, and 5, each of which provides performance, data redundancy, or both.

This volume will be recognized on systems running macOS 10.6 and later as well as Windows 7 and later. Connectivity to your host system is achieved using an integrated 10 Gb/s USB-C 3.2 Gen 2, and both USB-C to USB-C and USB-C to USB-A cables are included to help ensure compatibility with modern and legacy systems. To help ensure a smooth operating environment, the array is built using heat-dissipating aluminum, uses a cooling fan, and its included 100-240 VAC power supply runs at 50/60 Hz to help ensure worldwide compatibility. Also included is a power cable and two front panel keys.

A: With out SoftRaid, each drive in the OWC Mercury Elite Pro Quad 4-Bay USB 3.2 Gen 2 RAID Enclosure will appear on its own.

A: You will need to backup the information to an external drive and use any larger capacity SATA III 3.5" Drives. You would use a checksum software which is great to have for large and critical files. This can check every bit of the transfer and provide verification. A checksum software to look into Hedge. One can technically transfer files/folders from the source to the new destination, but it is a nice safety measure to get verification at the end of the transfer. After backing up, install the new drives and build the RAID you want and transfer the data to the new drives. A: There aren't any issues that I'm aware of, it should work well.

Q: 10. Can I connect this drive to a new iMac? The USB 3ports on this drive look different than the USB 3 ports on the new iMac.

A: The included cable has the proper connections to plug it into the USB 3.0 ports on the iMac.

[18.535 lb] Great, solid and heavy build. Have to be careful if moving things around to not break the little USB-C off. Almost missed the thin plastic covers in front of the drive slots. Easy to get to the fan, it's got plenty of space for a thick one, 3 pin connector and it's basically never going fast with helium drives that aren't being run at max speeds. Great to have an option that doesn't have hardware raid, you get more solid construction in its place. ZFS setup with caching of metadata on an SSD for fast directory listings and file size counts. Can't see it in the photos, 2.5 inch drives are mounted through the bottom and there's a cross beam in the middle of the brackets. S.M.A.R.T. data shows up fine. 5

[Silver] This is my second OWC drive and like my original, this is a high quality drive that is built like a tank and works flawlessly. I am not a high tech guy but I don't think they make them any better than this. This is a plug-N-play with simple directions that allow you to have it up and running in minutes. You can use it as a mirrored drive or load up the two drives independent of one another. it is virtually silent and turns itself on and off. Great product! 5
