Ultra wide-angle 9mm f/2.8 prime is designed for APS-C-format Canon EF-M-mount mirrorless cameras and provides a 14.4mm equivalent focal length.

Bright f/2.8 maximum aperture is well-suited to working in low and difficult lighting conditions.

Rectilinear design renders subjects with minimal distortion in order to suit landscape and architectural applications.

Three extra-low dispersion elements reduce chromatic aberrations and color fringing for increased clarity and color neutrality. Two aspherical elements are also featured to limit spherical aberrations for improved sharpness.

A Frog Eye Coating has been applied to repel both dust and moisture for added protection when working in inclement conditions.

Manual focus design offers a minimum focusing distance of 4.7".

Built-in petal-shaped lens hood shields the lens from stray light to reduce flare and ghosting and also protects the front elements from accidental impacts.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will there be vignetting with 49-46mm step down ring and filter? Is there space for 58mm step up ring? Because 49mm is not used anywhere in MFT and I would not want to buy another set of ND and others filters.

A: I hate buying extra filters too. However, we will have to say that 49mm is the only one listed as working with this lens.

Q: 2. Is this lens good for astro-photography?

A: Yes, the Venus Optics Laowa 9mm f/2.8 Zero-D Lens for Sony E is both a very good and a very popular lens for astrophotography usage needs.

Q: 3. Do this lens fit on my eos 6D?

A: No this lens is built for the EF-M mount, you would need one that is built for the EF mount since you are using it on a Canon 6D which is a Full Frame sensor.

Q: 4. How does this lens compare to the LAOWA 7.5mm version? Is the loss of one stop of light work the "Zero-D" or does it have similar mimimal, yet still visible distortion of the 7.5mm.

A: The 7.5mm produces minimal distortion and this 9mm produces virtually none.

Q: 5. Does this works on my eos 6D?

A: It does not. This is for EF-M cameras, which is a different system. It will not work with the 6D's EF Mount.

Q: 6. Will this vignette if paired with a Metabones speedbooster on the bmpcc 4k?

A: This is a Canon EF-M mount lens, it is not an EF lens. There is no adapter we are aware of that allows you to use EF-M lenses on the Pocket Cinema Camera 4K with an MFT mount. However, Venus offers this same lens for MFT cameras, it is B&H # VE928MFT. You can connect the link below directly to the Pocket Cinema Camera 4K. https://bhpho.to/2Xi9JmU

Q: 7. Will MFT plus MFT-SonyE adapter gives an 18mm or 13.5mm equivalent lens coverage?

A: According to our data, the Sony E mount version of the Laowa 9mm f/2.8 Zero-D Lens, would have a 13.5mm equivalent focal length on an APSC sensor camera. An adapter may work for the MFT lens to work on a Sony E-mount APSC camera, but it may also vignette as the MFT version is intended for MFT sensors.

Q: 8. Does this lens have fisheye distortion or is it corrected?

A: Read the overview, it states: «As a Zero-D lens, this 9mm f/2.8's optical design is specifically meant to limit distortion for clear and accurate portrayals of landscapes and architectural subjects.»

Q: 9. Is lens hood removable?

A: Yes, the lens hood is removable.

Q: 10. The pictures above are showing this lens pared with Sigma FT, that is full frame sensor does this lens cover the entire sensor? Soft vignetting is not a issue for me but hard it is! Using it on cine rig.

A: The Venus Optics Laowa 9mm f/2.8 Zero-D Lens for Leica L is designed for APS-C size sensors, not full frame.

[Manual Focus] I got this at below market value and it is absolutely worth it. it makes Grand Central look even bigger than it already is!

[49 mm (Front)] As a hobbyist and amateur photographer, I really loved this. I took it on a big 20-mile hike, and it's the best because of its light weight. Every ounce really makes a difference! It's my only lens that is light enough that it doesn't tip the body on my XT4 over. It's ultra wide frame makes it great for landscapes and astrophotography. I look forward to getting more creative with my framing too. No regrets here!

[APS-C] This lens is a gem for real estate shots, it gives me great results and zero distortion is wonderful.

[APS-C] I did a lot of research when I was looking for an ultra wide. It was down between this and the fuji 10-24. The first time out with this lens and I realized I made the right call. It's small, uses the same 49mm filters of my 16mm and the end results are sharp with a 'feel' to the images.

[f/2.8] Purchased this lens in 2018 so I feel qualified to write a review. This lens is so fun. It's ridiculously small, and ridiculously sharp. I've used this lens extensively for personal work as well as professional work. It renders buildings beautifully dramatized due to its extreme field of view. There truly is no barrel distortion, even at such a wide angle. I am passionate about architecture and it's my go-to lens anytime I want great photos of a space. The one thing I wish different were the vignetting when shooting wide open. When stopped down the vignetting disappears. It's extremely sharp the entire aperture range. Build quality is pretty solid. I am not careful with my gear and it has taken quite a few bumps. The lens cap and hood are very high quality.

[f/2.8] This is my first ultra-wide angle lens, and in the month since I bought it I've really been enjoying it!
With how wide it is, virtually no distortion, and the close focusing distance, makes it so you pretty much have to reprogram your brain when framing shots. Numerous times I would get ready to take a shot, only to realize I had to get A LOT closer to whatever my subject was.
The small form factor is also a huge plus, and the main reason I was drawn to it.
Anything outside of close focusing distances, you can leave the lens set to infinity and even wide open everything will be in perfect focus.

There are a few cons though:
My copy is a little stiff when attaching and reattaching it to the camera body. I'm not sure if its a universal issue, but its worth noting.
The vignetting is a known fault, but I've come to accept it as just a compromise Venus Optics had to make. Its not too difficult to adjust for when processing images.
There is also the problem with filters. While its marketed that the Laowa 9mm can accept lens filters, there is a caveat that comes with it. With such a wide focal length, screwing on filters will introduce heavy vignetting in the far corners of your image. You might be able to get around this by using a step-up ring and substantially larger filters, but I have yet to test this.

Regardless of its faults, I would highly recommend having this lens on hand. Its small, sharp, handy, and crazy wide.

[49 mm (Front)] As the headline says, I'm loving the super wide angles this lens gives me. It's a bit finicky to use on my Canon M6, but once I set the menu options properly I was off and running. In fact, with the amazing DOF at f/11 and f/16, I may just turn off focus peeking. The lens could be a bit sharper--I would give it 4.5 if I could, but am happy enough to round it up to 5 stars.
